I sat there in my desk staring blankly out of the window. I had already read everything the teacher was talking so I have practically been dreaming for the past let’s see… Half an hour.
‘Okay so my current job is a waiter and the monthly pay is 1,000,000 won… If I work overtime everyday that’ll be an extra 250,000 won which is enough to—‘
“…Joong!”
‘Pay for another hour for Jun Su And Chang Min to turn o the air conditioner…’
“Kim Jae Joong!”
‘But if they choose to turn it on then Chang Min can’t eat as much because—‘
“YAH KIM JAE JOONG ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME?!”
“Huh huh?” I snapped out of my reverie and turned my head from the window to the fuming Choi songsaeng-nim in front.
“Are you listening to me?” He asked again while glaring at me. I shook my head slowly and waited for the worst.
He cleared his throat.
“Well then, come out here and solve this problem.” He gestured to the algebra sum on the board and I gawked at it. ‘We’re learning… This? It’s so easy! I read about it last year!’
Oh well.
I pushed my chair out and walked to the front. Taking the piece of chalk from him, I scribbled down the answer and glanced briefly at it before walking back to my chair and sitting down silently and calmly.
He looked at me speechless before turning back to the lesson.
Hello people. My name is Kim Jae Joong. I’m 18 years old this year and I’m currently a senior in Neul Param High School. Nicknamed ‘The rich high school.’ I managed to come here because of my awesome grades. Other than that, I have nothing.
To hide my so called ‘girly features’, I wear thick rimmed glasses which have no degree since I don’t need them at all. No one has ever seen me without them and I don’t actually intend to let them see me without it.
I have two younger brothers, Kim Jun Su and Kim Chang Min who are also studying in this school. Jun Su is 16 while Chang Min is 17. Life in this school if relatively peaceful and quiet. But there are two people who just love making my life difficult for me.
I turned to look to my left and sighed.
Jung Yun Ho.
My arch enemy. He’s a stupid, annoying, retarded, flamboyant, stupid… Did I mention stupid? He’s practically the kingka of the school. And not to mention playboy. I wonder how many girls he slept with already.
… Anyway, back to the point.
He’s my arch enemy not in the sense of school. I could beat him in any subject with my hands tied behind my back, eyes closed and doing headstands. He’s the bottom of the class and I don’t think he even bothers about the fact that he sees a huge red ‘F’ on the top right hand side of every paper of every term.
And no.
‘F’ does not stand for fantastic.
He’s an annoying brat. Rich brat to be exact. He drives a Lamborghini to school everyday and I swear, it’s a different colour every time I see it.
Like on Monday it was red, blue on Tuesday, black on Wednesday and yellow on Thursday.
He has a different cell phone each time I see it too.
It was a blackberry on Monday, iPhone on Tuesday, Samsung Omnia on Wednesday and back to a blackberry on Thursday.
I scowled at him and he looked up at me, causing our eyes to meet. He gave me a arrogant smirk and I glared at him before turning back to my textbook lying down on the table.
Don’t get me wrong okay. It’s not as if he’s ugly or anything. He’s really kinda hot. Oh my God did I just say that? Okay fine I did. Rewind rewind.
He has those slanted almond-shaped eyes that all the girls go gaga over, heart-shaped lips that again the girls all go gaga over, toned abs that yet again the girls go gaga over and his deep husky voice that practically make them foam in their mouths and die.
… Yeah I know my school is warped.
His parents, if I remember correctly are the founders of the Jung Industry which mainly does shipping around the world for cars and phones and stuff like that. Hey maybe that’s where he gets all his nice stuff from! Urgh not that I actually care though.
I turned to look at the person sitting beside him.
Park Yoo Chun,
He’s like Yun Ho’s innocent sidekick. Seriously. He goes everywhere with him and sometimes I wonder if he’s gay. Okay fine maybe not.
He has curly hair which all the girls keep squealing ‘so cute’ for, nice voice that they again, keep squealing for and his smile.
God can we not go there? The last time that happened, I nearly went deaf.
In conclusion, Jung Yun Ho is an annoying bastard who loves making school life difficult for me and Park Yoo Chun is his slightly nicer sidekick who sometimes helps me while The Jung isn’t looking.
Tada the end.
Urgh what a bore.
I looked at the clock which showed a 1.58 which meant that lunch was in another two minutes. Oh the joy.
That’s another problem in studying in a rich school. Since I’m practically a poor peasant, the school lunches are a big no-no for me. I mean, 100,000 won for a set lunch?! Are you crazy?! Gosh rich people these days.
So I pack my own lunch everyday. I thank the Gods that I can cook decent food unlike Chang Min. The last time I allowed him into the kitchen, he nearly blew it up. Not to mention a broken window because he used too much force when cutting the vegetables.
RRRRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
“Okay class so that’s all for our lesson today.” Choi song saeng-nim said and got his books before leaving the classroom.
The moment he did so, the girls all swarmed around The Jung and his loyal sidekick.
“Omo Yun Ho you were so cool today!”
“Yeah! When the teacher asked you to answer the question and you said you didn’t know how to, it’s was so sexy!”
“Your eyes were gleaming and your smirk was so sexy!”
“Choi song saeng-nim was being smart in asking Yun Ho wasn’t he?”
