In the audition room.

“I’m Jeung Haemin, Number 234. I’m singing a song I wrote my self.” I smiled.
After I got through my chorus, I was cut off. I was sad. They cut me off… But the chorus was long and they let me sing for that long!?
“This is a rhythm test. It’s optional.” said the judge and she played a song.
I knew the song and it was one of my favorite songs to dance to.
I stepped out of my box and started dancing and smiling.
After the song was stopped, I went back into my box. The other people who were audition with me were nervous that their faces were red as a ripe tomato!
“Alright. All but 234 leave.” the male judge said.
“Well. You wrote your song your self, correct?” asked the female judge.
“Yes.” I nodded.
“Well. Are you interested in going to a new country and becoming a singer there?” asked the male judge.
“You’ll be kept away from your family.” said the female judge.
“Yes. I’ll do it!” I was happy.
“Sign here.” the Female judge handed me a contract. “Is your family member here?”
“No. I was dropped off.” I said.
“Can you call one of them so they’ll know that you made it?” asked the male judge.
“Yes.” I nodded, “Do you have a phone I can use?”
The male judge handed me his phone.
“Dad? I made it! And the judge wants to talk to you.” I handed the judge the phone before my dad could say anything else.
“Hello? Mr. Jeung? I’m one of the judges at the SM auditions. And we would like to have your daughter join our company.” said the male judge, “She’ll be leaving tomorrow. Ok. Have a good day.”
“Tomorrow. Come to Bunshin terminal tomorrow at 11 am. We’ll leave for Korea.” said the male judge.

Next day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had my suitcase in my hand. Mom and dad and my two baby sisters.
“Mom. Dad. When I become a singer. I’ll buy you all a new house and help my sisters with getting into a good college.” I smiled and hugged them one last time before heading onto the plane to korea.
One year Later
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It’s finally my first year in SM academy. They didn’t let me go in last year because I didn’t know korean. I know enough now to be able to speak with others.
I looked at the room number. This is suppose to be where my dance class is.
I walked into the room and saw the class was empty until an instructor came in.
“Ahh. You must be Haemin.” said Songsaengnim.
“Ne.” I nodded.
“Alright let’s get started.” he nodded.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
End of the day.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wow… I thought I had it bad last year…
Homework with korean lessons… This is hard.
No. I can’t give up! This is for mom and dad. I can’t give up! I left so that they wouldn’t need another mouth to feed.
I was worn out. Running. Practicing dance steps over and over again. If I can’t last one day like this. How can I last a day being a singer?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another year pass.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was drinking ice water while a tape measure was going around my waist.
I was offered a small role in a Drama called the glass shoe.
“Alright. You’re the right size. Here is your script. You need to memorize that. Tomorrow. We start filming.” said the director.
“Ok.” I nodded.
Well… One year later. I’m now acting in minor roles. It’s not so bad… It’s just now that my schedule is really packed. I’m writing home a lot but they don’t reply… Did something happen??
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One more year later.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ok… I gained a little weight and I’ve been offered a dress to wear in Elle korea. Now… I just need to lose weight.
“Are you ready?” Songsaengnim asked me.
“Ne.” I got into his car and he drove off down to a dumpling shop.
“We’re going to eat?” I asked.
“Nope. I’m going to eat. You’re going to run. Trust me. This works. I did it last year on another student. One dish of dumplings please! You’ll run until sundown.” songsaengnim said.
“Ne.” I started running.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It wasn’t sun down yet but I was getting tired.
“Keep on running. Just a couple more minutes and you can take a break ok?” songsaengnim said.
“Ne.” I started to run. I really wanted to lose this weight so I could make it into the photoshoot.
After a long while, songsaengnim called me in.
I sat down across from him, panting.
“A small dish of dumplings and water please!” Songsaengnim ordered.
“I thought I was losing weight. Not gaining.” I panted.
“Yes. I know. But it’s good for you.” a dish and a glass of water was placed in front of me.
I took a long drink of the water, I was so thirsty and I ate the dumplings slowly.
“Come on. Tomorrow. We’ll do swimming ok?” Songsaengnim said.
“Ne.” I nodded. Now I’m tired.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple months later.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was called up to SM sunbaenim’s office. People in my classes told me that people who get called up there are usually kicked out.
I tried to relaxed while going up the elevator.
I’ve been here for only three years. I can’t be debuting this early. Maybe I was getting kicked out.
I knocked on the door to SM’s office and headed in when I was called.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I’m sorry. I’ll work harder. Please don’t kick me out.” I bowed and said it all in one breathe.
“What? No. I want you to sing a song for me.” SM sunbaenim explained, “What made you think that I was going to kick you out?”
“Well… Some of the kids in my classes said that whoever got called up to sunbaenim’s office got kicked out.” I explained.
“Oh. It’s just a silly rumor. Now. Please sing a song for me.” SM because serious.
“I’ll sing Boa’s Sweetie.” I said.
I started in the chorus and then stopped when SM told me to stop.
“Alright. Go into that room and wait.” SM pointed to a door.
