Chapter 8
The Wake-up Call
Sticking an extra pillow under my head I decided to go to bed. I wasn't feeling well so I didn't go with Tavia to Raymond's house. I didn't have an appetite to eat dinner, and I wasn't in the mood to do anything.
Thinking about what Tavia and Raymond had said to me, I knew they were right. What I was doing was completely wrong. I really didn't want to, and when I try to tell Kevin, the words never seem to make it out of my mouth. It's Kevin's birthday next week, I'm not sure what to get him, and I don't even know if I'll be able to see him.
Just then my phone rang, it was Gigi. I picked it up, "Hey Gigi."
"Charmaine, are you busy?" she asked as though nothing was wrong between us.
Yes I was mad at her, but what can I do, "No I'm not busy. Is something wrong?"
"No it's nothing, I was just wondering how you were doing with that boyfriend of yours. He looks familiar, but I just can't figure out who he was."
I chuckled falsely, "He isn't my boyfriend. He was just joking with you guys. He's just some friend of my cousin's. I don't think you know him he's from out of town."
"Are you sure he was joking around, you guys seemed awfully close to each other," she said nosily. "And what was up with his wardrobe? It wasn't even sunny and he was in his shades."
"Not too sure, guess it's the new style," I made up. I don't know if I can trust Gigi anymore, and it was none of her business to know that the person was Raymond. Yet when I talk to her, I feel guilty knowing that I'm going out with Kevin behind her back.
"Well I got to go," she said. "Kevin and I are going out for dinner. So I guess I'll talk to you later. Bye Charmaine."
"Bye." We hung up. I pulled my blanket over my head thinking that I was the stupidest person who has ever lived going out with my best friend's boyfriend. "Ahh!" I yelled in frustration. I turned on some music and I tucked myself into bed not wanting to think of anything.
I woke up late the next morning. It was almost noon, I decided to go get changed and go for a walk. Looking at my phone I noticed that Kevin had sent me a text message, "Up yet sleepy head. I miss you."
I didn't feel like responding. As I walked out of the house I walked over the park for a jog. Looking around I noticed a familiar figure jogging in front of me. Picking up my pace I caught up to the person, "What might have brought Mr. Big Shot, Raymond Lam to this small little park to jog this morning?"
Startled by my presence, "Someone as fit as me jogs every morning, and besides, the smaller the park the better," Raymond joked, "Less chances of bumping into reporters."
We both laughed.
"Sure, that's only what you think."
After my comment came a long silence.
Clearing his throat Raymond spoke up, "I heard from Tavia yesterday that you weren't feeling well. Are you feeling better today?"
Knowing that he would be disappointed in me, I didn't want to tell him what had happened between Kevin and I. "I was just feeling like I was starting to get a little fever, but I'm okay right now or I wouldn't be here jogging would I?"
"Did you eat lunch yet?" he asked.
I shook my head, "No, to tell you the truth, I just woke up not too long ago."
"You're a lazy one aren't you? Sleeping in," he teased.
"Hey I'm not that lazy. I am jogging and getting my exercise," I defended.
"Would you like to join me for lunch then? My treat."
"I don't think we'll have a good time having lunch out at this time," I responded after looking at my watch. "There might be a lot of reporters. How about we go eat lunch at my place, and you can treat me to dinner instead tonight."
"Hey I'm not made of money you know," he said. "But seeing as how it's you, I'll take your suggestion into consideration."
"I'll take that as a yes then," I said not giving him a chance to disagree.
I'm not too sure what it is about Raymond that was different, but I found it really easy to get along with him. Even though he is a famous celebrity, he doesn't use his power to take advantage of things.
After jogging another round we went to my place. I took a bunch of stuff out of the fridge. There was sliced ham, lettuce, mayonnaise, tomatoes, tuna, chicken, mustard, and much much more. "So what would you like on your sandwich Mr. Lam? And would you like white bread, or whole wheat?"
