Chapter 19

„He hits you“ he says. It wasn't a question.
Yui still continued looking to the ground. Yamapi sighed and let go of her arm. Unconsciously his grip had become stronger when he saw the evidence of Yui's abuse and now he saw he had left red marks on her skin.
„Was it the first time?“ he asked after taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. After hesitating a bit Yui shook her head.
„But last time he just slapped me. This time it was...worse.“ she said then hurriedly.
“Why are you defending him?” Yamapi snapped at her, but when he noticed his own attitude he bit his lip and thought for a while.
„Do Ryo and Yuta know?“ he asked, already knowing the answer, but he didn't know what else to say.
„No...they don't. But please! Don't tell them!” she begged him and looked in his eyes for the first time, her eyes were starting to water.
“I handle this myself. They have always solved the problems for me. It's time for me to stand on my own feet and rely on myself only.“ she explained.
„But this is serious...They should know“ Yamapi said weakly when the tears threatened to fall from her eyes.
„I'll tell them somewhen, but not now. I don't think Ryo should know it at all. It's definitely not good for his heart.“ she said.
“You should tell Yuta at least...or Erika. Talk about it with someone you trust or get professional help. Yui, this is really serious. You don't know what else he'll do, when he already hits you.” he tried to talk sense into her, but it didn't seem to help at all. “Okay, if you don't want to talk to anyone, you can come to me if you need help, okay?”
Yui just nodded.

“You are going to leave him, aren't you?” Yamapi asked then.
Again after a bit of hesitating she nodded.
“Please just don't tell anyone,okay?...Can you go and get my bag? I want to apply the make up again before I go back in.” she says.
Yamapi obeys her and goes in to fetch her bag. While doing so he earned some weird looks from her coworker and his two friends. He got back outside with her bag in his hands and held it to her. She thanked him hurriedly and started covering the bruises again.
When she was done, the two of them went back in together, pretending nothing had happened, for now.

Ryo was on the way to his check up at the hospital the next morning. Instead of going straight to his doctor, he took a detour and took a look at the emergency department, secretly hoping that Erika would be there.
He hated to admit it, but after talking to Erika he felt relieved and was not as anxious anymore. Somehow her optimism transferred to him. He also had this “It'll work out somehow” attitude now, like she had.
He walked through the halls and took a look at everything, when someone called his name from behind. He turned around and saw Erika coming his way, it seemed like she came out of a patients room and due to this he hadn't seen her earlier.

“What are you doing here?” she asked him surprised but also glad to see him.
“Just taking a check up.” he replied truthfully.
“In the emergency department?”
Ryo just smiled sheepishly at her..
“I'm about to take my break, how about me coming along?” she asked then after a short silence.
Ryo hesitated a bit. No one had ever 'come along' when he went to his check up, not even Yuta or Yui.
But after a while he nodded. “Sure, I don't mind.”
Erika smiled happily and went ahead of him towards the cardiac department
.
They arrived in front of his doctor's examination room and Ryo first knocked, then, without waiting for an answer, he entered with Erika behind him.
Fujiki looked up when they came in and his eyes showed a surprised expression when he saw Erika.
“Girlfriend?” he asked and Ryo introduced her shortly.
The two of them shared a few formalities politely. Even though Erika worked in the same hospital the two of them were in different departments and never needed to work together before.
“Well then, let's start.” the doctor said an beckoned them to sit down.
The couple followed his wish and sat down opposite him.
“How is the new medicine working?”
“Not that well, I think. Sometimes my heart feels like it's close to an attack. At work I need a break more often and it has side effects. I'm really tired lately. Once I get up I feel like I should sleep some more. And I had a small attack without a real reason.” Ryo explained feeling slightly calmed with Erika beside him.
“I think we should try a new medication then. But first I need to check on you more throughly.” Fujiki said.

Ryo knew what he had to do, since it wasn't the first time he was examined, so without command he took off his jacket and slipped out of his other clothes covering his upper body, so that he showed his bare chest. Then he laid down on the examination couch, while Fujiki prepared everything for the examination. Erika sat down beside Ryo's feet.
The doctor examined his heart with a cardiac ultrasound, murmuring something every now and then.
When he was done he told Ryo to get dressed again and get back to his seat.
Erika and he sat down again and waited for the doctor to talk with them about the results.

“It's gotten worse” he said without introduction when he sat down as well. He opened the picture from the ultrasound on the computer and showed it to them.
“See, it enlarged again. I'm sorry to say this, but the medication won't show effect now. There was nothing wrong with the medication, it just didn't take effect anymore, since you're disease already progressed this much. It's really a miracle how worse it became in a week.”
Erika and Ryo didn't say anything and just stared at him.
“So I advise you to stay in hospital until your surgery. The risk of getting a major attack is too high. I also think that it's a good idea to postpone the surgery. It should be earlier, maybe next month?” Fujiki said and already took out his cellphone, probably to call the doctor in charge of surgery planning.

“No.” Ryo said suddenly, but calmly and Fujiki and Erika looked at him slightly puzzled.
“I won't stay in hospital and I won't postpone the surgery. It'll work out somehow, it always has!” Ryo said and jumped to his feet, not as calm as before anymore.
Fujiki looked at him and sighed. “I really hoped you had gotten rid of that childish side of yours.”
He stood up and went to a cupboard with medicine in it. He opened the drawer and picked up a small bottle with blue pills.
This bottle was handed to Ryo with the words. “When you have an attack, take these and call an ambulance. They'll make you endure it long.”
After thanking him for his understanding Erika and Ryo left the room.
“Are you sure it's okay?” Erika asked worried and Ryo just nodded.

Again a long wait for a new chapter. I kept writing parts again and again but somehow i didn't get it to sound how i wanted it. I'm still not contented, somehow i think my writing style is going downhill xD
