The instant she opened the door, the music blasted loudly into her eardrums and she quickly covered her ears with her hands. Before she can get a clear view of her surrounding because of the flashing of lights, someone pushed her into the crowds. She tried to squeeze back out but it was impossible.

“Excuse me…Please… May I get through…”

She asked politely but nobody heard her. After several minutes of wasted effort, she pushed her way through aggressively. She approached one of the bartender.

“Excuse me…”

The girl with layers of make up on her face looked up at her rudely.

“What!”

“By any chance, do you know a Raymond Lam here?” She almost screamed but nothing can demolish her sense of class and polished upbringing.

“Yeah. So.” The bartender went back to her work.

“Hm… I need to speak to him.” The bartender continued to ignore her. Finally, she took out a ten dollar bill and slipped it onto the table. “Please…”

The bartender quickly snatched the bill. “He’s over there.”

She turned at where the bartender are pointing. There are a bunch of people there but when she turned back to the bartender, she was already gone.

She approached the group, and realized that there are at least six people there.

There are three men. One of them are practically on top of one of the girl, the second one was smoking heavily with a girl on his lap and the third one was drinking and kissing a girl at the same time.

“Um… Excuse me…” All six pairs of eyes looked at her. She never felt more exposed.

“Are anyone of you Raymond Lam?”

The other two men continued what they are doing and only the third, who is drinking, continued to look at her from top to bottom.

He must be Raymond. He was sitting in a rather relaxing position on the sofa with a girl sitting on one of his lap while his arm is around her.

He smiled at her. “Now what can I do for you?”

“Can we…can we speak privately?”

One of the other man laughed. He smirked.

“Sure.”

She watched as he patted on the girl’s bottom for her to get up.

“Raymond…” The girl whined.

“I’ll be back to finish what we started, Fala.”

That seemed to satisfy the girl.

Raymond led the young lady to one of the private room. He closed the door and settled down on the sofa. He took a look from the tip of her toes to the top of her head, and he like what he saw.

The young lady was dressed in a nice white blouse and a professional knee-length blue skirt, with her hair shoulder length, giving her a youthful and fresh look.

She doesn’t belong here, he thought. Raymond knew the instant he saw her. She was too classy to be here.

Suddenly Raymond have a image of taking off that blouse and skirt, mess up her neatly tied hair, and see what is underneath all that polish and class.

“What? I don’t have all day. Someone is waiting for me.” He smirked again.

Myolie didn’t like the way he was looking at her. She cleared her throat. “I’m here regarding your father.”

Raymond’s smile quickly disappear. “What about him?”

“He is in a critical condition. He asked to see you.”

“Who are you?” He asked coldly.

“I’m Myolie Wu. Your father is my business partner. He really wants to see you.”

“Sorry. Can’t do.” He stood up and walked to the door.

Myolie blocked his path. “Your father is dying. His heart is failing him. He wants to see his son one last time.”

“Tell him he don’t have a son.” He started to move toward the door.

Myolie placed a hand on his chest. “Whatever he had done in the past, he is still your father. This may be your last chance to see him…ever…”

She looked into his eyes and she can swear she saw a moment of pain but quickly it disappear.

“Sorry, I don’t have a father.” He walked away.

“Mr. Lam…” She ran after him and grabbed his arms when she was push back into the wall.

His face was inches from her and she can feel every part of his body. “Back off, Classy. I will never see that man in my life again. You can go tell him, go to hell. I can care less. Stop bothering me or else.” He slammed his fist inches from her head.

He backed off and walked away.

Her heart started pounding again and she didn’t even realize that it stopped. She lifted up her chin and straighten her blouse.

“The name is Myolie, not Classy.” She yelled and walked away.

Raymond smiled as he went back to his group. He settled back down on his original spot before that young lady disturbed her. He looked around and spotted Fala who is dancing and Linda and Joel making out near the backdoor. With a carefree smile, he walked over to Fala.

***

Myolie can’t believe how horrible and cold that man was to his own father…His own Father!!!

Frowning, she threw her purse onto her bed. And he dared to threaten her. What a cruel, and rude man!

Myolie was hanging her coats when there’s a knock on her door. “Come in!”

She smiled at that person.

“What’s troubling you?” Steven asked.

Myolie beamed up at her big brother. “Nothing, just a jerk.”

Steven raised his eyebrow. “Well, if someone upset my little sister, I will stand up for you.”

Myolie leaned over and kissed him on the cheek.

“Thanks. I will be sure to remember that.”

It was 3AM in the morning, Raymond was lying in bed wide awake, thinking about what Myolie said.

He is dying.

That man is dying.

He is not suppose to feel anything for him.

Nothing.

Yet…

He flicked on the light. With a sigh, he opened the drawer and pulled out a cigarette. He was planning to quit but…he lighted it and closed his eyes. He don’t want to think about it. He tried to think of something else and his mind traveled to the classy woman. She doesn’t belong in his world, thought Raymond. Yet, he can’t help but smiled at her attitude. In a way, he admired her courage in coming to him. If in a different time, he might try to woo her but…

“Knock…Knock…” A woman popped her head into his room.

