Maki glanced over to Pi and found him staring intently at her. Then she quickly shifted her sight, allowing it to land on Kame.
Shun smiled and continued, "I hope you won't mind, Kame."
Kame nodded and answered as any gentlemen would, "Sure."
Maki placed her hands on Shun's extended one as he led her towards the dance floor, beginning the Maki's second dance of the night.
"Don't mind me for being too truthful, but it seems that you are still quite uncomfortable around Kame. It's odd thinking that both of you are husband and wife," Shun said.
"Ohh..." Maki didn't know how she should respond to this stranger. From how the three of them interacted back there, Shun was neither in Kame's nor Pi's league.
"How much do you know about Kame?" Shun pressed on. "Did you know his story 6 years ago?"
Maki looked up at Shun curiously. She had always thought Kame was a mystery, it seemed that he was hiding something, the whole household was hiding something. Given Kame's quality, he could find a girl he likes and get married instead of allowing Tetsu to pick a random girl like her.
"Seems like you hadn't heard it. 6 years ago, Kame met a girl he liked. At that time, he wasn't a doctor but Tetsu's assistant and future heir to the organization. But something happened between him and that girl that made him unable to accept anyone else. Because of her, he left the organization." Shun told Maki. "That was why I found it odd when I learnt that he was marrying you. Seems like you are a special girl."
"What happened to her? The girl Kame liked." Maki let her guard down momentarily as curiosity got the better of her.
"She died," Shun replied, emotionless. He looked over to where Kame and Yamapi were standing. They were staring back at them. Shun smiled and in a sudden movement, brought Maki closer to him as he rested his face beside her ears and whispered, "Does that bother you? Or maybe, there is someone else in your heart."
Maki shifted uncomfortably in Shun's arms. She applied pressure on him to push him further away. "Mister, I suppose I have not met you before, isn't it a little impolite to be saying such things." it was more of a statement than a question.

Yamapi tensed as he saw Shun pulling Maki into such an intimate position. "Let's dance," he said in a low tone as he pulled Yui onto the dancefloor. Yui was pleasantly surprised at Pi's sudden "invitation", but those feelings didn't last long. Pi guided Yui swiftly across the dance floor, closing in on Maki and Shun.
Finally both couples were dancing alongside each other. "Do you mind if we exchanged partners." Pi said in an almost demanding tone.
Shun raised his eyebrows as if he just saw something entertaining. He gave a knowing smile and replied, "Sure."
Pi immediately let go of Yui, lightly pushing her towards Shun as he pulled Maki into his arms and guided her away from a slightly disappointed Yui and a highly amused Shun.

"You have been avoiding me since that day," Yamapi stated it as a fact, not giving Maki a chance to refute. He gazed upon her intently as if expecting some sort of explanation that never came. "Did I make you uncomfortable?" Pi continued.
Maki shook her head slowly, still not returning Pi's gaze.
"Then why?" Pi asked.
Maki didn't know why either. She is happy around him, but her feelings just seem so wrong. She can't control her heart from racing in front of him and she knew it was all wrong. They should have remained just as friends, good friends who stood by each other. They really should. But somehow along the way, they strayed from friends to something quite ambiguous. Something lost between friendship, reliance, kinship and... love.
"You never told me you were working for Tetsu," Maki said simply, avoiding his question.
"That's the reason?" Yamapi asked, slightly confused.
"It's just... we can't be truthful with each other anymore..."
Yamapi stopped dancing. He still held Maki in his arms but his feet stopped in it's tracks. Both of them stood in the middle of the ballroom. Maki finally returned Pi's gaze as they stared into each other's eyes. Neither saying anything for a long time. "Do you hate me now?" Pi said almost in a whisper.
