Chapter 3

Bae Seul Gi

-YUN HO’S POV-

“Yah! Where are you taking me?! Jae slow down!” I shouted as he dragged me faster and faster towards the lift. He pressed the ‘down’ button eagerly as he said, “I want you to meet someone!” I laughed, “It’s usually me who tells you to come with me somewhere to meet someone, and now it’s your turn? How unusual!”

He pouted, “But you always make me meet your friends!” I raised an eyebrow, “So this person isn’t a friend? Who is he? A family member? Don’t I know all of them already? Jun Su, Chang Min, Ajusshi, Ajumma, Ha..”

“No!” He cut me off.

I looked at him suspiciously, “Then who is it?” He blushed as he looked down at his fingers. ‘Uh oh.’ I thought to myself. ‘This can’t be good.’

“Yun Ho! It’s a she!” I could feel my blood freeze, “Haha.” I laughed dryly, “Who is it? Your new girlfriend?” I tried to keep my voice as calm as possible but I didn’t think it was working. I sounded rather, well, scared actually.

His face lit up and I felt my worst fears coming true, “Yeah! She’s so nice and gorgeous! As my best friend, you just have to meet her!” My eyes widened as he said that, “So, you have a girl… Friend now?” I repeated his statement, resisting the urge to scream at the top of my lungs.

He looked at me with a proud look on his face, “Yup!” I felt sick. I really wanted to shout at him and tell him to break up with her. Well I would have if he knew that I loved him but since he didn’t, I would just have to keep my mouth shut. “Con… Congrats Jae Joong.” I forced myself to say. He looked at me, “Yun Ho are you feeling okay? You’re quite pale.” He reached out his right hand to touch my face but I slapped it away. “I’m fine!” I snapped.
He looked taken aback by my tone of voice and looked away, “Sorry, you didn’t have to shout at me.” I looked at him with guilt evident in my voice, “Mianhae yo Jae Joong, I was just, quite shocked.” He looked back at me and smiled, “Pabo! With my kind of looks and body, it’d be disturbing if I didn’t have a girlfriend! People would just think I’m gay.” He shivered at the thought and I felt my hopes crash to the floor even more. ‘Good thing I’m not going to tell him.”

DING!

The doors of the lift opened as Jae Joong dragged me inside, “Come on! She’s waiting for us!” I followed reluctantly. The ride on the lift was weirdly slower than the first time. Jae Joong was quiet and so was I. I could tell that he knew that something was wrong with me. ‘Urgh Jung Yun Ho! Stop acting like this! You’re making him feel uneasy!’ I shook my head to snap out of it but this only made Jae Joong look even more suspiciously at me.

-END OF POV-

-JAE JOONG’S POV-
Something’s not right. I looked at Yun Ho who was frantically shaking his head and clutching the railings of the lift so hard, I could swear I saw dents. ‘What’s wrong with him? He isn’t acting like himself.’ He refused to meet my eyes even though I knew that he knew I was looked straight at him. ‘Aish this boy… He’s only a few weeks younger than me and yet I act so much more maturely than him.’

I glanced up at the display panel. Storey 10. I looked back at Yun Ho who was so obviously angry. ‘Yun Ho, what’s wrong?’ I wanted to say but I knew his answer would be a ‘NOTHING’. I sighed as I saw the lift doors open for us. Thankfully the lift we used was only for the staff working in the kitchen so there weren’t any stops along the way.
“Come on Yun Ho! Hurry up!” I eased as I dragged him out again. ‘Yun Ho…’ He resisted quite a lot but I knew that he was trying to hide it. ‘That’s it. I’m so going to ask him what’s going on the moment this date is over.’

I let go of his hand and continued walking towards the café she was waiting in. I turned around to see if he was following me. He was but at a very slow pace. “Yun Ho-ah! Hurry up!” He didn’t reply but just increased his pace until he was standing next to me on the busy street.”Where now?” He asked. It was clear that he was irritated. I got kind of scared. Yun Ho when irritated is never a nice thing.

“Right there.” I pointed to the small quaint café down the street.

It looked more like a gingerbread house with fake lollipops pushed into the tiny patch of grass surrounding the entire place. The café was painted a bright cheery yellow and the door was brown and shaped like a piece of chocolate with its end bitten right off. It’s windows were rainbow-coloured and its rims were red and white just like peppermint. It was cute to conclude it all.