“What’s up?” Raymond inhaled. “It’s quite a surprise to have Miss Linda Chung herself visit me at this hour of the day?” He smiles. “Especially when she actually announce herself is a wonder itself.”

Linda pouted. “I don’t want to barge in when you are pouncing on Fala. Where is she?”

“When have you ever been interested in my sex life anyway?” Raymond said as Linda grabs his cigarette and started smoking. “So what’s up?”

“Awww…You can’t believe the luck I had today.” Linda popped down on his bed. “First off, I caught Joel cheating on me with that slut Angela, so I break it off with him, then I hook up with this Alex dude. Everything is going on fine and I thought he was kind of romantic, giving me a ride on his motorcycle but it turns out… he is such a jerk. He drove me to the park and tried to do me there. I mean what the f*k! If he wants to do me, at least what he can do is afford to go to a hotel!” She inhaled deeply.

Raymond lighted a new cigarette. “I bet he got what he deserved.”

Linda laughed. “Of course. After what I did to him, I doubt he can walk properly for a week.”

Raymond laughed. “That teach him not to mess with our Linda.”

Linda suddenly moved closer to Raymond and he knew that look.

“What do you want?”

Linda smiled sweetly that can daze many men. “Oh, it’s really nothing. I got kick out of my room… so can I stay here for awhile?”

Raymond sighed. “Fine.”

“Thanks, you are the best!” Linda kissed him on the lips and turned to sleep.

“Hey, I’m not finish. We need to set some ground rule.” He putted out the cigarette light.

Linda rolled her eyes. “I know. I know. This is not the first time I stay over. I can’t bring strange men into your apartment and I need to disappear when you have someone over but…” She smiled wickedly. “We can have a foursome…” Raymond ignored her and turned off the light. “What about a threesome???…I never tried that before…”

“Linda, if you don’t be quiet and let me sleep this moment, I will personally kick you out onto the street…”

Linda frowned. “Fine, spoilsport… but you have to answer me one more thing before I let you go back to sleep.”

“What?”

“Who is that woman?”

“What woman?”

“You know who I’m talking about… who is she?”

“No one…”

“But…”

“Linda…”

“Okay…Okay…”

Linda turned away and let Raymond sleep… but knowing Raymond for ten years, she knew something was bothering him. As his only true friend, she will get to the bottom of this.

“I’m sorry, Uncle Damien. I failed you.”

“No…” Damien patted Myolie on her hand. “I expected this.”

Myolie sighed. “He is so rude, Uncle Damien. I’m glad I don’t have to work with him.”

Damien smiled softly. “We can’t blame him, my dear. I left him when he was only five years old.”

“But, Uncle Damien, you don’t know what kind of man he is now… it had been twenty years. The private detective showed me his record, his criminal charges was as thick as an telephone book.”

“It was my fault. If only I didn’t…”

“Uncle Damien, you can’t worry about this right now… you have to rest.” Myolie pulled the blanket over his body.

“Myolie…” Damien coughed softly. “You have to help me. You are my only hope left.” Damien sighed. “I need you to do this for me. Please…”

“But…I don’t think he will listen to me…Furthermore, he is not fit… for what you want him to do.”

Damien shook his head. “I don’t have much time left, Myolie. This is my last wish before…”

“No, don’t say that… You will feel better soon.”

Damien simply smiled. Since his heart attack, he had known that his time was limited. He had lived a fulfilling life, he had settled everything behind him. His wife and daughter will live nicely after he is gone. He have no regret except one…and he hope he can fulfill it before he go…

***

In a shadowy office, a man leaned on his arm chair.

“What have you got?” The man said.

The detective handed him a folder. “She wanted me to investigate someone named Raymond Lam…”

“Lam?” The man questioned.

“Yes.”

“What have you learned?” The man frowned and leaned forward.

“This Raymond Lam is your typical street dude, who earned a living by illegal car racing. He grew up with his mother until she died when he is ten years old. Then he went into the system until he is eighteen. During that time, he committed many minor crime, a juvenile delinquent with your usual theft, drug usage, and drunk driving.”

“So he’s just a nobody. Now my question is why Damien Lau would be interested in a nobody? I know you have the answer.”

The detective smiled. “This Raymond Lam is actually Damien Lau’s son.”

“Son? He never mentioned he had a son.” He frowned.

“What if I tell you that this son was conceived by his first wife, who he abandoned twenty years ago.”

The man laughed. “Damien Lau…Damien Lau…You are going to died soon…now you want your son to take your place… we will see about that…” He took a sip from his wine. In his mind, he is already formulating a plan… a plan that will led to Damien Lau’s total destruction before the old man closed his eyes…but what better way to achieve that than using his own son’s hands to do it.
