Chapter 11
Friends
"Charmaine," Kevin screamed, "Why are you doing this to me out of all days?"
I knew I picked the wrong day to do what I did, but this had to happen sooner or later.
I heard footsteps following behind me at a quick pace until, "Stop following her," Raymond yelled. "She's been hurt enough by you already, so it's time for you to stop now."
The footsteps retreated. As I walked away I heard Kevin's car start up and drive away, while hearing Raymond's footsteps following behind me.
I sat down on the wooden bench I had in my backyard, Raymond sat down beside me. I couldn't hold it in anymore; tears came pouring out of my eyes. Raymond patted me on the back, "Its okay Charmaine," he said gently. "Everything is going to be okay now."
I rested my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes as I started to calm down. I was tired and confused. I regretted what I did to Kevin a little, missing his presence, but then again, I knew that I did the right thing.
Raymond just sat there with his arm still around my shoulder; he didn't say a word because he knew that I needed some quiet time.
I had realized that I had fallen asleep in Raymond's arms when I opened my eyes. He was starring at the plants in the backyard when I turned my head to look at him.
Noticing my head turned he quickly turned around to look at me, "How are you feeling?" he asked in a gentle whisper tone.
"A lot better," I responded as I sat up straight.
Raymond stretched his arms after removing it from my shoulders.
"Sorry about your arm," I apologized.
"No worries," he chuckled. "I guess I better get going now, it's getting late."
As he got up and walked towards the door I said, "Thank-you Raymond."
He turned back around and looked at me a little confused, "For what?"
I smiled at his confused look, "For being there for me silly."
"Don't mention it. Like I said, you're not alone. I'm here to guide you."
I nodded at his response.
"Go was up, you don't want your parents to see you the way you are right now."
I watched him walk out and thought that I was really grateful to have a friend like him.
The next day I got up really early. I had a hard time falling asleep the night before. As I was getting ready to go out for a jog, I noticed Kevin's car parked outside. Seeing that he was outside, I quickly closed the door, but it was too late, he had already seen me.
"Charmaine, open up," he yelled ash e banged on the door. "I need to talk to you."
"Leave me alone. There is nothing left for us to say," I cried.
"Please Charmaine, please open up."
I opened the door slightly, "What is it you want to talk about?"
"Charmaine I'm sorry for what I did. I didn't realize how much you suffered because of this. Can we still be friends?" he asked.
Friends? I wasn't sure if we could still be friends after all that has happened. Then again, he was still my best friend’s boyfriend. "Friends," I spoke up as I stuck my hand out for a shake.
He smiled at me as he shook my hand.
