Erika fell to the ground and pleaded as tears flowed continuously down her cheeks. She looked at Kame with pain in her eyes. "Please don't hurt my father!" she cried.
Kame shut his eyes in agony, it felt as though a thousand knives stabbed into his heart as he saw Erika crying. He thought she was only a tool at the beginning to fulfil his bigger duty, but somehow in the process, he couldn't stop himself from falling in love with the girl in front of him. Why did she have to be the daughter of Kuma Toda. He bent down slowly and held her gently in his arms. This girl was the one he wanted to protect with his life.
Erika sobbed uncontrollably in his arms. She raised her head to look at him, "It's what you owed me, you can't hurt my father." Other than pain, her eyes were filled with determination.
Kame knew he had a duty to fulfil, but in front of Erika's tears he felt helpless. Despite her fragile appearance, Erika was a strong-willed girl, this was the first he ever saw her pleading anyone. "I promise I won't hurt your father."
For the first time in months, after he told her his true identity, she smiled. But almost immediately, her eyes widened in fear as she saw the person behind Kame.
"NO!" she screamed. She pushed Kame away as the person fired at Kame. Blood soaked her shirt, her face looked much paler in contrast. Her body went limp and she crumbled to the ground.
"Erika!" the person who fired shouted. He rushed to Erika side and picked her soft body off the ground.
Erika opened her mouth as if trying to speak but she started choking on her blood that was coming up her throat. She clutched the shirt of the man holding her tightly. "Shh Honey, I'll take you to the hospital now." Kuma Toda lifted his beloved daughter in his arms.
Erika turned her head slightly to Kame as he sat dazed on the floor. "You promised," she mouthed the words to him. Then her hands fell limp and she closed her eyes, going into an eternal slumber.
Kame felt as if he died along with her.

Kame sat up in the couch as perspiration rolled down the sides of his face. He looked around his room as if in search of her. Then he saw Maki sound asleep on the bed. He had told her that he would be sleeping on the couch. He shut his eyes at the memory of Erika. If he hadn't met her, or if she wasn't the daughter of Kuma Toda perhaps he would have married her and have their own children. But now, he was forced into a marriage where he did not even know the girl. He knew that his father was behind all this but somehow he could not help but to blame Maki a little. Why did she not refuse this arrangement? And he couldn't help but blame her because the first time he saw her, he thought Erika was back. And he couldn't let any other girl replace Erika, it felt as though she was threatening Erika's position.