“Yeah! So we could all see his gorgeous ways of answering questions!”
I rubbed my temples.
“I will never be able to understand girls.” I muttered under my breath.
The Jung stood up and flashed the girls his pearly whites and they started screaming again. I grabbed my lunchbox and headed hurriedly for the door before yanking it open and dashing to the rooftop. The only quiet place in the entire school.
The Jung was a playboy. A major one at that. He changed girls as many times as he did with cars and phones.
On Monday it was Cha Rin, Tuesday Ra Neul, Wednesday back to Cha Rin and Thursday Su Min. Gosh I don’t think I even wore as many clothes as he changed anything else.
I sat down comfortably on the ground and unpacked my lunch which mainly consisted of last night’s share of gal bi and some eggs and rice. It was… Edible I guess.
I spooned the rice and was so close to putting it into my mouth before the door banged open.
I looked at who it was and rolled my eyes.
“What do you want Jung?” I asked and put my spoon down, arms akimbo.
He smirked at me and his trusty sidekick stood behind him.
“Is that the way to talk to the kingka of the school Mr Kim Jae Joongshhi?” I rolled my eyes.
“Stupid bastard.” I muttered under my breath.
“Kingka my ass.” I said and closed my lunchbox, appetite completely gone. His expression darkened as he walked up to me and took hold of my lunchbox. I widened my eyes as I stared at the hand holding onto it.
That was the lunchbox Ummma gave me before she passed away…
Was all that was running through my head.
“Listen up. You’re just some stupid worthless peasant that was just lucky to transfer into our school. You’d better pay me some respect. Got it?” He bent down and placed the lunchbox on the floor, not at all what I was expecting.
I looked away and sighed, “You’re in a good mood today huh?”
I might hate him but I knew him very well. We were classmates for three years for God’s sake.
He raised en eyebrow but smiled, “Yeah I am. So I’ll let you off today.” He stood up and turned to leave. Curiosity overwhelmed me for some unknown reason, “Why?”
He stopped in his tracks and looked at me. He smiled and continued walking off.
Shaking my head, I opened my lunchbox again, “Stupid asshole.” Park The Sidekick walked towards me and rummaged in his pocket and pulled out a 10,000 won note and smiled warmly at me.
“Use this to buy something to eat.” I looked wide-eyed at him but he just smiled, “And don’t tell Yun Ho about this.” He winked and skipped off happily.
The Park is so much nicer than The Jung. I don’t even know why they’re friends in the first place!
I pocketed the note and continued eating in silence.
The last lesson was taught by Choi song saeng-nim again.
Okay I have to say this but he’s really very good looking. His real name’s Choi Si Won and he’s like only 23, 5 years older than us. All the girls go gaga over him as well and he’s a really good teacher.
“Okay class that’s all for today! Enjoy your weekends!” He called out. “Jae Joong come here.” He gestured to the door and the class turned to stare at me. I shrank back as 39 pairs of eyes stared at me and Yun Ho’s seemed to be the most affecting. His stare was a mixture of curiosity and anger.
Anger?
Where did that come from?
I picked up my bag and walked out of the door which Choi song saeng-nim was holding for me. Man it’ll be hell dodging all the questions tomorrow.
I walked with him to the teacher’s room and sat down on the chair he pointed at.
“Yes song saeng-nim?” I asked nervously. I might be a straight A student but being called to the teacher’s room was a new thing for me.
“Jae Joong I would like to offer you a job.” My ears perked up. Did I hear correctly? “A job?” I asked to confirm and he nodded his head. “A job.”
I leaned in, showing him I was clearly interested.
“How would you like to tutor one of your classmates?” I looked at him blankly.
“Me? A tutor?” I pointed to myself
He nodded again. “We have received a request for you to teach.” I nodded blankly again. “And who is my student sir?” He placed his hands on the table.
“Jung Yun Ho.” I sat up straight in my chair and nearly barfed. Me? Tutor Jung Yun Ho? Hell no.
“Erm… I’m sorry sir but I don’t think that’s possible. You see—“
“It’s a monthly pay of 5,000,000 won and you only need to tutor him twice a week.” He continued. I rolled my eyes to look at him and sat back into my chair. “5,000,000 won twice a week?”
He nodded again, “And there will be a raise if his grades improve. Currently, his highest score this year is a 25/100.”
Holy shit.
“His parents have requested for you to teach their son. Since you are the smartest student in this school. They go for the best you see.” He pursed his lips and waited for my answer.
I bit my lip and sighed. Me teaching my worst enemy. Now that’d be a nice sight. “When’s the first lesson sir?” He smield and sat up straight. “Today at 3pm to 6pm.” Three hours. Not that bad… I think.
“I’ll take it.” He grinned.
“That’s great.” He scribbled down something on a piece of paper and handed it to me. “This is his address. Please don’t be late.”
I stood up and bowed, “Thank you song saeng-nim.” He smiled in return and I opened the door and walked out. Leaning my forehead against the cool wall, I let out a soft sigh.
“I hope I survive.”
“I hope I do too.” At the sound of another voice, I turned to look at who it was. I pressed my lips into a thin line at the sight of Jung Yun Ho.
This is going to be interesting.
