Suddenly she heard rustling sounds beside her, then a voice spoke, "You're awake?"
Maki tried to register that voice. It was distant but familiar."Kame?" she muttered, "Where am I?" she asked.
"You're at the hospital. Hang on, I'll get the doctor." Maki heard the rushed footsteps as Kame dashed out of the room.
Was he the one who saved her? She couldn't help but wonder. But if that is so, why did he leave her hands when he was just beside her. But if he was not the one who saved her, who could have?"
---------------
The doctor walked out of the room after conducting a series of checks on Maki. Kame rushed up to him and asked, "So, Jin, how is she?"
"It seems that she has lost her eyesight. We still do not know if it is temporary or permanent. She will have to undergo further testing, everything must wait till her Xray result is out." Jin replied. He placed a hand on Kame's shoulder and spoke in a grave tone, "I heard she's your cousin, please prepare for the worst. And be careful when you break the news to her, she might still be traumatized after the whole incident." Jin looked over Kame's shoulder and said, "Ayase's here, she was quite worried when you suddenly rushed out of the hospital." Jin patted Kame a few time before turning to leave.
"Kame!" Ayase called, "I called your house and heard from your mum that you are at the hospital because your cousin got into an accident. How's she?" Ayase asked, concerned.
"She's lost her sight, but everything still have to wait till the Xray is out." Kame answered.
"I'm sure she'll be fine," Ayase tried to console Kame. "Are you alright?"
"Yea, I just don't know how to break the news to her." Kame told Ayase what he was most concerned about now.
Ayase sighed, this could be difficult.

Both Kame and Ayase entered Maki's room. Maki was lying down on the bed. Her face paler than before and her hands were clutching the sides of the bed as if trying to find comfort in them. Maki heard the door open and the shuffling of footsteps.
"Who's there?" she asked.
"It me, Kame. Ayase is also here." Kame replied.
"Domo," Maki greeted Ayase. Under the cool facade, she had a burning question to ask. "There's something wrong with me, isn't there?" she asked.
The room remained silent. No one knew how to answer that simple question.
"I've not been able to see a single thing since I woke up. Am I... blind?" Maki continued, fearful of the answer she was going to get.
"We are still unsure of whether it would be permanent or not, there's still hope that you would regain your eyesight." Kame replied, careful with his words.
"I see..." Maki nodded at Kame's reply. Both Kame and Ayase heaved a sigh of relief after Kame had finally told Maki about her condition. But something else was tugging at Kame's heart. Maki's reaction was mild, far too mild.
The room suddenly fell into a stifling silence.
