Chapter 10
..."let me go."
After we had our fun, we cleaned up our mess and went over the couch for a seat. I leaned against Kevin's chest and he wrapped his arm around me as we watched TV.
"Buzz!" the dryer rang.
"Your clothes are dry; let me go get them for you." Getting up, I quickly went downstairs, but when I came up I noticed that he was on the phone.
"Okay, okay. I got to go, I'll give you a call later on tonight," he finished off by blowing a kiss into the phone as he noticed me approaching him.
"Here," I said as I handed him, his clothes.
"Thanks," he said as he took them and went to the bathroom and changed.
When he got back upstairs he said, "I got to go. I'll give you call tomorrow okay? We'll go grab some breakfast together?"
I walked over to the door and opened it for him.
"Bye," he said as he gave me a peck on the cheek and walked out the door.
"Why are you so stupid Charmaine?" I said aloud after closing the door. Tomorrow was his birthday, but I felt a little frustrated that he left in such a hurry. I knew that he was on the phone with Gigi, and he's rushing over there to see her.
The next morning I woke up with bangs under my eyes. I couldn't sleep well the night before. Then my phone rang, "Ring! Ring!"
"Hello," I greeted with my half awake voice.
"Rise and shine sleeping beauty," the person on the other side of the phone said.
It was Kevin. Looking at the time I whined, "It's only seven in the morning."
"I know, but it's my birthday. How about we go out for breakfast?"
"Erm... how about not breakfast, but lunch five hours later."
"I can't, Gigi planned this whole birthday schedule for me for the entire day. Sorry Charmaine."
I could've just guessed. It was Gigi that he had to be with today. "Okay then, but you're coming to pick me up."
"Good girl. I'll be there in half an hour. See you then," he said as he hung up.
I laid there for a while. I wasn't sure myself what I was doing. All I knew is that what I was doing was very stupid. I quickly got out of bed and got ready knowing that Kevin would be here soon.
Walking outside onto the porch, I noticed that the day looked really cloudy as though it was going to rain again like yesterday. Not too long after Kevin arrived.
I walked over to him as he got out of the car. "Happy Birthday," I said as I gave him a hug.
"That's it? Only a hug?" he said sarcastically.
So when I let him go, I gave him a peck on the cheek. "There, that's your present." I really didn't have a present for him, nor did I plan on spending his birthday with him. Thus, I decided that I would just get him a cake later on today before he leaves.
"Someone's being cheap," he chuckled as he opened to door for me to get in.
"So where are we going?" I pondered.
"It's a surprise."
We drove for a long while, and the roads we were on took us too areas that seemed like we were at a country side. When we got arrived the restaurant was a small little hut, but it was located on the beach side. The view was beautiful. I walked out of the car, took off my shoes and walked on the sand. The sun was beating down on us making the top layer of the cool sand warm.
"So do you like it?" he whispered into my ear.
I nodded, "It's beautiful."
The two of us walked inside. Certainly the restaurant wasn't the nicest, but where it was located was.
After eating we walked back out to the beach and sat there in the sand looking out to the horizon. We listened to the waves of water, and the seagulls calling. It all seemed a little too perfect.
"Ring!" It was Kevin's cell phone. He got a text message. Leaning on him I was able to take a glimpse of the message. It was from Gigi, "Honey, wake up."
"Charmaine, we better get going," he said as he put away his cell phone.
Getting up and following him back to the car I didn't say a word.
As he drove me back home I realized that he was a complete player. He told Gigi to give him a wake up call to let him know when he should bring me home. He has Gigi, so he shouldn't have me at the same time. I on the other hand am the worst friend there can ever be. Going out with my best friend' boyfriend behind her back. I have to say something. This can't go on. It's just going to hurt me more if I let this go on. For myself I must stop this.
As I was in my deep thoughts, Kevin had already stopped his car in front of my house. "Charmaine, you're home," he repeated after saying it for the third time.
"Kevin," I finally said. "We can't do this anymore."
"What are you talking about?"
"I mean us. There can't be an 'us'. You have Gigi, and she really likes you. I just can't be with you."
He listened in silence.
"At first I thought it was okay to do this, but it's not. Every time I see you talking to Gigi, it really hurts. Not because you have someone else, but because I'm betraying my best friend."
"Are you mad at me because I didn't wait for you like I promised?" he spoke up. "I wanted to wait for you but it's just that you had to wait too long."
I couldn't bear looking at his face anymore. I took my seat belt off and said as I opened the door, "It's over."
He got out of the car and ran over to me, "Charmaine," he yelled grabbing on my wrist.
"Let me go," I cried. "Please, just let me go. Or I'll fall for you all over again. I can't keep doing this."
"No I can let you go. I need you." He pulled on my wrist tightly not wanting to let go, as I pulled in the opposite direction trying to push his hand off with my other hand.
Jogging nearby, Raymond noticed Kevin and me in the distance. Walking closer he yelled, "What do you think you're doing?"
Kevin let me go as Raymond ran up in front of me. "This is none of your business," Kevin said.
Raymond turned his head around a little and asked me, "Are you okay?"
I nodded.
"Leave her alone, she doesn't want to be with you," Raymond said to Kevin.
"Charmaine, how could you do this to me? Especially today," Kevin said trying to get near me.
Coming out from behind of Raymond I said, "Please. Do me this favour, and just let me go." I turned around and headed for my backyard.

Hey you guys. Thanks for the comments. I know I haven't updated in a while and that the chapter is short, but I've been busy.
Helen, I know the relationship seems draggy, but there is a lot of stuff in between that isn't really known yet at this point in the story since it's first person narration. You'll see, lol there's a reason as to why I had to make it a little draggy. I needed some evidence ;).
