Chapter 19
Parts with his Memories
He quickly rushed back making his own way through the large crowd that surrounded the accident. "Charmaine," he yelled out as he rushed his way toward the lifeless body. "Someone call the ambulance."
With all the commotion it would be expected that Julian would be in a panic. The thing that was least expected was Raymond, he was hidden in the crowd as a rush of memories came back to him as the accident replayed a couple of times in his head. He saw Charmaine mouth the names Julian several times before she went unconscious.
When the ambulance came, the paramedics brought Charmaine up onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. Julian followed along holding onto Charmaine's hand.
How obvious could it get? The two cared for each other yet were unable to tell each other their true feelings. When they arrived at the hospital reporters were already there, and so was Mr. Lam. Nurses and doctors advised the reporters to stay out of the hospital so that they don't bother the patients but they insisted on coming in to take pictures.
Just then Raymond came walking in the hospital. "Is Charmaine okay?"
Julian shook her head, "She's in the operation room right now, and she lost a lot of blood."
"Where did you go Raymond?" his father questioned him.
Ray didn't respond. He looked at the doors of the operation room and muttered under his breath, "Charmaine, you will be okay, I believe in you."
The three of them sat there in the quiet wing upstairs watching the time go by and waiting for light of the operation room to turn off.
Hours had passed and finally the light went off, the doors opened, and the doctor came out.
"Doctor is she okay?" Julian questioned.
"Are you the patient's family?" the doctor asked in return.
Mr. Lam got up and stated, "I'm her father."
"You're daughter injured the back of her head, this may have caused her to be put in a comma, memory loss, loosing the ability to see, and many other things. She does not have any internal bleeding, and looking at her current condition, it doesn't seem like she is in comma. Other than that, I can't say what side affects she has due to this accident; we will have to wait until she wakes up to find out."
"Thank-you doctor," the three of them said as the doctor and nurses walked away pushing Charmaine into a regular patient's room.
Mr. Lam decided to go back to office hoping that the reporters were no longer there after what had happened. Julian decided to get something to eat for him and Raymond, leaving Raymond alone with Charmaine. He was sitting next to her and slipped an envelope under her pillow. He was holding on to her hand placing it against his heart as he whispered, "Charmaine, I will always love you, but you're heart doesn't belong to me. I only wish the best for you, and i know that you have found a good man. He will be by your side to support you in anyway he can. I would too, but I think it would be best if I leave now." He kissed her hand and continued, "I love you, and I always do." He gave her a peck on the forehead and exited the room.
As he did Charmaine's eyes began to flutter and a tear dropped slid of the side of her cheek.
Outside the room Raymond waited for Julian to come back.
"Hey Ray, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be inside with Charmaine?" Julian asked as he approached Ray.
"Hey Jules, I have something to talk to you about."
Julian nodded as they headed outside to the park.
"Julian, I want you to take good care of Charmaine. She's a wonderful person, and you're a lucky man to have won her heart."
Julian looked at Raymond funnily, "What are you talking about Ray?"
"I remember."
"Remember? You remember what had happened before?!?!" Julian exclaimed.
Ray nodded. "I'm going to go somewhere, somewhere far away to do the things I want to do."
"What about Charmaine? I mean you two were tog-..."
Before Julian could finish his sentence Ray cut him off.
"You're right, we were, but even if she's physically with me her heart was never mine to keep. She's given it to you, and never took it back. It's for you to hold, and for you to take care of now. You better not hurt her," Raymond finished off with a playful punch. "I'll see you Julian we shall meet again someday!" he shouted as he began to walk away.
"Where are you going to go man?" Julian asked.
"You'll know soon!"
They waved their good-byes as the sunset.
Julian walked back inside to see Charmaine and saw that her hands began to move just as he entered the door.
"Doctor! Doctor!" he called, "she's awake, she's awake."
The doctors went into the room too check on Charmaine's condition. The doors were closed but it could be heard out in the wing that there was some type of hassling going on inside.
Suddenly silence began to brew and as the doctor stepped out he shook his head.______________________________________________
