Chapter 34
Missing him...
"Charmaine!" the person called out. I looked over and saw Tavia and Bosco screaming out my name. Tavia has always been there for me at every premier, she was mad at me before for not confessing to Raymond but she quickly got over it.
I wanted to walk over to Tavia to say hi but someone stepped in front of me.
"Wait Ms. Sheh, we must clear the way for you first," my bodyguard said.
I nodded in agreement. I waited in front of the audience as they cleared a path to Tavia and Bosco.
"Okay Ms. Sheh, it's safe to walk down now."
"Thanks Frankie."
"Charmaine," Tavia called out with opened arms.
I gave her a hug.
"May I get your autograph," Bosco joked.
I hit him in the arm playfully, "Sure you can, that will be a thousand dollars please," I finished by sticking out my hand.
He slapped my hand and said, "And here I thought we were friends."
We all laughed for a bit until Tavia spoke up in a serious tone. "Charmaine I looked through the first few chapters of our novel. It's very well written."
"Thanks Tav," I said as I looked down towards my feet. This novel that I wrote was most definitely more emotional that the previous one I wrote based on my boring high school life. When I wrote it, I myself cried; the main reason being that I really miss him.
Tavia knew what was going through my head and came up to me to give me a hug, "You really miss him don't you," she whispered into my ear.
I nodded.
The crowd started to get restless and I had to go back up onto the stage and autograph novels like a robot once again. I told Tavia and Bosco to leave first and that we would get together for dinner tonight when I was done here.
Thought it felt like a long time, the hour was finally over. I got into the car and got ready to leave the shopping centre I was at. As the car started up my body guard came to sit beside me in the back, he then turned to me and said, "Ms. Sheh, I apologize for the short notice, but I will not be able to attend your function with you tomorrow, nor will I be attending any more functions with you."
With my brain still digesting this sudden news I asked, "Is there something wrong Frankie? Are you not getting paid enough?"
Frankie has been my body guard since I started; our relationship was rather close, not in the sense of a love relationship, more of a brother-sister relationship. He would look out for me when I was in danger, not just because it was his job, but it was also because he cared. I would most definitely miss him if he were to leave.
He smiled at me and patted me on the shoulder, "Don't worry Ms. Sheh there is nothing wrong. My wife and I just decided that our son would be able to get a better education in the States or in Canada, so we decided to move there."
"So soon though?"
He chuckled and scratched the back of his head, "It's actually not that soon. We've been thinking about it for a while now, and my boss found a recent opening position over there he offered it to me."
"What about me? Where am I going to find another body guard in such short notice?"
"You don't need to worry about that. My boss organized everything; your new body guard will be here tomorrow."
"Well Frankie, I wish you and your family the best in the future, and do keep in touch," I said as he got out of the car.
"I'll try to keep in touch Ms. Sheh," he said as he waved good-bye. "Take care."
That evening Tavia came over for dinner.
"So Frankie said he's leaving Charm?" Tavia asked as she was washing the vegetables.
"Yeah, it was very sudden. Well the guy's got to do what he has to do for the best of his family," I responded.
"I guess, but what about tomorrow? Don't you have some function to go to? You aren't going without a body guard are you?"
"Frankie said his boss made arrangements, so I do have a body guard, just don't know who it is yet."
"Good, because people these days, you might not be that popular Charm, but you even see it for yourself on the news, you never know what they can do. Fans could run up to the stage and give you a big smooch, or a random person on the street can come up to you and slap you on the face."
"Tavia, stop over exaggerating. What is the likely hood of that happening to me? I'm nothing but a mere novelist, a small fresh novelist, which was not that famous or well known."
"You never know Charm," Tavia said as she turned to me. She took the carrot that she was washing and used it as a pointer waving it up and down while she said it a funny tone, "It's better to be safe then sorry."
I laughed at her silly imitation of a mom, "Sorry for what? For catching you playing with your food?"
The two of us had our fun for that evening as we talked and talked for hours, it kind of reminded me of the time when Raymond and I were fooling around while we washed the dishes. It was a long time ago, but to me it seems like it was just yesterday. I really do miss him.
