Still she dressed herself carefully that evening.Thanks to Chun's generosity,she was able to shop for some decent clothes that will go with her new title as Mrs Wu Chun.She does not really want to shop and take his money but knowing that he is right,her clothes will not fit her anymore as his wife.
Ella liked the look in Chun's face once she came out of the room.There was pride and appreciation in his eyes,as she blushed at the way he looked at her that night.
"That dress really looked nice on you.I am sure my parents will like you." Chun said.
"Thanks to you.Yeah I feel better now that I am dressed nicely.It is like going to the battle in the right gear." Ella said.
Chun smiled.So meeting his parents is like a going to war with her.He never thought that Ella will feel that way.But he knows she will win all the battle that she will encounter in her life.He likes the feistiness in her, and her straightforward nature.He is sure his parents will like her too.
The car stopped in a big mansion in a rather affluent neighborhood.Ella have heard of the place but never been here before.It seems like all the rich people in Taiwan lives here.You can see the grandest of the grand in this isolated and exclusive neighbor hood.
The gates open as Chun drove the car in the driveway and stopped at the big entrance door.Ella let out a big sigh as Chun held her hand to assure her.She smiled back at him.He look sorry and apologetic,knowing how she feels at the moment.He must be feeling guilty ,Ella thought,well he should be,but then I came to this situation by my free will,I should not dump the blame all to him.Ahhh see what love can do ,as she shook her head....
Chun's parents are there waiting for them.Ella does not know what Chun has told them ,but they are there all ready to meet son's bride.They were gracious host but Ella knew that behind the smiles and the look she was being scrutinized.She didn't see the opposition from their faces on their marriage.In fact they really looked so happy for their son.
"So how long have you known my son,if you don't mind me asking?" Mrs Wu asked.
"I have known him for quite a while but we only started going out for few months back." Ella said.
Uhhhmmm and where did you met?" she asked again.
"In the office.You see I worked in your company." Ella answered."Chun didn't tell you?"
"No,he didn't tell us.He must have forgotten to mention it.Isn't it is too sudden,I mean the wedding and all.Chun is the only son and I have been expecting a big wedding and all,the traditional one." Mrs Wu said."I never thought that he will consider ever being married in America and in Vegas, of all places."
"I think that is what he is trying to avoid.He doesn't like the all circus things.We just want a private and quiet wedding." Ella said.
"How about you? Don't you ever dream of a big and real traditional wedding with the blessings of all the people?" Mrs Wu asked."In that way your marriage will be blessed by the God and all his deities.And it is a good start so your marriage will be happy and successful with all the bounties.It is good in business and also for a fruitful marriage in terms of children and all."
"I never really thought about it that way.I just thought that it is for a show.Now I knew it has deeper meaning." Ella said.
"So how about having the traditional wedding now?Our friends and family will be expecting something." Mrs Wu said.and just as Chun walked in and heard about all the wedding talks from his Mom.
"Mom,stop it.No more weddings,We are already married and the vows are as sacred as the traditional one." Chun said.
"But our families and our friends and all your business associates,they will be expecting something,an announcement at least." Mrs Wu said.
"Alright for the announcement but no more weddings understood?" Chun told her Mom."Is that alright Ella?"
"Yeah,just an announcement is fine." Ella said.
"You kids nowadays,I will never understand you." Mrs Wu said."Alright ,let me handle this for once.I will just have to confirm with Ella about this.And where are you going to stay for now?"
"In my flat,we are staying there for now." Chun answered.
"That is not even a suitable place for a young couple.That's a bachelor pad.We have to look for a better place for you." Mrs Wu said."Something suitable for a young family,right Lou?" as she looked at her husband who is watching and listening to them.
"Don't worry I'll take care of that tomorrow.But for now.I want both of you to stay here with us in the house." Mr Wu said."Ella has to learn to be a Wu and your Mom will only too willing to teach her the ways of becoming the mistress of the house.You will stay here with us,until your new home is ready." as Mr Wu said with a finality in his voice.Chun and Ella looked at each other.And they cannot find a voice to challenge him and say no to the senior Wu.His words is the rule of the house,that is what Ella has learned for today.
That night Chun and Ella spent their night in Wu's mansion in Chun's old room.This is the first time that Ella have seen his old room and she feels weird and kind of going to his private world.A world where no one was allowed to be in before.It is like discovering and knowing the real Chun Wu and he is far from the lucky one, who got it all,the Wu Chun that she have known before but coming to know the Chun Wu with all the responsibilities and who have a limited freedom to do his own thing.He is still bound to his Father's words and he cannot go against it even if he wants to.Ella felt sorry for him and she wished she can do something to ease that.Somehow being a part of all of this...is something she never thought of...
