Chapter 8

The two lovers...

"Hey!! Zack!!" Gwen shouted to him as he was walking towards the river.

He turned back and saw Gwen running towards him he stood there and waited.

When Gwen finally ran towards him she smiled and said "Hey, Zack... Do you know... That river you're walking towards to, was where Ayame killed herself?"

"Oh really?" Zack replied and continued walking.

"Yeah. Akiko said that once in a while you'll see Tanjiro and Ayame floating across the river holding each other's hands." Gwen explained while walking beside him.

"Yeah, right... And if we're lucky we'll be able to see it... And you believe that?" Zack replied and sat down near the river on a grass field.

"Why don't you believe in this type of things, but you believe that you are a clone?" Gwen asked as she sat beside him.

"A dying man doesn't lie, Gwen. My dad told me before he died... So it must be true... And he never lies to me." Zack replied as he lied down on his back and looked above at the blanket of stars and a full moon.

"I'm sorry..." Gwen replied softly.

"It's okay. I didn't tell you about it anyway." Zack replied still looking at the stars.

Gwen also lied down and said "Do you like stars, Zack?" as she closed her eyes.

"My mum also died... She was suffering from cancer... It was the last stage... Before she died... She said that she always be watching over me in the heavens... I was very young then... So I did not quite understand what she meant. After that she passed away in peace..." Gwen said and she opened her eyes again.

"Oh... So we almost have the same thing that happened to our parents... Both of them died..." Zack said looking at her.

"Yeah..." Gwen replied also looking at him.

Their faces were only a few inches apart. But, Zack suddenly sat up and said "Erm... Well... I think we should go back now..."

"Yeah... It's getting kinda late." Gwen smiled and sat up.

When they were leaving, Gwen thought she caught a glimpse of a girl at the river who looked so much like her. "Ayame? Nah, maybe it's just my imagination." She then continued walking back to the village.
