She examined her face in the mirror and was about to dig into the bottle of cream again when she stopped mid-air and pricked her ears. Weird... Something's wrong with the atmosphere. A second ago the whole place was noisy, now, it was so silent you could not even hear breathing. Suddenly, all Hebe could hear was the sound of moving traffic 14 floors down. Something's wrong. Hebe set the things in her hand down quietly onto her desk and rose quietly from her seat and peeped out of her cubicle, exposing only two round eyes above the partition wall. She held her breath...
At the far end of the room, there were 3 men conversing with the receptionist. They were all dressed smartly in black. She could not make out what they were talking about despite the silence of her surroundings. The receptionist turned around suddenly and pointed at Hebe's direction. The 3 men took a bow and started walking towards her. At Hebe's side, her colleague bent down and mumbled through her teeth.
"They're coming your way. Did you offend any secret society?" Hebe looked at her colleague then sat back down into her chair. Secret society? She didn't even have time to offend her superior, why would she want to offend some secret society members? Just then, the men reached her desk and were peering down at her.
"Are you Miss Lin Fu Zhen?" One of the men asked.
"Haar?...Er...Yes...Ddd..do I kknnooww you?" Hebe bit her lips nervously. They knew her!
"Please make a trip with us. Our Young Master wants to meet you..." The man ignored her question and came straight to the point.
"EEr...I don't think I know anyone of you...You might have got the wrong person..."
"You're Lin Fu Zhen, right? Yes, we got the correct person, please make a trip with us." The man repeated.
"For what?..."
"Our Young Master wants to have a word with you."
"Young Master? I don't know of any rich masters.. You must've got the wrong person..."
"Our master is the President of Homway Holdings..."
"HHAAR!!All the more I wouldn't know him..." Hebe frowned.
"Miss Lin, I believe you remember the man you saved on the Friday night two weeks ago?"
"Friday?...The man?..." Hebe recalled that night. HIM??? "He...he's..."
"Yes,he is our Young master. He wants to express his gratitude towards you for saving him..." The man paused for a moment, before adding, "and..he wants also to have a word with you..."
"Haaar??...eerr...haha..." Hebe laughed uneasily. "He wants to thank me? Haha... no need... Tell him it's not necessary..."
"He MUST see you..." The man was getting annoyed.
"Whhy? I don't really need him to thank me, tell him it's OKAY..." Hebe was getting annoyed too. When are they going to leave?
"Miss Lin, please do not make things difficult for us. Our master wants to see you."
"But there's really no need to!!I don't want him to thank me, and I don't have anything to say-" Hebe's words were cut off abruptly.
"Miss Lin, I believe you have in your hands something very important that belongs to our master?" The man narrowed his eyes at Hebe.
"Huh?" Hebe thought for a moment. Scenes from that fateful night flashed through her mind. THIng? What thing? Then it hit her. That night, before she knocked him unconscious, the man was tugging at her jade pendant.
*Flashback*
Hebe watched in shock as a bloody hand reached forward and grabbed her jade pendant. The man grasped it tightly in his hand and tried to tug it off her neck.
"What are you doing?!STOP IT! Let go!!" She shrieked and tried to grab the necklace away from his hand. The metal chain cut through her skin, the painful feeling made her panicked even more.
"Mi..mine.." She heard the man mumbled as she bent lower and lower towards him.
*End of flashback*
The pendant...belongs to him? Hebe felt the jade on her skin. Fortunately, it was hidden under her blouse.
"Thing? What thing... I don't have anything that belongs to him..." Hebe feigned innocence. How can they prove it belonged to their so-called master? They could be some secret society members also after some century-old antique. They might be thinking of doing some illegal business with the jade. Moreover, she bought the jade, it's hers now.
"No matter what, Please come with us. You'll know when you meet him.Please." The man motioned for her to follow them.
"No...I don't want to see him, please leave." Hebe tried to sound firm.
"Miss Lin, please don't make things difficult for us." The man pleaded.
"NO!" Hebe looked away and avoided their gaze.
"Please do not make us force you..." The man became firm in his tone and glared coldly at Hebe.
"Are threatening me? I repeat,I am NOT GOING!" No way is she going to give in to this hooligans!!God knows she might never come back alive if she followed them. The man narrowed his eyes and gave her a cold stare before moving forward. Hebe grabbed the edges of her desk as he moved around the partition. The other 2 men followed behind him. Hebe was expecting the men to drag her out, instead, they walked right pass her desk and headed towards the Managing Director's office. Hebe stood up, her eyes following them. What are they trying to do?
Once the door closed behind them, everyone started whispering to each other and looking at Hebe, making her feel queasy.
Minutes later, the wooden door opened. The Managing Director of the publishing company walked out of her office, followed by the 3 huge men. She was looking at Hebe with an irritated look on her face.
"Hebe! Leave with them now!" The Managing Director ordered.
"HAAR? WHY??!!"
"You better not offend Mr Wang of Homway Holdings. You know his mother is one of our company's biggest shareholders..."
"WHat??" This...this is ridiculous! Hebe stared at her superior with a look of disbelief on her face.
"It's your honour for Mr Wang to invite you to meet him. You better go with them, or you will LOSE your job!" The Managing Director threatened.
"...Yoou..." Hebe was lost for words. How can she lose her job? She can't lose her job!! If she didn't go, not only will she get into trouble for offending some powerful organisation, she will lose her JOB!!

Author's note: This chap is a little boring and long-winded yeah? lolx, LH and Hebe haven't had their first proper meeting yet! Don't worry, the next chapter's gonna be about that...
**Btw, about Hebe's surname, yeah, I purposely changed it to Lin, you'll know why in the later part of the story!
