Chapter 3

The Search

"Still haven't found her yet? Are there really so many check-ins the day Lee Hom was admitted in? Keep looking, call me immediately if you found any clues.." JR. disconnected the call and continued walking along the corridor of the Wang's mansion. It had been almost two weeks after Lee Hom was attack and admitted into the hospital. Lee Hom had vaguely recalled seeing the pendant on the girl who came to the hospital with him. Besides tracing her, everyone had been busy finding out who had the guts to plan a sneak attack on the heir of one of China's largest and wealthiest organisations and even got away with it.

JR. stopped outside a white door, placed his hands on a pair of golden knobs and gave them a little push.

Behind the door was a spacious room filled with velvet sofas and classy furnitures. At the other end of the room, a tall figure stood by the windows, his back facing JR.

"Still no clues?" Lee Hom said without turning around.

"Nopez, not at all. They are still looking through the lists of patients checking in during that time when you were admitted."
"How about my attackers?Any news?" Lee Hom finally turned around and looked at his childhood buddy with tired eyes. JR. shook his head and sighed. There were dark circles around Lee Hom's handsome face.
"Judging from the fact that we aren't able to trace any information whatsoever about your attackers actually proves how powerful they are..." JR. let his words trail off. Not just anyone was capable of escaping from Homway Holdings' large communication network. To disappear without a single trace of information was something no ordinary Tom,Dick or Harry can do.This was one enemy they cannot underestimate.

Lee Hom sighed. What is the meaning of all this trouble. All these had happened in less than a month after he took over Homway from his father. First, the family stone was stolen. Then, he was attacked and he couldn't even trace who his attackers were. Whoever behind this must've underestimated his ability as the successor of the family establishment. He frowned. He must prove them wrong.

Just as Lee Hom and JR. were deep in thoughts and planning their next step. Someone came in through the door. It was an elderly man wearing a traditional chinese robe made from real golden silk. A picture of a dragon was sewn in at the lower edges of the robe. The old man walked slowly into the room and met the gazes of the 2 young men.

"Grandpa!" Lee Hom and JR. greeted in unison.
"Lee Hom!What happened? I rushed here once I heard of the news of your attack..." Old Mr. Wang held his grandson's shoulders and examined his face.

Lee Hom and JR. exchanged glances. How did Old Mr. Wang knew about Lee Hom's attack? JR. had reminded everyone in the company to keep the news to themselves and not worry Lee Hom's family in New York.

"I'm fine, Grandpa. It's just a slight injury..." Lee Hom assured his grandfather and helped him to the sofa and continued. "Grandpa, you shouldn't have come. Before we find out who our enemies are, it's best if you had stayed in New York. I'm afraid they might harm our family members.Whoever's trying to harm us right now is someone we cannot underestimate. He could be someone dangerous and powerful..." Lee Hom explained to his grandfather.

"Yes, it's better if you stayed indoors or have a few more bodyguards around you while you're here in Taipei. Don't leave our line of sight again, Grandpa." JR. reminded. Old Mr. Wang had a habit of disappearing once in a while without telling anyone in the family and reappearing a few days later when everyone was busy looking for him. Lee Hom nodded and smiled, in hope of lightening the atmosphere in the room.

"JR.'s right. We must not let anyone in the family be under any danger again. Maybe we can try planting bugs in everyone so it'll be easier to trace any missing persons..." Lee Hom joked.
"Haha, bugs...BUGS!" JR. exclaimed all of a sudden. He grabbed Lee Hom's arm excitedly and continued, "BUGS! That's it!We can trace her!" Lee Hom stared at JR. for a split second, trying to register what did he meant by tracing...

Lee Hom's eyes widen as he finally understood what JR. was trying to explain to him.

"Hell! Why didn't we think of it earlier? The jade pendant was passed down from one generation to another...It was a priceless treasure every other empire can't wait to lay their hands on. Of course, others have tried to steal it away from us, but every time someone tried to steal it, it was recovered as quickly as it was lost... Because my forefathers had long planted a tracing bug into the pendant to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands! Why didn't I think of it earlier?" Lee Hom was standing up and pacing around the room.

Without hesitation, JR. took out his mobile phone and gave orders for the bug to be activated. They have to trace the girl immediately.

"Once we've found her, we'll be able to find out what is the pendant doing in her hands and how did she get it..." Lee Hom rested his chin on his thumb and rubbed his lips with his index finger. "Somehow I feel there is more that meets the eye...If the girl holding the pendant knew that it belonged to me, why would she still want to save me?..." Lee Hom asked aloud, trying to figure out a possible answer to his question.

"Don't worry, we'll find out as soon as we find the girl...And it's all thanks to Grandpa...If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have figured out about the bug in the pendant..." JR. folded his arms. He was not the real grandson of Old Mr. Wang but affectionately called him Grandpa because he had grown up with Lee Hom in the family ever since he was born. His family had been working for Homway for many generations. The kind of relationship they have had with the Wangs have long gone beyond just the employer and his employee. They were almost like a family.

Old Mr. Wang smiled. He too, was waiting to find out who had the guts to steal the family treasure.
