Tim waited until he thought it was a suitable chance for him to show himself, when Helen excused herself to the washroom…
Tim went forward...
But was stopped by a stiff force…
MAN: (whispered as he pulls Tim back) What do you think you’re trying to do!
"TIM": I want to make good use of this chance to tell the past me that I…
MAN: (warned) You can’t!
"TIM": (stubbornly) Why not?
MAN: You are not supposed to see him!
"TIM": (desperately) And what is the reason?
MAN: As you are from a different dimension as him, there will be a repel like that of magnets of the same pole!
"TIM": So I’m supposed to keep a distance from him?
MAN: That's right!
"TIM": Then how am I to bear a chance to change history?
MAN: That one I don't know… but…
"TIM": Pardon?
MAN: 3 metres!
"TIM": I don’t get it!
MAN: The nearest distance you two can keep in contact! If you go beyond that, I can’t be assured you won’t be repelled back into 1999!
"TIM": Then can I…
The man did not wait for Tim to complete his sentence before vanishing into the air again…

[3rd day – 12 August 1994 – Friday – hospital]
Barry did not go home yesterday night when he got to know by chance that Helen was accompanying Tim by the pier for the whole night a few days back, and that she actually lied that she was busy repairing the computer at home. It was fate that brought him the cruel news that there was a high probability of his wife having a liaison with another men. If not that, at least it shows something. The plain fact hurt him, but he didn’t want to hurt her, so he kept it to himself.
Until the next day, Barry was sent into the hospital early morning because of acute appendicitis. Helen got notified and rushed to the infirmary without further delay. Barry, being haunted by his unhappy childhood, had instinctively developed a kind of phobia towards operation, even though it was a minor one. After Helen’s persuasion, he finally agreed to take the operation. Just before he went in, he wanted to ask Helen about the night to clear his doubts before entering the theatre. It just happened advertently that the wedding ring on his fourth finger slipped its way down and dropped with a clinking sound onto the ground.
Helen retrieved it and placed it on the table. At that particular moment, he held back his words. Thereafter he was pushed into the operating theatre; he turned and took a glimpse of Helen again. He held her hand tightly, in which he seeks warmth and comfort it. She gave him an assuring smile, and he went in.
Helen was browsing through the magazines in the ward while waiting for Barry’s operation to be over when she decides to take a walk outside due to boredom. On the hallway of the hospital, she heard two cleaners passing by, discussing about how the plane to France which departs at Hong Kong had crashed.
Her heartbeat halted a second when she caught the news out of sudden. She stopped her footsteps and wheeled around, rushing towards the two women, clarifying her doubts with them. From the stuttering and flustering of her speech and actions, one could tell how much she was disturbed by the horrifying news.
She then tucked a $200 note to one of the women in exchanged of shillings to make a call hastily when she found that her mobile’s battery was flat. She called the airline company but couldn’t get through, and this added on to her anxiousness. She was in a frenzy and could not decide what to do but her first reaction was to get out of the hospital to get further news, apparently forgetting that her husband was still in the operating theater.
Just as she was trotting her way out of the east wing, the nurse alerted her that Barry’s operation was over. She had no choice but to return to his ward. Columns of tears had long found their way rolling down her cheek. She wipes her tears hastily as she proceeds reluctantly back to the ward.
Halfway through, she was pulled away by a swift movement…
As she swings a small inch of degree, the force further hauls her into another ward as she quickly faces another individual.
He closed the door, pulled her closer to him, and stared at her. There seems to be a mirror in between them, as both of them were in tears, wearing the coincidentally same type of expression on their faces.
The feeling!
It was as if they had been separated for a lifetime!
Both of them froze, as their eyes went left and right repeatedly. She spoke up, chokingly…
HELEN: (sobbing) You… you didn’t board the plane?
"TIM": (shakes his head) The one wasn’t me…
HELEN: Huh?
"TIM": Nope, I mean… I didn’t!
He sweeps her face gently, wiping away her tears lovingly.
HELEN: Tim…
"TIM": I didn’t know you were still so concerned about me till now, Helen! I regretted it! I regretted everything!
She got her hands detached from his and looks away, trying to stop her sniffing.
HELEN: It’s just… just plainly a concern for a friend, don’t make too much of out it!
"TIM": (protested) I’m not! I know! You still love me, don’t you?
HELEN: (walking a step away) Of course not!
Ignoring her denial, he jumped forward and grabbed her from behind, squeezing her hands in his, pressing his head against her.
"TIM": (exclaimed) Helen! You’re lying! I know you do love me! And I know you’ve been waiting for a word from me, for 3 years!
HELEN: That’s your imagination!
He embraced her securely and closes all their distance.
"TIM": No! (leans closer to her) I love you!
HELEN: (closing her eyes and trying to break free) Stop it!
"TIM": I’m just trying to tell you that… the Yip Wing Tim you have never stopped loving… he loves you too, equally… or more! But it won’t be any lesser! (firmly) I promise you, Helen!
He releases her and fixes his lips on hers almost instantly.
His taut embrace almost suffocated her, but both of them didn’t care!
It was the first real kiss they shared!
Out of love! Mutual love! Mutual solid love!
And the thought itself… had abandoned millions of mundane concerns they would bother…
