As she walked down the corridor, it started to dawn on her that perhaps for the rest of her life she would be stuck in this house that she refuse to acknowledge. Her future looked as dark as the corridor. As she ventured deeper down the corridor, she could almost feel darkness threatening to devour her. But instead of turning, she continued walking towards the unknown. Perhaps, she wanted to be enveloped by the darkness, and then perhaps all this would end.
She reached the end of the corridor, there was a room. She placed her hand on the doorknob, it felt cold, as if this was the first time it had felt a hand. Maki twisted the doorknob and entered the room. The room was big but messy. The bed was unkempt, stuff were strewn all over the floor. But at the very corner away from all the mess was a painting. Maki was drawn to the painting immediately. She inched closer to the painting and realised that it was a painting of a woman, a very beautiful woman. She slowly placed her hand on the painting and traced the woman's outline before finally stopping on the woman's eyes. Those eyes were so sad and lonely. And then, she wondered if that was her future.
"What are you doing in my room?" As the lightning lighted up the room, Maki saw a young man at the balcony drenched in rain. He made his way into the room as the water on him dripped slowly onto the ground. Lightning flashed again, and this time Maki saw his eyes. Those eyes, they were so familiar. And she realised, they looked exactly like the eyes of the woman on the oil painting. The man followed Maki's hands to the painting. "Get away from there." he ordered.
Maki immediately withdrew her hands, "I'm sorry, I could not get to sleep so I ventured around. I didn't mean to enter your room without permission..." The man was standing right in front of her now.
"Are you new? I thought the old woman ordered no one to enter this room." The man's breathing sounded erratic, like he was in pain, he pushed Maki towards the door. "You better leave before someone notices." He pushed Maki out of the room, closing the door behind her.
Maki walked down the same corridor again. When she finally could see light, she realised that the part of hand where the guy had touched was stain in red. He must have been hurt. Without thinking, Maki turned and ran down the corridor back into the room.
When she entered the room again, the man was on the bed. She inched closer and noticed that blood spreading on the bedsheet. She removed his shirt and found that there was a huge gash on his upper arm and it was bleeding profusely. She looked around for some kind of bandage. But the room was in such a mess, there was not even any type of clean cloth. The man's face was very pale now. She knew she had to stop the bleeding fast. Finally, she decided that she had no choice but to tear a piece of cloth out of her nightgown to bandage his wound. When the bleeding had finally stopped, she realise that he was having a fever. She rummaged through the stack of clothes in his wardrobe and finally found a towel, not the best kind, but good enough.
All night, she took care of him until his fever subsided. She looked over to the oil painting, that must be the man's mother. But who exactly is he? Maki looked around and started tidying the room. She found a photo of the woman in the painting and a little boy as she flipped the photo around, she saw some scribbling on the back. 'I miss you, mom, -- Yamapi'
"So, he's called yamapi," Maki thought. After she was satisfied with the state of his room, she left.

The next day, Yamapi woke up to find a room that looked foreign to him. The only thing tt remained untouched was the oil painting of his mother at the far end. Then he noticed the bandage on his arm. The cloth looked weird. it looks like a piece out of a nightgown.
"Who could it be?" he thought outloud. Then he remember the girl from last night. When he climbed onto the balcony and saw her, he was shocked. No one had visited his room since the day he came to live in this house. But for a moment he thought she was..."An angel?"
