Chapter 33

Fury unleashed

Shun walked up the staircase towards Tetsu’s study room. Not that this was the first time, but today’s meeting seem a little out of norms. Firstly, Tetsu never calls him directly and today he did. Secondly, Tetsu called him instructing him to come by himself and only himself. Usually, there’s an unwritten rule that no one should follow but today, Tetsu had made special reinforcements to that unwritten rule.

Kame leaned against the railings at the top of the stairs, barely turning his head as Shun passed by.

“It seems like your choice to leave the organization is right. You look really free” Shun said with a smirk.

“It was what you wanted, wasn’t it?” Kame remarked coldly.

Shun shrugged and continued making his way towards Tetsu’s study room.

----------------------
As Shun entered the room, he found Tetsu sitting behind his high-chair, as usual. What was unusual was his monitor was facing outwards instead of in. Tetsu never said a word on Shun’s arrival, and Shun supposed Tetsu wanted him to see whatever was on the monitor. He inched closer until he finally saw a photo of himself. Quite different from how he looked like now, but undoubtedly, that was him.

“You found out?” he said coolly. “The particulars are quite thorough.”

“You’re Kuma’s mole.”

“Was,” Shun corrected. “I’m long past that stage and I’m sure you witnessed it.”

“You’re her son.”

“It doesn’t matter. I haven’t seen her since I was 4. My memories of her are so infinitesimal, I only know her name and nothing else.”
-------------------------
“We managed to retrieve a part of the conversation.”

“And what is it?” Kame asked.

“Kame’s going to kill your father tonight.”

It didn’t take long for Kame to figure out the rest of the conversation. Location and timing. He hung up on the other party without saying anything and walked towards his room. He reached out for the drawer which handles creaked when touched for he had not laid a finger on it for at least 6 years. The drawer slid clumsily open and in it laid a gun, dusty from not moving an inch for the past 6 years. He pulled off the lock and everything fell into place, as how it had served him before.
-----------------------
Maki saw Kame walking across towards Tetsu’s room. And in his hands was undoubtedly, a gun. She widened her eyes at the sight.

Kame barged into Tetsu’s room, raising the gun to level with Shun heart. He was a good shooter and this distance didn’t require his skills to hit home.

Shun was unaffected by Kame’s sudden entry. “So this is your plan? To kill me? If so, I might have overestimated you Tetsu. If you’re too old to analyze the consequences, let me do the honor for you. While you are getting old and sitting comfortably in your high chair, I am out there fighting alongside with my brothers. Who do you think has a higher place in their hearts? Sure, you may have the infallible reputation. But seriously, do you think that counts in the younger members? The last time I counted, the younger members in this organization is comparable to the older ones. And the last time I counted, was a few years back. You’re getting old, Tetsu” Shun walked over to Tetsu’s table and leaned in, staring straight into Tetsu’s eyes. “And you know it, I can see it in your eyes.” Shun then retreated and started laughing. A slight amusement twinkled in the corner of his eyes.

“And you think I cared about the organization?” Kame asked in a cold tone. “You failed to realize something, Shun. Above all the pretty talk, you’ll be dead once I pull the trigger, and that’s the end for you. 6 years ago, it was your plot, wasn’t it? Erika’s death.”

It was then Shun realized what Kame was here for. “Whatever I say won’t change anything, I didn’t intend for her to die.”

Kame started applying pressure on the trigger when Maki burst into the room. She was panting slightly from running up the stairs, and she couldn’t believe the scene laid out before her.

“Don’t!” she shouted and used her body as a shield between Kame’s gun and Shun.

“Get away,” Kame said in a low voice, trying very hard not to explode. “He was responsible for Erika’s death.”

Maki shook her head vigorously even though she was evidently shocked at the revelation. “She wouldn’t have wanted you to do this either. Please, don’t…” she pleaded.

Kame turned his eyes filled with hatred away from Shun face to Maki’s and he saw her determination. Something about her made him hesitate. Then he realized, those were the same eyes he saw before Erika died. The same eyes when Erika pleaded with him not to hurt her father. Kame lost himself, he started screaming like a trapped animal, trapped the day he fell in love with Erika. For the first time in 6 years, he let his emotions flow, he wanted to scream out his frustrations, his regret and his… pain. Then he started laughing hysterically. For a moment, Maki thought he had gone mad. Until he stopped abruptly and once again raised his gun, this time to level with Maki’s eyes.

“Don’t show me those eyes… you will only remind me of Erika and how she died. Today, Shun must die. If you try to stop me, you will too.”