"Hmm..." he said as he had his figure on his chin deciding on what he had wanted. "I want that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that," he said as he pointed to what he wanted.
I looked at him with my eye's wide opened, "And do you expect your sandwich to be the size of a building?" I exaggerated.
"My mouth is big enough," he responded with a smirk.
As he watched me put the sandwich together he finally asked what he has long waited to ask, "Charmaine, so how are you and that guy?"
"Yeah, everything is fine, we're just friends," I lied.
"That's good," he responded in an awkward tone. He knew that I lied. I could just tell by how he responded. I just wasn't ready yet to tell him the truth, because... well there wasn't really a because. It's just that I wasn't ready.
When we were done eating Raymond helped me clean up. I told him that I would do it myself since he was the guest but he insisted on helping. As we were washing the dishes I got some soap bubbles on my nose.
"You're a mess," Raymond laughed.
With my hands full of bubbles I wiped it on Raymond's cheek, "Looks like I'm not the only one."
"Oh yeah?" he said.
I nodded as I watched his incoming hand full of bubbles being aimed at me, "Oh no you're not," I said as I ran behind the counter and ducked for cover.
After fooling around, the two of us ended up making a huge mess as opposed to cleaning up. Running towards Raymond to get him back for splashing me with water I slipped on a puddle of water, "Ahh!" I screamed as I was falling to the ground face first.
Raymond quickly ran back to help me up, but on his way back he too slipped causing him to fall to the ground and breaking my fall. I had landed on top of him, and our eyes came into contact. We started at each other for a bit.
"Are you okay?" I finally asked.
He looked at me for a while before he answered, "I'm okay, but are you?" He helped me up from our awkward position.
I nodded in response. I didn't want to say anything because his question wasn't referring to me physically falling, but rather me falling for Kevin.
"Why won't you wake up already?" he said in a louder tone, as he grabbed a hold of my shoulders. "You know he's just playing with you, and yet you still go stick back to him like a magnet. He's with your friend already, and that's something you can't change. His unwillingness to tell your friend that truth about his feelings for you shows that he doesn't care about you as much as you think."
Raymond's words hit me like needles, but he was right. The thing is, it's not like I don't try to break things off with Kevin. I really did, but I just couldn't. I felt that my eyes were about to over flow in tears. I looked down not wanting Raymond to see me cry, "I did try to break things off with him, but you know how hard it is. I really liked him, I really did, and I really thought that Gigi was my best friend, I never expected her to do what she did. I know what I'm doing is wrong, and now when I talk to Gigi, I can't face her anymore, not because I'm mad at her, but I feel so guilty." I broke down into tears.
He saw my tears drops dripping to the floor; he held up my chin and looked at me. He pointed to his shoulder and opened his arms for a hug.
My head leaned over to his shoulder without thinking as I continued to cry, he patted my back and whispered, "It'll be okay. You'll get through this maze; I'm here to guide you right?"

Hey guys thanks for the comments!! =DWell Amy, when you get the time you should definitely share your story with us. I know what you mean by your #3. That actually happened to me with my last story. It didn't turn out like what I had previously planned in my head. So what I tend to do is just to look for another path and finish off the story so that it's not sitting there leaving all your readers hanging. I just finished high school this year, and I know how there is a load of work, and writing a fanfic is really time consuming. I just try to write when I have time, and sometimes when you see that you are getting wonderful feedback, writing the fanfic will become addicting. lol. Well I hope you have fun on your summer vacation.
jupi, melon nii, I'm sorry. I don't mean to make Charm a horrible person in the story, but it's just this whole plot to my story that's going on in my head. Well melon nii no need for you to go wake Charm up, because Ray did that for you. lol. Or did he? We'll see. I hope you guys were able to enjoy the chapter though!
Hope you all enjoyed that chapter. Hmm... I might be busy this weekend, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to update. I'll try my best. Well, stay tuned you guys, don't forget to comment =) !