I quickened my pace, eager to meet my girlfriend for the second time that day and for once, forgetting all about Yun Ho. I ran as fast as I could towards the chocolate-shaped-door and pushed it open. I scanned the room and my eyes lit up the moment I saw her, “Seul Gi!” She smiled back and waved, “You’re back!” I ran towards her and gave her a hug and a slight kiss on her forehead. “Did you order anything yet?” She nodded and I turned to look at the table. Two mugs of coffee. One empty, one full. “You ordered one for me too?” She grinned and nodded her head. “Thanks honey.” I gave her a peck on her lips and she giggled, “Jae, is that your friend?” I turned around and saw Yun Ho holding a very, very dark expression on his face. ‘Yun Ho-ah…” I sighed before continuing, “Yes. He’s my best friend. Yun Ho meet Seul Gi. Seul Gi, meet Yun Ho.” I gestured at each of them.

“Hi!” Seul Gi said cheerfully as she extended her hand. “Hey.” Yun Ho said emotionlessly. He grabbed her hand and let go. That’s it. I bet even she could feel the awkwardness filling the air. “Well, erm, Yun Ho, here! Have a seat.” Seul Gi pulled a chair over to the table she was currently sitting at and sat down on her chair herself. I motioned for Yun Ho to sit down as well. He reluctantly plonked his ass onto the chair. I cleared my throat.

“So erm, Yun Ho, why don’t you tell Seul Gi more about yourself?”

He looked at me incredulously and asked, “Huh?”
“Go on.”

“Erm, well, I’m Jung Yun Ho, 23 years old. Born on the sixth of February nineteen-eighty-six. I currently work in the Cartel.” He said dryly and I really felt like smacking his head. I laughed slightly, “He’s quite shy.” Seul Gi smiled, “And cute!” I hit her playfully on the arm. “Hey! You just meet my best friend and you’re falling for him already?” She laughed, “No! No one can match your standard Boo!” I felt my insides get all butterfly-ish when she said Boo. She reached over and gave me a kiss on the lips. I gladly accepted and pulled her closer to me, not wanting the moment to end.

And forgetting Yun Ho’s existence. Again.

I pulled away and she giggled. “This is embarrassing Boo.” I chuckled, “So? Let them all see that you’re mine!” Her cheeks flushed pink and she gave me another kiss on the cheek. I looked over at Yun Ho and found him looking very, very pissed off. “So, erm, Yun Ho, I first met Seul Gi last week in the departmental store.”

She continued for me, “A snatch thief tried to snatch away my handbag but Jae Joong helped me catch him. Then we chatted and got a little carried away so we exchanged numbers. We felt like a connection, “She giggled at this point and I smiled, “And we started dating just yesterday! Jae Joong told me that he had a friend I just had to meet and I guess it must be you! You two seem really close.”
‘Yeah we are. But he’s making it seem as if we’re worst enemies.’

-END OF POV-

-YUN HO’S POV-

I really wanted to tear my hair out at the way they were acting. Okay I admit. I’m jealous as hell. They were kissing right in front of me like nobody’s business. Jae Joong was my best friend so I thought he had SOME clue as to how I felt about him but I guess I was wrong. Way wrong.

I moved my hands under the table and they formed a very painful clench. I could feel my nails digging further and further into my skin as their kiss went on. They finally broke apart and I felt a warm liquid oozing out from my hands. I looked down and was shocked to find that they were stained in blood. My blood.

‘Am I really that bothered about it?’ I glanced at Seul Gi and Jae Joong looking oh-so-intimately at each other and I felt my heart crack and break into a millions tiny pieces.
I looked away but didn’t say anything. I didn’t want to spoil their intimate moment. I swiftly glanced at my watch which read 12.45. ‘I’ve been through so much hell and only 15 minutes have passed?! Guess I better leave.’

I coughed to get their attention, “I think I’d better be going. You two enjoy yourselves. Seul Gi didn’t say anything but Jae Joong looked quite irritated, “What’s wrong? Doesn’t your break end at 2.30? Why are you leaving?” It was almost as if he was testing me. Testing me to see if I would tell him right there and then that I loved him and wanted to leave because I was boiling with jealousy and couldn’t take any more of it.

“I just remembered I have something to do at 1.” I replied, the annoyance evident in my voice. “Is that so…”I heard Jae Joong say. “Okay bye.” And with that, he turned back to face Seul Gi. His usual reply would be something like an enthusiastic “Bye Yun Ho!” or a “Saranghae!” When he felt like it but today it was completely different. My heart felt as if it was being trampled on again and again by herds and herds of elephants. “Bye.” I croaked.

I retreated swiftly towards the door, hiding my blood-stain hands in my black blazer. “Yun Ho wait!” Jae Joong?
I turned around and I could see the concern in his eyes. He probably sensed something wrong with my hands as well. “What happened to your hands? You never like putting our hands in your pockets. You did say once that they felt weird.”

