Chapter 3

Real Deal

There was no lavish wedding, their marriage was only announced on the day of their annual gang dinner. Maki became the daughter-in-law of Tetsu, one of the most influential mafia gang leader. But this was only known within Tetsu's gang.

-----

"Old man! What are you thinking!" Kame could not help but to raise his voice at the outrageous deed of his father. Right after the annual dinner, Tetsu had requested to see both Kame and Maki. It had been a torture sitting through the whole dinner after his marriage was announced. However, Kame was clear that he should still show due respect to his father in front of the whole gang no matter how huge the fire was burning inside of him.

"We have already discussed this before and I want to hear no further of your grouches. It has been announced and it will stay that way, until you fulfill your part of the deal." Tetsu replied calmly despite his son's outrage.

Kame turned to walk out of the room. Tetsu did not attempt to stop him. He knew the temper of his son, this was not a good time to discuss this issue further, Kame needed some time to calm down. More importantly, he was going to make a matter clear to Maki.

"I've arranged a place for you in the law school. It wasn't much of a problem, your grades had been excellent so far. When you're ready, you can attend school anytime. After you graduate, you will be our organisation's lawyer." Tetsu told Maki.

"I'll have to decline your offer. I do not wish to help your organisation." Maki said.

"I'm just keeping my part of the deal, whether you want to take it up or not is none of my concern." There was no need to force her to be his organisation's lawyer, if she did it reluctantly, there was a huge possibility that she may turn her back on him one day. He does not need anymore backstabbers at the moment. "However, I have to remind you to keep your part of the deal."

Maki looked straight into his eye. "I've already done so, haven't I? If I am not dreaming tonight, you have already announce the marriage to your gang."

"Yes, of course, you're my daughter-in-law now. But what I meant was that you have to fulfill your duties as my daughter-in-law. And the most important duty of a daughter-in-law is to bear a grandson."

Maki expected that coming, but was not prepared for it. Bearing a child for someone she did not even know, that was too much for anyone to take. And if she was not wrong, her husband did not approve of that either. If not, he would not have stormed out of the room earlier.

"That is not only up to me."

"Yes, so you would have to try to involve my son, wouldn't you? Kame is a little stubborn, but I know him too well, he is soft towards girls. Your part of the deal would include making him acknowledge this marriage and bear a grandson for me. I believe I have made myself very clear, you may leave the room now."

Maki was too tired to think anymore. Just 2 weeks ago, she thought after her father had disappeared for almost a year, she could finally settle in comfortably to a life without him. Then he barged in suddenly to pull her out of her comfort zone, landing her in a foreign place. One she had never dreamt of getting involved with. She left the room quietly, today was too much for her to take. Everything can wait till tomorrow.

What she did not know was that, her first love was going to be with her brother-in-law.
