[The next day – Tuesday – 13 June 1999 – Fok’s Holdings Private Ltd]

LIK: (walks in) Good morning, Mr. Fok!

DAVID: (smoking his cigar) Take a seat, young man! What was the deal you were proposing to me?

LIK: I want to seek cooperation with you, Mr. Fok!

DAVID: Hmm… but why must I trust you? Considering that you’re working under Yip Hau Lai!

LIK: Because we have a common enemy – Yip Wing Tim!

DAVID: (puts away his cigar) You have some feud with that rascal too?

LIK: Yes, so we have a common goal now!

DAVID: But what would I get from cooperating with you? Besides helping you? I don’t like to do businesses which bring harms to other but do not benefit myself!

LIK: I know you love your granddaughter too, Mr. Fok!

DAVID: What are you trying to suggest?

LIK: Well, I know losing a daughter is a pain to you, so perhaps getting back your granddaughter would be due compensation, at least to the heart! Without that Yip Wing Tim, you could see your granddaughter anytime you like!

DAVID: (ridiculing) That’s funny! Why do I need to rely on outsiders to see my own granddaughter?

LIK: Well… perhaps you’ll be interested in acquiring Lik Tin Century? (grins)

DAVID: (shakes his head and looks at Lik) Young man, who do you think you are? What makes you think that you have the ability to beat Yip Wing Tim?

LIK: (smiles) That’s exactly why I need your help, Mr. Fok! Why not listen to what I have to say first?

DAVID: Ok, go ahead!

LIK: This coming Saturday, Lik Tin will be signing a contract with the Taiwanese clients regarding the smoke-free city project…

DAVID: And?

LIK: (confidently) I’ve already got their proposal at hand!

DAVID: You plan to snatch the deal?

LIK: Not that simple! I want Lik Tin to collapse, and Yip Wing Tim to be defeated! I want him to know the taste of failure! Complete failure!

DAVID: Looks like you have it all planned!

LIK: I would not snatch the deal just by simply waylaying them, of course! That would be too easy on them! I want him to think that he had succeeded, only to be caught unaware by me!

DAVID: You only want to see him defeated? And you want nothing else?

LIK: There’s nothing else I need! I have nothing from day one, but it was my Gor who had not despised me, and took care of me, so I told myself, no matter what, I must avenge him!

DAVID: I guess I know where you’re heading!

LIK: So is that a deal, Mr. Fok?

DAVID: (walks over, pushing a glass of wine to him) To our cooperation!

[Lik Tin Century – same day – Tim’s office]

Keung was passing by Tim’s office when he sees the later laughing to himself.

KEUNG: (went in) Tim, what’s wrong with you?

TIM: (opens his eyes) You always come in at the wrong time!

KEUNG: How am I to know? What’s with up?

TIM: I just had a sweet dream and you broke it!

KEUNG: Fancy you day-dreaming at work!

TIM: Don’t you care!

KEUNG: Tim, you’ve lost yourself!

TIM: What?

KEUNG: I don't know why you’re behaving so weird these days! You don’t seem the old you at all… I almost thought you were possessed or something…

TIM: Keung, you’re nagging more and more each day! Anyway, I’ve gone through the proposal, it’s ok!

KEUNG: (doubtingly) Are you sure?

TIM: Come on, have more confidence in yourself! I say it’s ok and it shall be!

KEUNG: But you normally scrutinize the whole thing and spot the slightest mistake!

TIM: That means you made an improvement this time round! Nothing more for me to penalize, isn’t that good?

KEUNG: Erm… hope it’s what you say!

TIM: Ok, so take proper care of the proposal. (passing him) Here!

KEUNG: That goes without saying!

TIM: Then why are you still saying it?

KEUNG: (laughs) Ok, you win!

TIM: (grins) As usual! Anyway, anything more things for me to do?

KEUNG: I thought you would be glad to spend more time with your precious sweetie?

TIM: That is of course! But… I don't know… sometimes the more I see of her, the more I feel down…

KEUNG: Tim, certain things should be let go…

TIM: Easier said than done so!

KEUNG: But you should try! You know, actually…

TIM: (cut him) Stop talking about Meina!

KEUNG: (innocently) Hey, I wasn’t going to talk about her! (laughs) Looks like she’s going to be Helen’s replacement soon!

TIM: (firmly) No one can ever replace Helen!

KEUNG: That’s not what I mean, but…

TIM: I tell you, no one! No one can ever replace her!

KEUNG: I know… sorry, I really don’t mean that, but…

TIM: (turns his head away) Sorry, Keung! I need to be alone!

KEUNG: Ok… (exits)

Keung left the room and the employees outside took curious looks of their solemn faces. Tim stood up and went forward to pull down the blinds.

VOICE: Why did you throw your temper at Ah Keung? You know he is not at fault!

TIM: (spins around) Helen! I know you won’t bear to leave me alone!

HELEN: That’s not true! I told you I need to go soon.

TIM: Why?

HELEN: I’ve just been told I would need to depart on this week...

TIM: That means you will be able to celebrate Flora’s birthday with us?

HELEN: (smiles) Maybe…

TIM: (gives her a hug) That’s good enough! I got your word!

HELEN: And you should stop telling Flora lies!

TIM: That’s not lies! It’s called coaxing! All girls love to be coaxed!

HELEN: I know you’re so good at it!

TIM: Can you stay here and accompany me until I knock off?

HELEN: Someone will come in…

TIM: Nah, I’ll lock the door!

HELEN: Why do you need me here?

TIM: It’ll be better if you can come home with me…

HELEN: I am always with you, you know that…

TIM: (grins) That means you peek at me when I bathe?

HELEN: Hey! Who wants to peek at you? Shameless!

TIM: Yeah I’m so shameless, but you still love me…

HELEN: You’ve changed so much, Tim…

TIM: Isn’t that a good thing?

HELEN: Maybe… maybe not…

TIM: Why?

HELEN: Continue with your work, I’m going…

TIM: No! I have nothing to do at the moment! You saw that!

HELEN: Tim, the Yip Wing Tim I admired… he is always so focused in his work and his determination and confidence are unbeatable. He is not someone who would always spend his time on me and nothing else…

TIM: Why? (upset) What’s wrong with me changing?

HELEN: Tim, if a person loses himself it’s going to be very serious. Don’t create too many regrets in your life!

TIM: I…

HELEN: Be careful of those besides you…

TIM: Why…?

HELEN: (disappears) Remember…

TIM: (sighs) You haven’t told me why…