I felt touched. Jae Joong remembered but at this stage of jealously, I was in no mood to explain to him what happened. “Nothing. It’s quite cold outside so I’ll do this for a change. Bye Jae Joong.” I looked at Seul Gi and gave a weak smile, “Bye Seul Gi.”

I pushed the door open and tried my best not to slam it. I thankfully succeeded but I knew that the sound was still loud. I walked towards the hotel again, not wanting to stay out here any longer. Not that it was cold. It was quite cold but I was used to this temperature. ‘Brilliant. Not Jae Joong will think something’s even weirder. His questions are like hell to dodge.’

I walked through the doors of the welcoming hotel and the warmer breeze instantly hit me, calming my nerves by a bit. I paced myself towards the doors of the lift and pressed the ‘UP’ button. I tapped my fingers against the wall, recalling all the acts between Jae Joong and Seul Gi. I felt my blood boil as I remembered their kiss. Jae Joong’s expression when he saw her. ‘She called him BOO. The nickname that I gave him since we were little. He gets ANGRY whenever I say it but with Seul Gi? HE LAUGHS.

“He fucking laughs.”

I banged my fist against the wall, “Fuck.” I swore under my breath. Just at that moment, the doors of the lift opened and I stomped in.

“Guess I’ll have to grab something off Lee Teuk later.” I muttered to myself.

The lift doors soon opened and the sight. Oh the sight. “YAH! KANG IN! LEE TEUK! WHAT THE FUCK?! GET OFF THE TABLE!” I shouted at the top of my lungs before turning away, blushing.

The sight, Lee Teuk bending on the table with Kang In fucking him from behind. Both bare asses were facing me and the fact that they were both moaning like crap and me being a virgin on scratch that, kiss virgin did not help one single bit. “Aish! You could have at least knocked right?!” Kang In bellowed as he released inside Lee Teuk, earning moans from the smaller male. They hurriedly cleaned up and put on their clothes and I looked back at them, “Well you could have at least faced your asses the other side!” I shouted back.

I looked around, “Do you have anything to eat?” I took my hands out of my pockets to slap Kang In on the back to remind him of my existence, “Huh? Oh yeah there’re some sandwiches at the back and HOLY MOTHER OF JUNG YUN HO WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR HANDS!?” Somewhere out there, Dong Hae sneezed. Kang In grabbed both my blood-stained hands and stared at them as if they were some Martian from another planter. “Erm… nothing.” Lee Teuk buttoned up his shirt, “Let me see.”

He took my hands and instantly recognized the nail marks, “You did this to yourself didn’t you? What happened?” Kang In slapped both his cheeks, “Noooooo! YUN HO’S GONE EMOOOO!” He screamed while running around the entire empty restaurant. I shook my head and Lee Teuk laughed, “Never mind him. What happened Yun Ho?”

I sighed as I parked my bottom on the floor. “Hyung, I messed up.”

Lee Teuk looked at me curiously, “What? What did you mess up? A love confession?”

I shook my head, “Aniyo. You know that guy I introduced to you just now? Kim Jae Joong?” Lee Teuk scratched his head for a second, “Oh him! Yeah why? What happened?” I sighed before burying my head in my hands, “He has a girlfriend.”

I didn’t need to explain any longer because I knew Lee Teuk already had a clear idea about what happened. “You fell in love with your best friend who has no peepin’ clue about your feelings and he runs off to get a girlfriend. He tells you, expecting you to be happy for him but you can’t because you’re in love with him. You dig your nails so hard into your skin, probably because they were kissing or something and you did it so hard, you started bleeding.”

I stared at him. ‘I knew you had a clear idea but now I think you’re psychic!”

Lee Teuk smiled proudly as he ran off to get a medication set. Once he got it, he took out some bandages and bandaged my bleeding hands.

“Love is hard Yun Ho. Even me and Kang In! We went through a lot before we could be together.” I expected him to say something deep and sad but instead, “Like the time where the monkeys in the zoo nearly tore off my hair and Kang In doesn’t like people without hair.” I really felt like smacking his head.

“Hyung!” He looked at me innocently, “Yes?” I swatted it away, “Never mind.”

“Yun Ho, you’re much younger than me…” I cut him off. “If you count four years then yeah I guess.” Lee Teuk glared at me before continuing, “You have a life in front of you. I highly doubt you’ll be working here for the rest of your life.”

He had a point there, “I want to try to work in a company.” Lee Teuk smiled, “See! You already have ambitions. You just have to try. As for Jae Joong, well, I can’t do anything about that but again, you have to try.”

