Chapter 31

Final Task?

A few weeks had passed since then. Pi tried his best to waive his frustrations by drowning himself in work. Work he did not like, work he hated. Night after night, he laughed coldly at how outrageous his situation was, at how outrageous he was. Fancy him trying to forget someone he loved by doing things he hated.

“When are you going to let her go?” Pi was once again in Tetsu’s study room.

Tetsu had regained that mechanic expression. Cold and hard. “Have you come to you senses?”

“When are you going to let her go?” Pi repeated, his voice harder now. He was changing, unknowingly, into someone increasingly suited for the organization.

Tetsu realized he could no longer drag this matter along. “After you find out who’s the insider.”

Pi turned to exit the room. That was all he could do now. He had to suppress his desire for Maki, saving her was everything he had on his mind right now.

----------------------
He took out his cellphone and pressed a few numbers. He did not wait long before the other person picked up his cellphone “Aniki,” came the voice from the other end of the phone. He had built up his gang of loyal subordinates over the last few assignments.

“Help me find Shimazaki’s information,” Pi ordered. Shimazaki was a part of Kuma’s gang. He was a person in charge of accounts matters in the gang, Kuma’s right-hand man. But it seems that he had been dealing with shares with a large amount of money Pi could only guess was from Kuma’s account.

Next he pressed another set of numbers on his cellphone again, a man from the other side of the phone spoke, “Shiraishi speaking.”

“Uncle Shiraishi, this is Yamashita Tomohisa. We met at the banquet. I need your help.”

----------------------

Kame waited impatiently for a call. Finally the phone rang. “We found the person. His name is Tanaka Koki.”

Tanaka Koki… that name rings a bell. Kame thought hard and finally he realized Koki was Shun’s assistant.

“Shun Oguri…” he muttered under his breath, “What have you done.”

“Will you be able to find out what was the conversation about?” Kame spoke into the phone.

“I don’t have much confidence. But I can try.”

“Thanks. I owe you one.”

-----------------------

Shimazaki stared at the computer screen before him, smiling as the numbers jumped rapidly up. It was going to be a sweet victory, he was going to be millions richer in just one night.

Just as he was confident of his winnings, the numbers slide rapidly down. It went down faster than it went up. Shimazaki picked up the phone and called his broker. “Sell all my shares immediately.”

“But I’m afraid, I can’t sell it out that fast, everyone’s selling and there’s no ready buyers…”

“I don’t care what you do, just sell it out as fast as you can.” Shimazaki slammed the phone down as he turned his eyes back onto the computer screen as the numbers continued to slide.

-----------------------

“Thanks, Uncle Shiraishi” Pi smiled victoriously at the numbers before him.

-----------------------

Shimazaki slammed his computer towards the door. He was in serious trouble. Instead of getting millions overnight, he had fell deep in debt of millions overnight. What’s worst was he was unable to return the money he had taken from the gang.

A knock came on the door. Shimazaki gathered himself together as he answered the door. Behind the door was a stranger.

“Who are you?” he asked.

“Someone who can help you.” That person answered. He motioned for some people behind him to enter the room as they set down a row of briefcases.

The person walked to one of them and opened it, revealing rows of cash. “All this can be yours,” the person said.

“Who are you?” Shimazaki asked again. “I want a name.”

“Yamashita Tomohisa.”

“And what do you want in return?”

“The insider’s information.”

“What are you talking about.”

“Kuma must have planted an insider in our organization and I won’t accept a denial.” Pi turned to face Shimazaki, staring straight at his eyes. “Who is he, the insider.”

“And what makes you think I’ll betray the organization?”

“Because it concerns your life.” Pi said simply. “It’s a gamble. Do you want to die when Kuma finds out that you embezzled his money, or do you want to gamble whether he will find out you were the one who sold his insider’s information. In any case, I would say that the probability of the latter is lower.”
