Chapter 7

Has Fate Really Brought Us Together?

"Well, the graves are done... now what's next?" Gwen asked as she piled the last grave up with dirt and wiped off her sweat with her right hand.

"Well... Let's go to the next village then... Since there's nothing much to see here..." Zack replied looking at the grave in front of him.

"Yeah... Then... Let's go then..." Gwen replied also looking at the same grave Zack was looking at.

"Thank you so much... We really appreciate your help..." One of the villager women said smiling.

"No prob... Anytime... I think..." Zack replied smiling back.

"Ok... Well then... Bye... It was nice seeing you people!!" Gwen replied following after Zack who had already started walking away from the village and waving good-bye back at them.

Gwen sighed and said to Zack "I wonder... Will we see this in every village we go?"

"I hope not... I hate to see innocent people die..." Zack replied as the thought of his parents came into mind.

They walked for a few hours. Three, to be exact. "Phew... It gonna be a year before we get to the next village..." Gwen moaned as she walked panting behind Zack.

"I don't think we'll take that long... In fact, we've reached already." Zack then replied as he walked into the village.

"Wow!! It looks a little different from Sakisawa!! There're more fields!! More people!! MOre of everything!!" Gwen said happily.

"But... I realised that most people are looking at US the moment we entered..." Zack said to Gwen as she was looking around restlessly.

She stopped "Now that you said it... You're kinda right..."

"AHH!!! GHOSTS!! RUN!!!" Then one of the man ran about shouted.

Then, the whole town started panicking and running amok. "Did they say... Ghosts?" Gwen then asked confused.

Then a boy knocked right into Zack. The boy fell onto the ground and looked at Zack, his eyes were filled with fear. "Ahh!!! Get away!!" and he started chanting holding prayer beads in one hand as he sat down and started chanting, his eyes shut tightly with fear.

Zack kneeled down in front of him and smiled in order to try to comfort the trembling boy, "We're not ghosts!! See... If I'm a ghost, how am I able to touch you?" he said while patting the boy's head.

The boy opened his eyes and touched Zack's hand in order to assure himself "You're not a ghost?"

"No, silly." Zack then ruffled the little boy's hair still smiling.

The boy heived a sigh of relief and smiled. "Then... what are you doing in our humble village?" The lady of the boy asked.

"Well... we wanted to find a place to rest... And we found this village." Gwen explained.

"Oh... You can stay at my house!" The lady smiled.

"Really? Thank you so... much!!" Gwen replied cheerfully.

When they went into the lady's house, they lady served them tea. "How may we address you?" Gwen asked after taking a sip of the green tea.

"Call me Akiko." The lady replied.

"You two look like the two lovers in our legendary love story..." Akiko said looking at them.

"Really? Tell us about it then." Gwen said eager to listen.

"It happened about sixty years ago... when our governor was a young girl... Now she's around seventy years old... She told us this story...." Akiko started.

"It was about a teenage girl... She was named Ayame... At the young age of fourteen, she started to fall in love with a guy named Kenji... Unfortunately, he broke her heart in a very cruel manner... He ran off... with another girl... From that day on, she didn't want to believe anyone because she was afraid that she might get cheated again... She didn't want her heart to get broken again... Not until one day, she met a guy... He was called Tanjiro... He fell in love with her. But, she didn't want to accept his love. She asked him whether he would cheat her... He said that he would never cheat for the rest of his life... They spent their lifes with each other for a few months. When they were about to get married, a man tried to kill Ayame with an arrow and Tanjiro sacrificed himself for her. Not long after, Ayame went to drown herself in a river." Akiko took a deep breath after finishing her story.

"Such a sad story..." Gwen then commented.

"And you say we look like the couple?" Zack then asked.

"Yes... A splitting image... besides the weird outfits of yours of course." Akiko replied looking at their outfits with an amused look on a face.

"Well that's a very entertaining story. Thank you very much." Zack then said smiling.

"You don't believe me?" Akiko asked.

"No... I don't believe very much in this type of fate thingy." Zack explained.

"Very well then. It's up to you." Akiko replied.

"Well, stay here for the night then." Akiko then continued as she went to prepare dinner.

"Do you believe it, Gwen?" Zack then asked Gwen who was looking into space.

"Well... I'm not very sure... There's no prove that it's fake neither is there prove that it's real... So I have no comment." Gwen then replied smiling at him.

"Well.. I gonna go out for some fresh air." Zack replied as he stood up and went outside.
