“Two million dollars.”

Raymond opened his car door, stepped out and looked at Myolie in front of him. He thought he will never see her again. “Two million dollars for what…”

“Two million dollars for a position.” She said in determination.

“Miss, are you talking in riddles or am I’m dreaming?” Raymond smiled in an irritating manner.

“Fine. I’m representing Mr. Damien Lau to offer you a position as the General Manager of ‘Essence’ with a yearly salary of two million US dollars.”

“Are you kidding me?” Raymond went back into his car. The race was starting soon.

“I’m not kidding.” Myolie poked his head inside his car. “I have the contract with me. All you have to do is sign it.”

“Stop joking. Me! A General Manager!” Raymond started checking his car.

“Mr…” Myolie sighed and got into the car.

Sitting next to him, she pulled out a contract. “Mr. Lam, this is the deal of a lifetime. Although I think Mr. Lau himself must be out of his mind when he convinced me to do this, but I gave him my word. Mr. Lam, you have absolutely nothing to lose. All you have to do is sign here and sit in the office for the day, in a year you will have two million dollars.”

“Hold on tight.” Raymond mumbled.

“What?” Myolie asked when the car started flying.

Raymond laughed as he heard Myolie screaming next to him. Her hair was flying everywhere and her eyes were shut tight. After a while, he kept all his concentration on the road and on the other cars…

I’m going to died, Myolie thought to herself as she watched lines passed in front of her eyes. Everything was blurry and fast, wind are blowing into her face. He was going to kill her, Myolie thought as her life flash before her eyes. She didn’t want to die, yet. She have so much to do, so much to see. Her heart was next to her ears as she closed her eyes tight and waited for the inevitable.

Raymond slow down the car, in the distance he can hear people cheering for him.

Another win. Easy cash.

With a smile, he turned to his left and almost laughed out loud.

Miss Myolie Wu didn’t look so classy or neat. Her hair is covering her eyes and her hands were vibrating while she clanged to the contract in front of her.

“Told you not to bother me again.”

Myolie slowly opened her eyes. “Am I in heaven?”

Raymond laughed. “Not if I’m in it.”

Myolie turned on him quickly. “You arrogant crude man! You almost killed me!” As fast as she can, she pulled open the door and stepped out.

Raymond just smiled and stepped out as well. He watched in amazement as she started fixing her hair.

“I like it mess up better.”

“Arghh! I should have never came here! I knew this is stupid to talk some sense into a man like you but I didn’t know you are suicidal as well. I almost have a heart attack and all because of a moment of weakness, I agree to this ridiculous scheme.” Myolie continued to talked, mostly mumbling to herself.

Raymond walked over to her and took the contract from her hand.

“How stupid do you think I am, classy? The old man is dying. He wants to die in peace so he wants to make up for everything he owe me. Well, I’ll tell you this. Even if I go work for him, I will never ever in my life forgive him… nor will I thank him.” He ripped the contract in half. “He thinks he can finally die in peace by giving me a good job and two million bucks. Tell him, he can forget it. This will never make up for what he did to me and my mother. I want his last day on earth to remember what he did to us and the fact that I hate him.”

Raymond got back into his car and drove away, while Myolie continued to stand there in shock.

“I say go for it.”

Raymond hesitated. He shouldn’t tell Linda about Myolie’s proposal but he can never keep anything from her for long.

“Raymond, you deserve it. He owes you.” Linda said while eating fries in bed.

“I don’t want anything from him. He is not my father.” Raymond exclaimed angrily. “I will never ever take anything from him.”

“But…” Raymond was about to tell her to shut up when Linda stuff his opened mouth with fries. “Hear me out. I know you don’t want anything to do with that old man but think about it. ‘Essence’ is a huge company and you are going to be the GM. Plus you get two million dollars. I think you should take advantage of this opportunity before he is gone for good.” She smiled. “Anyway, you can always take your revenge that way, too. Show them how much you hate him by making his lifework a total disaster. Hmm…” She licked her fingers. “I bet there is going to be a lot of pretty women for you to go for… Imagine a whole building of OL for you.” Linda said with her hand spreading wide to emphasized her point.

Raymond laughed. “And I bet you would want me to get you in as well so you can have a whole building of office men at your disposal?”

“That’s a fabulous idea. I can be your spy.” Linda said with humor. “Or your evil doer…It is going to be so much fun.”

