Rush Of Blood To The Head

Chapter 17

Another Day Another Pain

Miyavi walked silently down the long, empty hall leading away from Yamapi’s office. He had been surprised how easy it had been for him to get Yamapi scared like he did, but that wasn’t what surprised him the most. Yamapi had requested the craziest thing of him.

“Look after her okay… Yuuki. She is the most timid of all the girls and someone could take advantage of her if they found out,” Yamapi had asked him. Miyavi didn’t even hesitate when he told him that he would. He wasn’t sure what it was about her, but he just felt like he needed to protect her, to help keep her and the other girls for that matter, secret. A soft whistling filled the air and Miyavi looked up from the carpeted floor of the hallway. A figure rounded the corner, his hands shoved deep into the pockets of his blue jeans. He smirked when he saw Miyavi and he quickly ran a hand over his Mohawk.

“Hey Miyavi what brings you here this late?” Hiroki asked as he came to a stop in front of Miyavi. He had an arrogant air about him. It was everything that Hiroki did that made him seem that way, even down to the way he stood. He drove Miyavi crazy.

“I could be asking you the same question.”

“I was jamming with Yuuki in studio four. He asked me to come down so I did, but now I’m off. I got a hot date. That guy I swear he never stops practicing. He’s like a machine,” Hiroki said. Miyavi’s mouth twitched as he let out a little grunt, looking away from Hiroki. One of Hiroki’s hands landed on Miyavi’s shoulder and he gave him a friendly pat.

“See you around Miyavi,” Hiroki said before he stared off, shoving his hand back into his pocket and started whistling right where he had left off. Miyavi didn’t bother to watch him go, but instead headed straight for studio four. When he made it there he quietly made his way into the mixer booth, seeing her through the glass. He sat down in one of the three chairs and switched the sound on so he could hear her playing. She was playing rapidly, hitting the drums furiously. She had a determined look on her face and her blond hair was stuck to the sides of her neck. Yuuki had always looked fragile to him, but as he watched her play like it was the last time she would ever play a new vulnerability seemed to rear its head. Yamapi was right, she would need protecting and he would do it, but he wasn’t sure he was the right person for the job.

“Takeo, hey I’m taking to you!” He yelled as he reached out for her, roughly turning her to face him. She looked up at him and her brown eyes narrowed in annoyance.

“What the hell do you want?” Takeo asked, folding her arms over her chest. Her brow shot up suddenly as she pointed at him, a huge smirk coming to her face. “Wait… you just called me by my name.”

“Don’t make a big deal about it kid,” Miura said, laughing at the frown that came to her face. Takeo was just too easy to get riled up.

“What did you want then Ojisan?” Takeo asked a smug look on her face. He stared at her for a moment, wanting nothing more than to just wipe that smirk off her face. He wasn’t afraid to fight Takeo, he could beat him in a fight he just knew it.

“Yamapi sent me to find you and tell you that you guys are having a photo shoot for some magazine and he wants you guys in the dressing room of the third floor in an hour,” Miura said, his voice sounding annoyed. He failed to add that five of the guys from the other bands had been chosen for it too. Something about new and old faces. All he knew was that he had been chosen and it sounded boring as hell.

“Why did he send you to tell me? Is he mad at me or something?” Takeo asked, scratching at her red hair. Miura laughed and shrugged his shoulders and shoved his hands in his pockets before turning away from her.

“Hey you didn’t answer my question you jerk!” Takeo said, her brown eyes narrowing as she watched him leave, his chuckle filling the hallway. That guy was the bane of her existence. There was only one thing that she could do… be at the dressing room in an hour. She let out a huff as she turned and walked in the opposite direction Miura had gone.

Jude whistled as she waited in line for her cafeteria food. It wasn’t the best food, but it beat hospital food any day. The small woman behind the counter plopped a large portion of rice and beef lo mien onto her blue plate and Jude quietly thanked her before she grabbed a Pepsi and headed for a small empty table. The cafeteria was bustling with life and it just made her smile. Life, she loved it. She popped her chopsticks apart and dove into her noodles quickly. Jude only had a half an hour before she had to be to the dressing room to get ready for the photo shoot. She knew nothing about it; just that Kame had found her and told her about it.
She heard a tray hit the table and she looked up, her orange eyes widening a little at the person sitting across the table from her. His dark brown hair was hanging wet by the sides of his face, his dark brow furrowed. He reached over and grabbed her Pepsi, taking a long swing before putting it back down. Jude looked at him, one of her eyebrows raised.

“What’s up Jude,” Jin said lamely.

“Just eating my lunch,” Jude responded, taking a sip of her Pepsi the taste of his mint chap stick overpowering the Pepsi. Jude tried desperately to hide the blush she could feel creeping up her neck to her face.

“So your face looks better… I mean it doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would,” Jin said. Jude frowned. She knew she couldn’t get mad at what he was saying because she was supposed to be a boy. Boys didn’t get mad about that stuff right? “I mean I didn’t mean it bad or anything.”

