Chapter 36

Is this Jealousy?

“I’ve decided to leave the organization,” Pi told Tetsu. He did not want Maki to cry because of him anymore.

“You don’t care about Maki now?” Tetsu asked, in an almost challenging tone.

“Precisely because I care, I have to leave.”

The lines between Tetsu’s brows deepened. He did not understand what Pi was thinking now.

“And you’re going to leave all your brothers behind?” Tetsu referred to those who sworn their loyalties to Pi.

“Indeed, I have gone against them. But Shun can take over, can’t he?”

Tetsu slammed his fist on the table. The pupils in his eyes dilated. He looked infuriated at the mention of Shun’s name.

“The organization belonged to him to begin with.” Pi continued, ignoring Tetsu’s fury.

Tetsu’s veins are now pulsating on his temples. “It doesn’t. His father owed me. He took away the woman I wanted.”

“Wasn’t it more of the other way round?” Pi smirked.

Tetsu fist was clenched so tight, his knuckles were turning white. His body started shaking uncontrollably.

“She was mine to begin with,” Tetsu raised his voice. This was the first time Pi ever saw him lose his cool.

“But am I not the best evidence that she came back to you?”

“What’s the use if her heart’s not on me,” said Tetsu in barely a whisper. “But if I can’t get her, neither could he. And now his son is back to take this back. No way will I let that happen.” Tetsu turned to face Pi, “I will not let you leave this organization.”

“Try me,” Pi threw down his last words before turning swiftly towards the door as he stormed out, slamming the door behind him.

As he was walking towards his room, he met Mariko and Yui. Mariko seemed to be furious at something. Mariko raised her hands and allowed it to swipe across Yui face. Pi’s eyes widened at the sight. He strode quickly over and grabbed hold of Mariko wrist as she raised it to slap Yui again.

“Let go of me you filty b*****d,” she screamed.

“What had she done to receive such abuse,” Pi demanded.

“I washed her clothes together with yours as Hana was busy,” said Yui in a small voice. Hana was Mariko’s personal maid. Mariko was angry not at Yui, but at the fact that she was Pi’s personal maid. She couldn’t vent her frustrations from last night on Pi, so she picked on Yui instead.

“Just because of that?” asked Pi incredulously. He didn’t wait for an answer. Instead he released his grip on Mariko and pulled Yui away.

“Burn those clothings!” they could hear Mariko’s shrieks from far away.

Yui eyes fixed on Pi’s hands holding on to hers. Her heart started to race. This was the 2nd time he saved her, like prince charming. Her gaze followed up his hands to land on his face and she couldn’t help but smile, her eyes twinkling.

After Pi ensured that they were a safe distance away from Mariko’s verbal abuse, he released Yui’s hand and turned to face her. “Are you okay?” he asked.

“Hai!” Yui replied, glad that he was concerned.

“That’s good… By the way, do you happen to know where Maki went? I couldn’t find her anywhere in the house.”

“She left the house early in the morning. She didn’t actually say where she went, but I she went to find Kame. She was asking for him this morning.”

“Kame?” Pi felt his heart skipped a beat. He looked out at the sun setting in a distance. She’d been out for the whole day. He found himself thinking about where she had went, what had she done and of all he felt really terrible inside knowing that she was out looking for someone else.
-------------------------
Kame’s car drove through the gate right to the car porch at the doorstep of the mansion. Night had fallen and other than the lights sifting through the glass windows on the second floor, the area was completely dark. Maki had fallen asleep, traveling always made her sleepy. Kame reached out his hand to tap her awake but paused just as he was about to touch her. He retrieved his hands and allowed his gaze to land her sleeping face. He wondered how she had reminded him of Erika when she first came. When he could finally observe her features, she looked nothing like Erika but the feeling she gave him on first sight was strangely similar to that when he met Erika at the party.

Kame tore his gaze away from Maki and exited the car. He walked over to the other side to open Maki’s side of the door and slid his right hand carefully behind Maki’s neck and his other under her knees. He carried her off the car seat and slowly with her in his arms he pulled out of the car door, closing the door behind him with leg. As he walked up the steps towards the main door, someone walked out of the shadows and blocked his path. It was Pi. Pi stared straight into Kame’s eyes; his eyes flashed a sign of challenge. Pi looked down at the sleeping Maki in Kame’s arms.

“Put her down,” Pi said through gritted teeth.

“I don’t have time for your nonsense,” Kame retorted as he tried to get past Pi.

Pi raised out his hands to block him. Kame breathed out in annoyance.

“If my hands weren’t occupied, you would have been beaten into a pulp already.” Kame returned Pi’s stare.

“If you didn’t have her in your hands, you can be sure you’re going to lose your teeth,” as soon as those words came out of his mouth, Pi realized how contradicting it was. It was precisely because Maki was in Kame’s arms that he wants to beat the hell out of him now. But this wasn’t the time to bother about such things now. “Put her down,” he repeated.

Kame rolled his eyes, “Can’t you see she’s sleeping?” he said as a matter-of-fact. “And do you even know what you’re doing now? What business is it of yours whether I put her down or not? Besides, it’s only logical for me to carry her back since we’re living in the same room.”

The last sentence finally managed to infuriate Pi. His hands flew up and grabbed Kame by his collar. This sudden movement woke Maki up. She blinked up at the hand overhead, taking some time to get hold of the situation. When she finally did, she gave a startled cry which managed to startle both Kame and Pi.

Pi release his hands immediately and Maki tapped Kame lightly, gesturing for him to put her down, which he did. She brushed her skirt as she suddenly became conscious of the awkward air about the trio.

Maki cleared her throat and started, “Kame, why don’t you go back first? You must be tired from today.” Maki referred to the emotional toll that he had gone through. “I have something to discuss with Pi.” Kame nodded and brushed past Pi into the house.