Raymond ignored her as she continued to talk and lean down on his bed. His mind was already set, he don’t ever want to see that man again. No matter how many times the lady is going to bother him, he will not agree to work for that old man.

“What’s the meaning of this?!” Raymond charged into her office.

Myolie smiled with triumph and fold her arms across herself. Her secretary ran in after Raymond. “I’m sorry, Miss Wu, but this man…”

“It’s fine, Lara.” Her secretary nod uncertainly, took one last look at Raymond before she left.

“So…Mr. Lam, what can I do for you?” She smiled.

Raymond growled. “You know what the f*k you did.”

Myolie shrugged, acting innocent.

“Oh, don’t you act all innocent! You have me arrested yesterday for attempted kidnapping and…” He threw a bunch of paper at her. “What the hell is this?”

Myolie continued to smile. “It stated clearly that if you committed any illegal activities, including illegal racing, I will personally prosecute you.”

“Who the hell do you think you are? God?!” Raymond exclaimed in rage.

“No.” Myolie stood up. “I promise a dying man that I will do whatever it takes to make his son sign this contract.” She pulled out a contract from her desk. “Therefore, I am doing whatever in my power to make YOUR life miserable until you sign this.”

Raymond cursed. “You are UNBELIEVEABLE!!!” He shouted. “I will sue you for this!”

Myolie smiled wickedly. “You can tried but I will inform you, you can’t beat me.” Myolie walked over to him. “You see, you make the mistake of threaten a lawyer. I have the entire law enforcement behind me, so if you do anything illegal OR EVEN legal, I can make your life surrounded by police.”

She smiled happily while watching his face turned into a shade of red. Satisfied with her strategy, Myolie turned around to get back to work when Raymond spin her around. She was too shock to do anything when Raymond grabbed both of her arms and pinned her onto the wall. His eyes turned creepy dark as he stared at her. With his mouth only inches away from hers, he breathed literally in her face.

“You think these silly threats and games will scared me?!” He laughed. “You have NO IDEA what you are dealing with…” He slowly let his eyes roam down to her legs and up her torso and slowly back to her face. “You might make my life miserable but I…” He banged her into the wall. One of the picture dropped to the floor and break into millions of pieces. “I can make your life a living nightmare… You don’t know what I’m capable, Miss Wu.”

The secretary rushed in the instant Raymond released her. He slowly walked backward as the secretary called the security.

“So Miss Wu…” He looked dead in her eyes and saw the fear. “You can play with fire but be ready to get burned.” He stared at her a moment longer before he left.

“Miss Wu…Miss Wu…Are you alright?” The secretary asked in concern.

Myolie nodded but once again, it seems like Raymond Lam won. She thought she have the winning hand but it seems like she really doesn’t know what she is dealing with.

“Raymond…Raymond…” She moaned as she felt Raymond lips on her neck.

Something was roaring inside of him. It started after his confrontation with that lawyer. Damn her, he thought. He didn’t need some classy lawyer directing his life and he definitely don’t need a father. He has been fine for the last twenty years without him. Now that he decided to want a son, well… too bad, old man.

Raymond lifted her up from the ground and continued to make out with her face. He tore her tight skirt and allowed his hands to roam her flesh. She panted helplessly and begged shamelessly for him to continued.

Where was he for the last twenty?
Where the hell was he when his mother died because they didn’t have money for the doctor?
Where the f*king hell was he when he was beaten to a bloody plump?
Father?
No way in hell!

Angrily, Raymond threw her across the room. He quickly pulled off his jacket and shirt, unbuttoning his jean, he grabbed both her arms and pinned it above her head. He started kissing her everywhere as she begged helplessly. Raymond was about to answer her pray when someone knock on his door.

“Arghh!!” He growled like an animal. “I’ll kill her.”

“No…” Fala whispered desperately. “Ignore it.”

Raymond ignore Fala and went to the door. He pulled the door open in angry.

“Linda, I’m going to…”

His eyes turned from shock, to disbelieve, and then turn into angry and hatred. He slammed the door shut.

“Raymond?” Fala mumbled. “Come back to bed.”

He ignored her. He can’t believe who is actually at his door. He can hear him knocking on the door again.

“Raymond…? I thought you answer the door?” Fala asked in a dreamily state. “Stop that noise.”