“No worries man. I shouldn’t have drunk that much and those chicks were annoying,” Jude said quickly. Did she sound as stupid as she thought she did? Jin smiled at her and Jude just stuffed more food into her mouth, trying to avoid looking at him. She hadn’t seen him since that night at the club and now when she saw him she realized why she drank so much that night. She was developing a crush on the bass player sitting in front of her and she could do nothing about it. He was the first guy she had been interested in since the cancer, since Reita. The girls had been annoying her because they were hanging all over him… No, she didn’t like him, she couldn’t.

“Yeah sorry about them, Chicks are so needy right?” Jin said. Jude hesitated for a moment before she finally responded him.

“Yeah…needy. Well I got to go. I’ll see you later,” Jude finished before she got up and left, leaving her food and drink behind. Jin watched her go, Jude’s black jeans being held up by a pair of orange suspenders, the toes of her white boots just visible under her jeans. He looked away from her and down at her half eaten plate of food. He grabbed the discarded chop sticks and shoved some of the soft noodles in his mouth. He looked down at the sticks and felt his heart quickening.

“What the hell,” Jin said to himself as he dropped the sticks back onto the table like they had bitten him. Yes Jude had used them too, but he shouldn’t have gotten excited about it. He was a dude, a dude that liked women… A LOT!! There was no way he could be having feelings for Jude. Jude was a dude, he was a dude. Two hoses just didn’t go together! He backed away from the table quickly, the chair clattering onto the ground. A few heads turned his way and he looked around, running his hand through his hair before making a mad dash for the exit.

Shun stood outside the break room with his hands shoved deep into his pockets. He wanted to rip Yamapi’s head off. Why out of everyone was Yamapi making him tell the freak about the photo shoot, he was pissed enough that he had to be in it. One of his large, calloused hands reached out for the knob and he turned it slowly, pushing the door open reluctantly. Keito was sitting on the floor, her tarot cards spread out on the glass coffee table in front of her. She looked up at him; her mismatched eyes have a look of reluctance in them. He wanted to high tail it out of there but his feet were glued in the open doorway. Keito’s head tilted slightly to the side and her eyebrows shot up as she waited for him to tell her something.

“Your aura is . . . troubled,” Keito said her voice quiet.

“To be honest you freak me out man,” Shun said with a frown. Keito smiled as she looked back down at her cards, flipping over the lover’s card.

“I can tell. You get stiff as a board whenever I’m around. I can’t be that scary, right?”

“Wrong,” Shun said without hesitation. When Keito looked back up at him, he quickly averted his eyes. He couldn’t look her in the eyes.

“You want to tell me something right Shun.”

“Oh yeah, you have a photo shoot today and Yamapi wants you in the dressing room on the third floor in fifteen minutes.”

“Is that it?”

“Yes.”

“You sure?” Keito asked. Shun looked back at her with a frown. What exactly was Keito playing at? He didn’t know what the hell Keito was talking about.

“Yes . . . third floor, fifteen minutes,” Shun said before he turned and basically ran from the room. He felt like he couldn’t breathe when he was around Keito. He just got too freaked out. Keito looked back down at the lover’s card and let out a sigh. What the hell was that supposed to mean? Who were the cards referring too? She was laying the cards out for herself after all.

“What the hell are you doing Yama? You’re having us pose with guys from the other bands and dressed as girls no less!” Tyler yelled from her position on the couch.

“Well you will be dressed as guys too, alter egos really. Except you have to pretend the girl version is your alter ego.” Yamapi said, trying his best to explain the situation. Tyler just looked at him, her blue eyes wide. He hadn’t liked the idea when the photographer told him, but he couldn’t say no. he didn’t have a good enough excuse.
“Yama this is such a bad idea!” Tyler whined, a small laugh coming from beside her. She looked over and narrowed her eyes at Sho who was sitting there with an amused look on his face.

“Why are you laughing? Don’t laugh Sho it’s not funny,” Tyler said.

“Yes it is and to top it all off you have to pose with your crush!” Sho exclaimed with a laugh. Tyler quickly tried to shush him, but Yamapi was already looking at her with a shocked expression.

“You like Kame!! No you can’t like him. That’s bad,” Yamapi said, sounding panicked.

“Don’t worry Yama, Sho’s just messing around with you,” Tyler lied. She didn’t want to hear him bitch about her liking someone. He had thrown a fit when he found out Sho knew the secret, but it was obvious to them all that he wasn’t going to tell. Sho was Tyler’s wingman after all.

“Okay well just be good and let the wardrobe people work their magic okay and complain about the make-up like all the other guys do okay.” Tyler gave him a thumb up and smiled at him.

“Gotcha, whine about the make-up.” Yamapi shook his head and let out a sigh. This was either going to ruin everything they were working for or end up great. He was hoping it was the latter.
