Meina and Chi Keung were on their way up to Ming Tai…
KEUNG: Hey Meina, how did you get to know Cheung Chi Lik works here?
MEINA: Tim said it, you forgot?
KEUNG: (scratches his head) No, I didn’t… but you weren’t around when he told me that… I think!
MEINA: (rolls her eyes) Then can’t he tell me when you’re not around?
KEUNG: (raises his eyebrow) Would he?
MEINA: Well, I asked him!
KEUNG: (laughs) Ha! That’s why!
MEINA: (pouts) You got your way teasing me, happy now!
KEUNG: You still got the mood to joke!
MEINA: Hey you started it first!
KEUNG: (gets out of the lift) Okay, we’re here! You’ll go look for Cheung Chi Lik!

[Chi Lik’s office]
LIK: (sits down comfortably in his seat) Why are the both of you looking for me? I don’t think I know you very well…
KEUNG: Cut the pretence! Where have you taken Ah Ling to?
LIK: What business is that of yours? Who are you to her?
KEUNG: I’m… I’m her friend!
LIK: (points him finger at the latter) Now stop having fancy thoughts about her, foolish toad!
KEUNG: What… what did you say?
LIK: I called you a foolish toad, so what! Look at yourself, what do you have to make her like you?
MEINA: Cheung Chi Lik, I helped you out of a moment of kindness, I didn’t expect you would take advantage of the situation and do this!
LIK: Watch your words, Miss Ko! (protruded his lips in a proud way) What did I do exactly?
MEINA: (angry) You!
KEUNG: Meina, don’t argue with him further, we shall call the police and have him up for abduction!
LIK: (laughs) Go ahead! If you have any proof on your hand!
MEINA: Keung, why not you go out first and let me have a talk with him?
KEUNG: (confused) Why?
MEINA: Just do what I say, okay?
KEUNG: (looks at the two and feels helpless) Okay, I’ll wait for you outside! (exits)
LIK: Useless, Miss Ko! You aren’t gonna get anything out of my mouth!
MEINA: I wouldn’t want to preach further, but I believe you have your reason for hiding Ling!
LIK: (thinking) What are you up to?
MEINA: The doctor said Ah Ling had some problems talking now… wouldn’t you want her to recover? (he keeps quiet, and she continues) You would do her no help by keeping her and not providing her medical help!
LIK: I don’t need you to teach me what to do, girl!
MEINA: Whatever it is… I believe… everybody is born kind and innocent… it is the world, the society which changes them, pollutes them, and transform some into evil beings… but the basis of human is still kind. Within the deepest part of everyone’s heart, there exists conscience! Something to guide one through his or her own life!
LIK: (pauses, then spoke without lifting his head) Stop that preaching on me!
MEINA: If someone like Fok Geng Leung can do that, why can’t you!
LIK: (looks at her) You know why he changed his mind pursuing charges?
MEINA: It’s simple… just because everyone is kind by heart!
LIK: (snickers) You’re so naïve!
MEINA: Whatever it is… I just hope you know that there are many people who are concerned about Ah Ling besides you. And I believe Ah Ling sincerely treat us as friends! To love someone is not to possess him or her forever, but to make him or her happy… because if you truly love that person… when he or she is happy, you will be happy!
LIK: Shut up!
MEINA: Okay, just one last sentence… I hope you can release her happiness!
Meina leaves the office and joins Keung outside.
KEUNG: How did it go, Meina? Did you get him to say where Ah Ling is?
MEINA: (innocently looking at him) No.
KEUNG: Oh my, then why did you tell me to come out?
MEINA: Because I sensed that he didn’t like you too much!
KEUNG: That means he likes you?
MEINA: Hey! Of course not… but… hope he can know what to do…
KEUNG: What do you mean?
MEINA: I don't know how I should say it; but I still feel a tinge of kindness beneath his heart…
KEUNG: What nonsense! I shouldn’t have asked you along!
MEINA: I think we better try to find Ah Ling ourselves now, in case he refuses to listen…

After Meina’s departure, Chi Lik was still thinking about her words, whether they do make sense to his ears or not, it’s another matter to him. He pulled out his drawers and searches his wallet, trying to find a photo of them, but to no avail. Then he gradually realized that they hadn’t had a photo together. She wanted to have one long ago, but he told they couldn’t have one, in case others would find out about their relationship, and that his plan of putting her in Lik Tin Century as a spy would fall apart.
Once, they visited the shopping centre and had dinner, really late. After that, Tin Ling walked passed some photo stickers machines and wanted to take one together with him. To her disappointment, the machines were already switched off. Seeing how disappointed she was, he promised to have one with her the next time. But it never came…
He picked up the phone receiver, and tried to dial his home number, but then become conscious of the fact that Tin Ling could not speak now. He felt guilty, very guilty! When had he ever take proper care of her and satisfy her emotional needs? Was she her girlfriend? Or merely his tool for taking revenge? Suddenly, he misses her so much, and wishes she were here so he could give him a hug, a sincere and warm one.
He knew at least some of what Meina had said was true, she was right, they were her friends. She sees them as her friends; if not, she wouldn’t have been so quick to think of their interests, whenever he proposes something bad. How many sacrifices she had made for him, he lost count, or had he forgotten them? Confused, he was!
Finally, his heart couldn’t get rest because of the conflicts stirring within it. He grabs his keys and heads home…

PS: I sensed a little familiarity while writing abt Chi Lik and Tin Ling.. it looks a tad like... erm... HT! :p Ok I know recent chps many ppl have been missing... first it was Helen, then little Flora missing too... now even Tim is missing.. haha... some would ask what of an ATE2 would it be if I can allow Helen to be absent for so many chps, and telling readers tt it is coming to an end... I believe some of you are still reading... and you shall get the answers back soon, cuz the whole fic will be ending very soon. Perhaps I have too many nonsense scenes on my part; some of them were my messy thoughts, the other were generated randomly from the back of my mind. Anywayz, here is ard three-quarter of the fic completed! [btw, the ps and bg are onli here temp, the original one will be back in a few chps' time]