“Get out.”

“What?”

“I said get out!”

Fala popped up from the bed and stared at him in angry. “What the hell is this?”

Raymond grabbed her arms and pushed her out the door. “Get out and tell that old man to get the hell out of my life.”

“Argh!!! This is it, Raymond Lam! I’m tired from being treated like this!” She pushed him away, went to get her purse, and left.

Damien took the advantage and stepped into the room. “Raymond…”

Raymond angrily went into the bathroom and shut the door. Damien slowly walked over to the bathroom leaning heavily on his cane.

“Raymond…” He coughed. “I need to speak to you.”

“I thought you are dead.” He shouted from the other side of the door.

“Raymond, come out. I need to speak with you.”

Second later, Damien heard the water running. He can’t help but smiled at Raymond’s immature behavior. His smile instantly disappear when he realized that it's twenty years. What kind of father left his son for over twenty years and not once did he searched how he was doing? He can never in this lifetime make it up to him. Damien never thought of himself as a good man. He grew up in a village in China where he learned to farm at the age of eight. His whole childhood was spend working on his father’s farmland but he wanted more. Out of his father’s four sons, he was the only one who wanted to go somewhere, the need to accomplished something in his life. He started saving money when he was twelve years old. At eighteen, he planned to leave but his plan took a three hundred sixty degrees changed when Mary told him she was pregnant. Mary is the pretty shy girl from a nearby village and they hanged out a lot during their teens. They married in no time when Mary’s father found out. At that time, he was already eighteen and he had enough money to go to Hong Kong. He went, leaving Mary and his unborn child in the care of his family. In three years, he made a decent enough living to bring Mary and his three years old son but Mary never get used to the life in Hong Kong. She suffer depression and every single day she complained until Damien started ignoring her completely. However, she got worst. She started suspecting there was another woman, she started following him to work and disturbed everyone of his friends and co-workers. They continued fighting to the point that he couldn’t take it any longer. One day, he just left. It didn’t matter how he put it he was a selfish man. He left his wife when life got tough, and left his family without a backward glance at his five years old son. He can’t ask Raymond to forgive him but he need to try and make it up to him…

The doctor had told him, he had six month to a year before his heart will stop permanently. He needed to use these little amount of time to get to know his son. A son he abandoned two decades ago.

“Raymond…I need to talk to you.” The water continued to run. “It’s about Mary.”

The door burst opened as Raymond grabbed his collar angrily. “Don’t you dare say her name? You have no right.”

Damien’s expression softly watching his son’s face. He had his eyes.

“Get out of my place!” Raymond was about to throw him out.

“I have something of Mary’s.” Raymond stopped. “Something that she wanted you to have…”

Raymond frowned. “What kind of bullsh*t are you talking?”

“I have something from Mary, it’s some kind of heirloom of her family. She wanted you to have it.”

Raymond’s eyes narrow. “Why do you have it?”

“She gave it to me before…before I left.”

“Where is it?” He released him.

“Come and work for me, Raymond.”

He laughed. “So this is what it’s all about? Your lawyer can’t get the job done so you made up some bullsh*t story to get me to bend?”

Damien shook his head. “Raymond, I’m dying. I want you to have ‘Essence’. After the contract, ‘Essence’ will be yours.”

“Are you not scared that I will ruin your empire? You know, I’m not exactly your executive type?” He said with humor but Damien can hear the venom in his tone.

“What do you say?” Damien held onto his cane tightly with nerve. “You can have my lifework and I will return what your mother left behind for you.”

“Are you threatening me?” Raymond asked in angry.

Damien smiled and shook his head. “No. I have no right.” He sighed. “I came here, in hope, that a young man would be kind enough to fulfill a dying man’s wish.” Damien looked at his son, he can see he was struggling with a decision.

“Please, Raymond, think about it.” Raymond watched as the old man slowly walked out of his room. He suddenly have a instant flashback of another time where the same back had walked out of his life before, but this time the man’s back was slightly bend and his hand was shaking as he held on to his walking cane. Raymond observed in silence as the old man took huge effort to walk out the door.

When the door closed, he continued to stare in silence.

***

Three weeks later, Raymond stared at the contract that was in his mail since the old man’s visit. With a deep breath, he signed it, knowing that this moment will change his life…forever.
