[5th day – 14 August 1994 – Sunday – Near an alley at Watercress Street]
To attain a much-needed aid, Tim had agreed to the mysterious person’s request of waiting for him at some alley the next day.
Tim was told to meet him at two but as the clock ran past half past two, Tim began to get a little bit impatient as he takes frequent glances of his watch at increasingly shorter intervals.
Just as he was looking around, in search of his companion, Tim thought he saw a familiar figure across the street. He took his attention off his duty for some moments.
He was planning to walk up to Helen and say hi.
In the next second, he witnessed a masked man approaching her, seemingly harboring an ulterior motive. He was spot on, as the man hurriedly covered his victim’s mouth by one hand and hauled her into the alley by the other. Taken by shock and surprise, Tim ran across the road as fast as he could.
On the other side of the alley…
MAN: (in a hasty tone) This is a robbery! Take…
He then looks to his right, and saw Tim running towards them, where he withdraws further into the alley. While the man had loosened his grip a bit, Helen bites his hand. The man let out a little cry and was about to strangle her.
HELEN: (shouting) Tim!
TIM: Helen! (to the man) What do you want? Let her go!
MAN: Stay away! Or I’ll strangle her!
TIM: (worried) No! What do you want exactly? Money? How much?
MAN: Shut up! Take out all your money and…
Without waiting for the man’s further instructions, Tim sprang forward and attacked the man, seeing that he had no weapons with him. Tim struck a right blow, but the man had dodged away, and Tim, for fear that his blow would hit Helen instead, had drawn back it just in time.
The next moment, the man shifted his position a little and tried to strangle Helen again. Tim seized the chance to deal the man with a blow from behind, only to be hurt on the shoulder by the knife he flashed out in a sudden. Either being scared of the fact that he had injured Tim or for alternate reasons, the man dropped his knife and ran across the street hastily.
HELEN: (uptight) Tim! Are you alright? Shall I send you to the hospital? It’s still bleeding!
TIM: (pressing onto his wound, wincing) I’m still okay, are you?
HELEN: I seriously think you need medical attention, let’s go!
With that, Helen grabbed his hand and hailed a cab to the hospital. Tim took a look at his so-called longtime friend. Suddenly he felt so warm in the heart with someone truly caring for him…

[Same day – around the same time – garden nearby]
"Tim" saunters his way into the garden. The laughter of the children running about brought back lots of thoughts, and memories. It was among the group of children, that he spots a recognizable figure. He walks up to her anticipatively.
"TIM": (calls out lightly) Ah Yan? Is that really you, Yan?
IVY: (raises her head) Tim? What a coincidence! What are you doing here?
"TIM": (grabs her by the shoulders) Yan, I’m so sorry!
IVY: I don’t get your meaning!
"TIM": I caused your…
It was a shock to him that he could not actually continued with his words, as something within him seems to have prevented him from doing so.
IVY: Caused my what?
"TIM": (helplessly, sighing) I caused you so much unhappiness in the past!
IVY: (smiles) It’s all over, Tim! I’ve stopped mulling over it, why can’t you?
"TIM": (lowers his head) I don't know… this burden is too heavy for me to shoulder…
IVY: Then just drop it!
"TIM": (raises his head and looks at her) It’s a wonder you don’t blame me! It’s a blessing all those around me are so tolerant of my doings!
IVY: What happened, Tim? You don’t sound your usual self!
"TIM": (smiles vaguely) Because I’m not…
IVY: You do sound weird, but why are you so unhappy?
"TIM": I’m in a dilemma…
IVY: Mind if you tell me about it?
"TIM": I’m not sure if he likes her…
IVY: (not catching it) Pardon me!
"TIM": I mean… (taking a breath) If… I am saying if… I know what will happen to me in future, should I attempt to change it… should I attempt to alter the outcome of a relationship, for which I know will bear no fruits in future?
IVY: Pardon my stupidity, but…
"TIM": Should I pursue something if I am not sure whether I will cherish it now, but will do so in future?
IVY: (laughs) How did you know you’re going to cherish it in future?
"TIM": For some reasons… I just know!
IVY: How long is that future?
"TIM": 5 years!
IVY: And what is that something?
"TIM": Someone!
IVY: Do I know her?
"TIM": (hesitating) Ermm… (nods)
IVY: Oh my god, don’t tell me it’s…
"TIM": (anxiously) Huh?
IVY: Sandy?
"TIM": (burst out laughing) Haha… Oh my god… nope nope!
IVY: Hmmm… you know we just have very few common friends!
"TIM": It’s ok, don’t try to guess!
IVY: It’s just a pity the brotherhood between you three…
"TIM": (sighs) I have no time to comment on that now!
IVY: Ok, back to your question. I do think you should cherish the present while you can! 5 years is a neither long nor short period, but millions of incidences can occur…
"TIM": I agree… But what if I know I can’t cherish the present?
IVY: Then it depends on whether this relationship can hold until the time when you learn to cherish it… if not…
"TIM": I’ll only be bringing pain to her and myself…
IVY: Yes…
"TIM": I can’t bear to hurt her anymore…
He lifts up his left hand slowly and kisses the bite mark on it, closing his eyes, trying to make a decision…
IVY: Are you okay?
"TIM": (snap out) But what if there is a possibility that I may cherish it now?
IVY: Do you love her now?
"TIM": I’m not sure if he… (pauses and corrects) I’m not sure if I do…
IVY: Ask your heart!
