Chapter 50

Something is brewing...

Kame walked down the unfamiliar white corridor. Unfamiliar faces greeted him along the way. The results had been most unexpected.

"Yo," Jin greeted as he stepped in line with Kame. "Isn't it great that we are still working together?"

Kame merely smiled.

The board of directors had decided that it was too wasteful to not transfer both of them to further their skills in the main hospital.

"But you really shocked me back there, the ending of your speech," Jin took a deep breath and in an attempt to imitate Kame, spoke in a voice full of feelings, "'We are able to feel life, pain and bliss right here, in our heart, and everyone should have the right to go through all of that.' How did you come up with such an ending speech?"

"How... I wonder," Kame went into a trance.

"Hey," Jin nudged him a little when he noticed that they were walking past the room of the patient Kame was assigned too.

"Ah, I've reached. Well, I guess I'll see you around," with that, Kame turned towards the name on the door.

Horikita Hiyono

Maki reached out for the handle of the main door of the household. It was the day of the week when Maki was allowed to visit her mother at the hospital.

"Maki!" Yamapi called from behind as he ran up to her. "I'll follow you to the hospital."

"Mm!" Maki nodded and smiled.

Yamapi took hold of her hand, walking out of the door.

"Pi!" Yui's voice rang from behind and Maki withdrew her hands from Yamapi's almost instinctively. Such a small action did not escape Yui's notice. But she braced herself to sound calm and force a smile, "Where are you going?"

Yamapi breathed deeply trying to hold his annoyance down. He did not want to flare up at her in front of Maki, not when she still had a hold over Maki's feelings for her as a friend. This was a long battle of the mind between him and her and he was not about to lose it. "I'm accompanying Maki to the hospital."

"But we have to confirm the guestlist for the wedding."

Maki looked between Pi and Yui. The happy times with Pi almost made her forget that he was engaged to Yui.

"Maki, I'm sorry but do you mind if I borrow my fiance for today?" Yui smiled softly towards Maki.

"Ah..." Maki looked towards Pi and said, "It's alright, I'll go to the hospital by myself." With that, Maki turned and walked out the door.

All control Yamapi took to restrain himself from flaring up at Yui broke. With his back facing Yui, he spoke in a dangerously low voice, "How many times do I have to tell you, this marriage will never be held. Not now, not ever!"

But Yui simply smiled serenely, "But I don't remember agreeing to it."

"So it seems," Pi swiftly turned and grasped hold of Yui's chin and glared dangerously into her eyes, "that you will never take my words seriously."

"Otosan, I'll be taking back what rightfully belongs to us really soon. Kamenashi Tetsu that old man has no successor to rely on now, this is the best time for me to eradicate him once and for all. I swear before you that I will make him pay for what he had done to us." Shun told the old man who was lying peacefully on the bed. His father, Oguri Takuzo, went into coma the day he got into an accident when chasing after Hiroko after seeing her on the streets one night. Seven-year-old Shun was then left a near orphan.

The reason behind his misery was Kamenashi Tetsu and he would see to it that Tetsu will suffer a fate worst than his. He wanted to witness his downfall and he wanted to be the one to pull hm down.

"Okaasan, look what I've brought you," Maki smiled and placed her items on the table. "It's your favorite pancake, I've made it with a new recipe." Maki handed the prepared pancake to her mother. "There you go."

Hiyono looked at her daughter with mixed feelings. On one hand, she was glad to see her daughter but recalling what the other girl called Yui told her, Hiyono really didn't what to do now that her daughter is right in front of her.

She sighed and beckoned for Maki to take a sit beside her, "Maki, come here," she said while patting the spot beside her bed.

Maki took a seat on the bed beside Hiyono. Hiyono smiled lovingly at Maki with motherly eyes and wrapped her arms around Maki, pulling her into a warm embrace. "Maki... how long had it been since I last held you like that?" Hiyono rocked Maki back and forth, "My dear daughter, I'm so sorry for not being able to protect you. I've let you gone through too much already." Hiyono brushed Maki's hair lightly.

Maki wrapped her arms around Hiyono's waist and shook her head lightly, "Okaasan, I've grown up healthily, haven't I?"

"Let me see," Hiyono pushed Maki back a little to look at her in the face and smiled lovingly at her, "Not only healthily, but prettily as well." Then in a more serious tone, Hiyono continued, "Maki... do you have something that you're keeping from me?"

Maki looked curiously at her mother. "Something?" what was it that her mother was talking about?

"Do you know a girl called Yui?" Hiyono asked.

Maki widened her eyes in surprise, how was it that her mother got to know Yui? "Ah... mm!" she nodded her head.

"Then do you know how she is related to Pi?"
