“You’ll be marrying Yui,”
It took some time for Pi to register that sentence in his brain. “Is this your type of revenge on me withdrawing from the organization?” he smirked.
“Not really. I’ve never approved of your withdrawal. This is more of an order to the heir of the organization.” Tetsu replied calmly.
“In that case, that’s none of my business. I’ve already told you I’m withdrawing regardless of whether you agree or not.”
“And I’ve already told you I will not approve of your absurd withdrawal.”
“I think you’re mistaken. I dictate my own life!” Pi was staring straight at Tetsu, challenging him.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’ve been up to. You and she are impossible. The only thing you can do for her now is to take over the organization and I’ll let her leave.”
“Even though I don’t know how things will continue hereafter, but I am sure of one thing. I will not take over the organization and that’s final.”
Pi turned and opened the door and was surprised to find Yui standing outside. There was sadness in her eyes
“Come with me, I’ve something to say to you.” Pi told Yui.

“Has Tetsu told you anything?” Pi asked.
Yui nodded.
“Yui, you don’t have to listen to him you know. It’s your own life and you have the choice to choose someone…” pi thought of the next words to say. “who deserves you more.”
Yui nodded again.
“You do know what I’m getting at, don’t you?”
This time Yui finally spoke, “I’ve made my choice. I agreed… because I want to.” Said Yui earnestly.
Pi was at a loss for words, he didn’t know what else to say. It was always Maki that was on his mind, he had never thought of anything else and this time he was forced to think of Yui.

In the night, Pi went to the hospital again. As he entered the ward, Maki turned and put her finger to her mouth to signal for him to be quiet.
“She just fell asleep,” Maki whispered.
Pi nodded knowingly and he watched as Maki packed up her stuff to leave with him. The time for visit was over.
As the two of them walked towards the carpark, Pi started uneasily, “Maki, when you get back home…” and he didn’t know how to continue.
“Hm?” Maki asked, “did anything just happen?”
Pi bit his lips as he tried to find some way to break the news of Yui’s engagement to her. Finally, after a dozen ways went through his mind he said, “You know how I feel about you, don’t you?”
Maki blushed.
“You might hear some startling news when you get back home. But promise me, you’ll believe me no matter what.”
Maki was stunned by the seriousness in his voice, but she agreed nonetheless.

As Pi drove into the front car porch, he found Yui waiting by the door and his senses immediately became alert.
When he came out of his car, Yui rushed over to him and said “Pi, I’ve already prepared the bath for you.”
Maki who had gotten out from the other side was surprised to hear Yui address Pi in such an informal way. In the past, she had always called him 2nd Young Master.
Pi looked away from Yui over to Maki, “Let Maki go first, she’s had a long day.”
He walked past Yui and pulled Maki by her hands into the house, leaving a dejected Yui following closely behind
“I’ll help Maki-chan.” Yui offered.
“No!” Pi said in a voice louder than usual which startled both Maki and Yui. “It’s late, Yui why don’t you go off to sleep first.” Pi said in a commanding tone.
However, as he turned towards Maki, his facial features grew gentle, “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow?”
Maki nodded, slightly confused by the strange happenings. She went inside the bathroom and closed the door softly behind her.

Pi dragged Yui away before turning to face her. “Yui, don’t get too close to Maki in future, you hear?”
“Why are you so defensive towards her?” Yui asked indignantly. “You’re afraid she finds out of our engagement?”
Pi looks away guiltily.
Yui tiptoed and raised her face towards Pi, their lips met. Pi did not respond to her, he was cold and unfeeling. Yui lowered herself away from him with tears in her eyes. “Why won’t you accept me!” she cried.
“There is someone else I love, that’s why I can’t be with you.” He tried to explain, looking away from her tearful eyes.
“I don’t care! I won’t let you go, you’ll be mine.” There was something different about her, she was not the weak and soft Yui he thought he knew. She raised herself again to his lips, this time, her lips were forceful and demanded a response.
Pi pushed her away, slamming her against the wall. After a long pause as he stared in disbelief at the girl before him, he bent down and kissed her roughly.

Maki raised her hands to her mouth to mute any possible sound that might have escaped from it involuntarily. She had followed the two of them as she wanted to know the reason for their unusual behavior. She staggered backwards in disbelief at the scene she just saw. Finally, she turned and ran away, as fast as her legs could carry her, somewhere far, far away from all of this.

His kiss was cold, unfeeling and heartbreaking. Pi left Yui’s lips abruptly, his grip on her shoulders tightened. “Is this what you want?” his voice was forceful. “An empty shell you know will never belong to you fully.”
Yui slid down onto the floor. Pi turned away.