Suddenly, Kang In popped out of nowhere. “Lee Teuk, why don’t we let him rest tonight? I don’t think his hands are up for the task. “But Kang In…” Lee Teuk whined, “What about our date?” Kang In hugged Lee Teuk from behind and smelled his strawberry scented hair (don’t ask me how I know this), “We’ll have it tomorrow okay?” Lee Teuk giggled before replying, “Araso!”

I sighed as I looked away from the happy couple. “I’ll go grab a few sandwiches then,” I said as I heard my stomach growl.

-JAE JOONG’S POV-

There I sat in the café with Seul Gi, trying to get Yun Ho off my mind ‘What’s wrong with that boy? Don’t tell me…’ “Jae Joong! Want to go to the park after this?” I snapped out of my thoughts and turned to face Seul Gi who was smiling at me angelically. “Sure!”

I hurriedly finished my coffee and I took Seul Gi’s hand in mine as we welked out of the café. Café Bolero.

‘I’ll go see him tonight.’

-THAT NIGHT AT YUN HO’S HOUSE-

-YUN HO’S POV-

I rested my head on my hands as I lay stomach down on my bed. Even my darling pillows didn’t help me this time. I was too caught up with Jae Joong and Seul Gi. I’m just so pissed off whenever I see them together. She even called him BOO! BOO! The nickname I came up with for HIM to be called by ME and ONLY me. I sat up and started raining punches on my pillow. I think it was Lala.

What? I name my pillows! So what!

“Argh!” I screamed as I clutched my head.

“JUNG YUN HO QUIET DOWN! IT’S 10 AT NIGHT!” I heard my mother shout. “YOU’RE AS LOUD AS ME!” I could literally see him roll his eyes. “WELL AT LEAST I HAVE A REASON FOR SHOUTING SO LOUD! UNLIKE YOU WHO SUDDENLY SCREAMS FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER!” I fumed, “I HAVE A REASON!” But this time, I didn’t hear any response, instead, this time, I heard foot steps coming up the stairs and stopping in front of my room.

It knocked.

“Who is it?” I asked blandly. I bet it’s that stupid mother of mine again.

“Yun Ho? It’s Jae Joong.”

Jae Joong? What’s he doing here? I walked reluctantly towards the door and opened it which cause me to meet Jae Joong, face to face. “What’s up?” He didn’t reply.

Instead, he just pushed me back inside my room. The impact caused me to fall straight onto my bed. I yelped. “Yah! What’s wrong with you?!” Jae Joong glared at me. “What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you! What was up with your attitude this afternoon! You treated Seul Gi like crap!”

Seul Gi Seul Gi Seul Gi. It’s all about Seul Gi and this is only the second day since they started dating.

“No I didn’t not!” I resisted. I stood up so that I was now looking down at him. I knew he was angry and I was too. “You did. Yun Ho stop acting like this! It’s fucking annoying! You won’t even tell me why the fuck you’re angry!” I snapped. “Kim Jae Joong! Do you even know how I feel?! You assume I just like you and Seul Gi to be together? I HAVE FEELINGS TOO!” I balled my fists together, causing the closed wounds to reopen and stain the bandages red again. Jae Joong focused all his attention on my hands as he walked forward. “Yun Ho, what happened?” He asked again in a much gentler voice.

“Nothing.” I replied. I was still pissed. No scratch that. Jealous. He took my hands into his as he removed the bandages. “Yah! Let go!” I shouted as I tried to pry my hands out of his hold but it was no use. He wouldn’t let go. “Is this why you put your hands inside your pockets this afternoon?” I looked away. “Jung Yun Ho look at me.” I flinched at his tone of voice and did as I was told. He repeated his question, “What did you do to your hands? When I met you today, you didn’t have any injuries.”

“I… I accidentally scratched them in the restaurant on a broken piece of wood under the table and didn’t want to spoil your beautiful moment together so…” I trailed off.

But Jae Joong seemed to believe me, “Oh. Sorry Yun Ho, for getting for angry at you.” He stroked my hands like any best friend would. I was touched and happy that he treated me like this. But I wanted more. Much more. “Never mind Jae Joong. It was my fault too.” I mumbled.

His face, his eyes, everything at that moment seemed to draw me closer and closer, causing me to want more and more of him. ‘Snap out of it Jung Yun Ho! He’ll never be yours.’ I stoned my hands and Jae Joong seemed to feel it, “Does it still hurt?” I shook my head slowly until he pressed down hard on it. “OUCH! YAH! JAE JOONG!” He laughed. “Yeah right it doesn’t hurt! Wait here. I’ll go ask Hee Chul Ajumma for the bandage set.” He walked swiftly out the door.

I felt numb as I sat down on the bed. “Jae Joong-ah, do you know how much I love you?”
