TIM: Come in!
MEINA: Hi, Tim!
TIM: (smiles) Have a seat please!
MEINA: (sits down) I heard what you said yesterday…
TIM: I'm sorry, I didn’t mean to put it across that way…
MEINA: I understand, don’t worry!
TIM: (relieved) Oh really? Then that would be great!
MEINA: I understand that we’ve only known each other for a couple of months, but you have known Helen for almost a decade, I can wait, Tim!
TIM: You still don’t get it!
MEINA: I do!
TIM: I’m nice to you because of Ah Yan, do you understand? She’s my friend, and taking care of you is just like fulfilling my duty as a friend to her, do you get it?
MEINA: One day, Tim, one day, you will accept me, I know that!
TIM: (turns his head away) Impossible!
MEINA: Nothing is impossible in this world! Tim! Helen is gone! And that is a fact, you’ll have to accept it anyway!
TIM: (stubbornly) You have no right to keep your finger into my family affairs!
MEINA: I’m sorry… but I’m just being concerned!
TIM: I appreciate your concern, but I know what I’m doing, Meina!
MEINA: If you do, you won’t be doing what you’re doing!
TIM: (shouted) Meina! Do you know you’re so annoying!
MEINA: (sobs) I know! I am such a burden to you! If I wasn’t Ah Yan’s sister, you wouldn’t like to entertain me at all, isn’t that so?
TIM: That is not my meaning… I’m sorry for raising my voice…
MEINA: Why? Why does everybody in the world hate me so much? I know… I’m not as good as Helen; I’m not as educated and smart as her; I’m not as gentle and caring as her, but do you think I have a choice? I was just born like that! Since young, I have been running all over places with Dad to avoid his enemies and creditors. If you let me choose, I wouldn’t want to be myself too!
TIM: Meina, don’t say that, everybody have his or her self worth!
MEINA: Yes! Everybody but me!
TIM: Of course not!
MEINA: (throw herself into his hug) Tim… I don’t want to be like that too, I don’t want to be a pest, I don’t want to sound annoying…
TIM: I know… I know…
Deftly and quickly, she plants a kiss on his cheek. He then pushes her away hastily.
TIM: Please… please don’t be like that!
MEINA: I know you will accept me one day! (looks at him then rushes out)
Tim stares into the blank air and sighs…
Someone stood at the door and knocked.
LING: Erm, sorry, Tim! I didn’t mean to eavesdrop, but I just want to tell you I’m going with Keung to fetch little Flora up!
TIM: Ok, thanks! Sorry to bother you!
LING: (smiles) Don’t say that, we’re friends!
She turns and closes the door for him. There comes the cogitation in her again…

[Coffeehouse – afternoon]
Keung and Ling arrived to see Liza already playing with Flora inside.
KEUNG: Auntie! Sorry we’re late!
LIZA: (smiles) It’s ok, I have plenty of time. And I would certainly love to spend more time on Flora as well… (she strokes Flora’s head) she just reminds me so much of Helen, she’s just exactly like Helen when she was little… save for the way they address me…
KEUNG: (comforting her) Auntie, don’t be too sad…
LIZA: (holding back her tears) I must be thinking too much again! Keung, is this your girlfriend?
KEUNG: Erm, nope! She’s Tim’s secretary, Miss Tin Ling!
LING: (shakes hand) Nice to meet you, Auntie!
LIZA: Indeed, you’re a beautiful young lady!
Ling smiles lightly and sits down.
KEUNG: Auntie, have Flora been giving you trouble this couple of days?
LIZA: (laughs) Of course not, she’s just as good and well-behaved like her… (pauses)
KEUNG: Erm… I see! But she is always so playful at home…
LIZA: It’s just natural for kids to be like this… But she’s especially well-behaved with me; perhaps…
KEUNG: Don’t be bothered too much, Auntie…
LIZA: I wish I could! Perhaps it was my fault, which ended her into such a sorry state! If only she hadn’t been such a soft person… I wish Flora would resemble her in any other aspect except this…
KEUNG: (worried) Auntie…
FLORA: (fetches a tissue to her) Po po don’t cry! Po po sad, Flora also sad! (pouts)
LIZA: (carries her up onto her lap) Don’t be sad, Flora! Po po is not crying. (forces a smile) See? Now be good and follow Uncle Keung home…
FLORA: Po po I don't want Daddy! Daddy don’t love Flora and Mummy!
LIZA: Of course not, silly girl! Daddy dotes on you, and is therefore strict with you!
KEUNG: Yah, Flora! If Daddy bullies you, me and Ye Ye, Ma Ma, Suk Suk will punish him for you!
FLORA: Really?
KEUNG: Of course! (carries her up) Because you’re our little precious princess!
The little kid chuckles as she found two more fun company to play with again.
Later out on the streets…
FLORA: Uncle Keung, Ling jiejie, can I see the bear bear behind the glass? (she points into a shop)
KEUNG: Ok! But why did you call me Uncle and call her jiejie?
FLORA: Because jiejie is young and beautiful!
KEUNG: (sulks) And that is to say I’m old and ugly?
FLORA: (giggles) Hehe… you said that yourself!
KEUNG: You little imp! (trying to hit her head)
FLORA: (hide behind Ling) You cannot catch me!
LING: Keung ah, don’t!
FLORA: And you just said you will protect me if Daddy bullies me, now you’re bullying me! (pretends to cry)
LING: Oh no! You made her cry!
KEUNG: Ooops! (squats down, and pulls his own ears) Sorry sorry Flora! It’s all my fault! You can punish me in any way you want!
FLORA: (grins) Hehe… (pointing behind the glass) I want that bear bear!
KEUNG: Phew!
Ling laughs at the way Keung gets helpless with the little girl. In some way or another, she wishes to find herself in the position of little Flora, innocent and naïve, carefree, worries-free, trouble-free…
