Leila glares at Ron. “I promise I will not do anything funny. I will be a good boy.” Ron said. In his mind, Ron’s truthful answer is “I will be a good boyfriend, a good lover.” Leila then nods her head, “Fine then.”
“Perhaps spending this night with him can help me stop thinking about the haunting visions. At the same time, I can try to help him whenever possible. Afterall, he still cannot control his powers and temper very well.” Leila thought to herself.
“Let’s go then,” Ron offered his hand for Leila to hold but Leila ignored him and walked forward.
In Flames, there is nothing except for cracked earth, withered plants and the big lonely house which houses all the people of Flames. Ron could only lead Leila along into a more secluded area of Flames.
Both of them then sit down, staring into blank space.
Ron turns to look at Leila. Her eyes are big and shining but without any emotions, her tiny pink lips alluring him to kiss her and her strands of hair covering small parts of her face, adding to the mysterious feeling of this particular lady. “She has suffered much,” Ron thought. “But still, she never shows her emotions. So strong yet fragile,” Ron could not stop thinking about Leila. Ron deeply knows how deep his love runs for Leila.
“Leila,” Ron calls out gently. Leila turns to face him.
“Do you think I will die tomorrow?” Ron asks solemnly.
“No.” Leila gives a determined one-word answer.
“Why?”
“Because your inner strength and powers are parallel with that of the Demonic Red Stone. Both possesses tremendous amount of heat and are able to give off that much of heat too. Furthermore, with your rash personality, it only shows more about the fiery powers you have. Don’t worry, you will not die. At the most, I think you will just become another Demonic Red Stone in one way or another,” Leila answers seriously.
“I rather die then.” Ron replies nonchalantly.
“Why?”
“I rather not harm any of these people on Flames. Their lives are sad enough, with such horrible and harsh treatment they received just because of that stupid Demonic Red Stone! It just does not make sense! How can their king who is their leader and who is supposed to take care of the people’s well-being restrict them and torture them like this? Just because the idiotic tyrant king wants to reign Flames forever? That’s rubbish!”
Unknowingly, Leila smiles at the sight of this hot-tempered Ron, with all his flaring words being spitted out of his mouth.
“Look from another perspective. This king is just like our Elders. They are willing to sacrifice other people for their own benefits. Face up to this reality that some people are very selfish and inconsiderate. This is one vicious cycle that can never be stopped, but can be minimised. One way to minimise such irritating and disgusting selfishness is not to be one selfish person yourself. Help whenever you can, which is what you are doing and going to do, always.” Leila says out her heartfelt words. She has always been trying to treat people distantly as she is afraid that she will have too much feelings involved with another party. “If this happens, everyone is bound to get hurt one day.” Leila thought pessimistically. “I am such an evil person. I will only bring harm to people who treat me well.”
Leila shut her eyes to prevent her tears from falling. She cannot cry now, or any other time. She has to be strong. Then she felt him close and she opens her eyes.
“You’re always that considerate, aren’t you? This is one reason I like about you. Always being helpful to others, but, has you thought about being nicer to yourself? Revealing more about yourself doesn’t hurt that much, right? You’re a human with extraordinary powers. You help others but you should help yourself too. It doesn’t do much good if you keep everything to yourself, Leila. I am here for you,” Ron confesses once more, as he could sense the deep grief in Leila.
Leila blinks as Ron’s face is less than a few inches from her. His fiery eyes are looking right straight into her cold expressionless eyes. She could sense the gentle tenderness that he has from her from his eyes. His words are echoing in her ears and she is speechless. She does not know Ron has made such deep observations and understanding about her.
“Leila, I love you. No matter what happens tomorrow, I just want you to know that I love you.”
Leila could feel something tugging at her heartstrings. Ron had grown more mature and she has feelings. Leila realises that this man in front of her has silently changes her and has made a difference in her life. Ron then presses his lips against Leila’s.
Ron has managed to evoke feelings in Leila.
To his utmost surprise, Leila’s lips moves slightly and their kiss gradually becomes deeper.
Tonight, Ron made Leila understand one new thing called affection.
“I can’t say I love you but I do have some feelings for you.” Leila whispers to Ron.
“That’s more than enough.” Ron answers sweetly as the two of them embrace each other warmly.
The next big day arrives as the people of Flames lead Ron to another small hidden passage way hidden beneath the withered trees and flowers.
“From now on, you’re on your own.” The Elder said to Ron. Ron nods his head and braces himself as he turns back to have one last look at Leila.
“I will wait for you to bring back the good news of the Demonic Red Stone being destroyed.” Leila had said last night.
Such words from Leila are strength to Ron and he is ready. He covers his eyes with his hands and allows his legs to be pulled downwards by the entangled roots of the trees.
The roots intertwine with his legs and soon Ron fell into a deep slumber as he is being pulled into a magical world under Flames. A place which no one even knows or dares to try to step into.
The Furnace.
Despite being in deep slumber, Ron can easily feel the intensifying heat as he gets closer and closer to his unknown destination. His shirt has been burnt off already and his pants have been burnt to shorts as well. Amazingly, he has not suffered any scalding.
The Furnace is the zone where the previous king has practiced and discovered his own powers. It is also where he came up with the Demonic Red Stone which is actually storage of the sinister side of his powers. The king’s coffin is placed in this zone such that no one can ever come up close to destroy his corpse or his beloved Demonic Red Stone.
Ron then feels a strong resisting force, pushing him away from his unknown destination. He is awakened by such a force. The heat had become intolerable, to him. He then recalls Crimson’s words, “Metres away from it, one will already be lying on the ground, minutes away from death. Its heat is rumoured to obliterate anyone, anything.”
Ron is lucky and strong enough to endure through the whole journey of the intensifying heat. “This must be the final stage to it,” Ron thought as his shorts are burning. He then tore his shorts and summons his inner strength and powers.
He shut his eyes as he feels the overwhelming surge of heat flows through his body. This was something he has never experienced.
The heat within his body and the intolerable heat from his surroundings seem to combine together, balancing each other. Gradually, the heat from the surroundings seems to be absorbed or have seeped into Ron’s body.
The only thing was that a part of Ron’s body felt hot and stingy.
His birthmark.
“The birthmark must have been the link between the two powers from my body and the outside.” Ron murmured to himself.
The excruciating heat has diminished and as his sight becomes clearer, he can see the large red coffin standing in front of him.
It was magnificent.
The large red coffin was also giving off heat but of a smaller amount. The design of it was that it seems to be translucent as Ron could make out something bright red and glittering inside the coffin.
Not only that, Ron can make out the outline of a body within it as well. The exterior edges running along all sides of the coffin are designed and craved beautifully in the shapes of Ron’s birthmark. Ron is absolutely stunned as he touches his birthmark, which is still stinging his body. The red colour of the coffin is rare and one of a kind. Not the colour of the blood of the normal people, or the maroon red or any other shades of red ever seen.
Ron’s instincts tell him to bite his finger and he did so. He bit his finger that hard till a drop of blood drips out, onto the coffin. The red was a perfect match. Ron watches in astonishment as his blood gradually spreads and covers the coffin. The sight turns horrendous as Ron notices the dripping slimy red liquid onto the ground.
The coffin is shaking.
