Beautiful Lies

Chapter 15

Erika was sure if she had asked Ryo out, he would have refused, since he wanted to keep a distance from her. So she decided to just see him and confront him directly. At a place he cant run from.
Because of that she was standing in front of his apartment building and pressing the bell now.
It took some time, but Yuta answered after a while, letting her in.
He was pleasently surprised to see her, Their shifts hadn't matched the last days, so it's been quite a while since they last ate in the cantine together.

„Wheres Ryo?“ she asked, but when she looked around the room she spotted him. He was lying on the couch, sleeping peacefully with one arm behind his head and the other on his stomach.
„He is sleeping a lot lately“ Yuta said when he saw her looking at him surprised.
Then he sighed. „Maybe because of his new medicine, i saw him taking a new one again. I swear it's probably his fourth since we moved her.“
„That's weird...“ Erika said. „Maybe it's just the new doctor...He doesn't know Ryo or his body as good as the other doctor did, right?“
„Still“ Yuta said suspiciously.

After Yamapi had talked to them they had becomde extra aware of everything unusual he did, concering his illness. They all were wondering the same thing. Was ist worsening?
But no one dared to say it out loud, afraid the others would agree to that theory.

„I'm going to work then. I suppose you want to talk with him alone. You can take your time. Yui's with Haruma, so you have at least a couple of hours.“
Erika nodded smiling nervously and said goodybe to him.
After the door closed behind him Erika turned to Ryo and sat down on the floor next to the couch.

She didn't move for a long time. She just watched his chest falling and rising quietly. She couldn't bear the thought that this movement could stop somewhen.
Her eyes travelled to his face.
She smiled at the peaceful look on his face and just stayed like that, taking in every detail of him. But then Ryo suddenly started coughing violently.
She got up hurriedly and got a glass of water for him.
He was awake now and sitting up, trying to control his coughing fit. She gave him the glass and he managed to drink some of it, consuming some medicine he got from the couch table on the way as well.
Just then he realized that it was Erika who had handed him the glass.

„What are you doing here?“ he asked a bit harshly, after he was able to relax again.
„I want to talk to you. Yuta let me in. He's gone to work now, so we have a lot of time to talk.“
„Theres nothing to talk about“ he said stubbornly, but she ignored it.
„I don't believe you“ she stated and waited for a reactiong from his side.
„What is it you do not believe?“ he asked after a stretched silence. He seemed to have deciced to play dumb again.
„I'm talking about the evening we went drinking together. I don't believe you forgot everything. If you did, you would treat me normally, but you don't. You try to keep a distance.“
Ryo sighed and rubbed the back of his head.
„Why do you have to make it this compplicated? Can't you just accept the fact that i want to distance myself from you?“ he snapped.
„So you really do remember and seek distance? Why?!“ she asked, hurt that Yuis suspicions had been right.
Ryo bit his lip and didn't answer right away.
„Did it ever occur to you, that i might not like you that way?“ he asked then.

She felt hurt again, but she was determined to confront him.
„Why did you kiss me then?“
„The alcohol“
„I don't believe you“
„You're repeating yourself.“
„You...! Why can't you just tell me what's going on?“ she asked then after noticing her strategy didn't work. „Yui, Yuta, Yamapi and I, we're all really worried about you. What's wrong with you so that you can't have a realtionship. Because of your disease? But you don't know when it'll get worse.“ she said her voice getting more desperate. „It's possible that you have years until it worsenes. Do you really want to spend those years in loneliness? I want to be by your side and support you! I want to go out with you!“ she confessed, her cheek getting slighlty red, but she continued looking at his eyes determined.

Ryo just sighed and shook his head in despair.
„It's just impossible“ he said, but she wasn't going to accept that of course.
„Why?“
„Doesn't matter right? It's just impossible.“
„It does matter! Dont you think its important for me why you reject me?“
„Just accept it!“ he snapped at her.
„I can't just accept it!“
„You can't do anything about it!“
Erika jumped to her feet, glaring at him, tighening her fist.
„You!! You are impossible! Just tell me the reason!“

Ryo seemed to think for a while, looking at her with an almost longing and desperate expression.
He bit his lip and looked away, standing up and going to the kitchen counter to get another glass of water for Erika. He poured it in and returned to her, handing her the glass. He avoided looking in her eyes all this time.
„The truth is...“ he began but stopped again, shaking his head slightly.
„The truth is that i'll return to Hokkaido in autumn and i don't want a long distance relationship“ he said simply, but to Erikas ears it still sounded like a lie. If it was such a reason, why didn't he say so earlier?
She stayed silent for a while, drank from her glass and thought about what to say.
„Your disease is already getting worse, isn't it?“ she said then and looked at him, studying his face.

Again RyoxErika centric. I hope you liked it. Next chapter is following today as well, i just have to correct the grammar mistakes and look up the english words i didn't know.
