He gave up on thinking about it and stood up, making his way to the bathroom, where he brushed his teeth and took a shower.
A while later he was in the middle of making breakfast when Yui finally came out of her room. It was already 10 o'clock.
“O-nii still sleeping?” she asked when she saw him preparing the table.
“I think so.” he said and looked at her more closely.
She had bags under her eyes and looked pale.
“Didn't sleep well?” he asked then as he placed an extra plate on the table.
She didn't answer him and just sighed.
“Coffee is done if you want any.” he said then.
“Yes please.”
He got 2 cups ready, poured in the coffee and handed one cup to her before drinking from his own.
They both definitely needed the coffeine, since both of them didn't sleep enough.
The two of them sat down at the table together and started eating, their breakfast.
After a while he noticed that Yui hardly ate anything and just played with the food on her plate by shoving it from one side to the other.
“Something wrong?” he asked, trying to lead the conversation to Haruma.
He was sure it was connected to her state.
She looked up surprised, but shook her head nonetheless.
“Nothing is wrong”
“Sure? You're pale, haven't slept much, don't eat...clear signs that somethings up.” he said, smiling slightly at her.
She was such a bad liar.
She bit her lip, but still didn't say anything.
“Truth is, I saw you yesterday.”
He saw her eyes widen and was a bit confused by it. Was there something he wasn't supposed to see? Something other than Haruma stalking her?
He carried on, pretending he hadn't noticed her change in expressions.
“You were walking down the street at the festival and I saw Haruma following you. Is he stalking you or anything? I thought you broke up. Is it because of him that you're like this?”
She stayed silent for a while and tried her best to look stunned. He was sure that she knew exactly that Haruma had followed her yesterday.
“I didn't know. I haven't seen him since the day we broke up. Are you sure it was him? Or are you even sure that he was following me? He could have just taken the same road as me. It doesn't mean he's stalking me.”
After a little pause she added more quietly. “He isn't that kind of person.”
Yuta stayed silent for a while, thinking carefully about what to say next.
“Why are you lying” he said then and looked her in the eyes sternly.
“Why...I'm not. Really!” She retorted, seemingly trying to sound as convincing as she could.
He was sure he wouldn't get her to talk, so he decided to let it slide for now. He thought she would ask them for help if it was really serious, but he was still concerned.
Yuta clenched his fist under the table. He was sure that something was up with her and Haruma, but he still had to find out what.
::::::
Masami, Yamapi and Hiroki were at work early the next day.
This time there was a photo shoot scheduled, that should take place way earlier than normal shoots, since it featured a sunrise.
In Exchange they would be allowed to finish their work sooner that day. This time neither Yamapi nor Masami nor Hiroki had the main job, all three of them acted as assistants.
When Yamapi and Masami met each other that day, the atmosphere was quite weird and uncomfortable. They were like high school kids, not knowing how to act around another. Luckily they got back into their old behavior quickly or else Hiroki would have noticed something.
They had hardly spoken to each other after the kiss, but they had held hands the whole time and also kissed goodbye.
Due to that Yamapi thought it was quite clear that they were going out, even if they never put it into words.
While he was thinking about the last evening he and Masami got called by their boss. They had finished the photo shoot and were back in the office already.
Together they went to the room of their boss, not really knowing what It would be about at all and let Hiroki behind to finish cleaning up.
After knocking and going inside they were told to “sit down and listen” Their boss had quite a rude attitude, but they still looked up to him because of his skills.
“I have new offers for you. First Nagasawa, I know, you haven't had a job before, but at one of our exhibitions a client saw your pictures. He said he sees your talent and he would offer you an own exhibition. It seems like he is a guy with too much money, who loves spending it on supporting new talents, so you don't have to feel bad about accepting it.
Then theres your offer Yamashita. I get a lot of offers for you, but only a few would help you to gain popularity. Now an offer came in from a television channel. You are too shoot promotion photos for dramas and pictures from the actors. Many people will see your works, so it's a great opportunity.
Another matter is, I've registered you two in a photography competition especially for young talents. I've confidence in you and you should be able to win, so good luck. Here are the informations, you may leave now. It's been a long photo shoot, so take a good rest.”
He handed them some papers with details written on it.
It had always been like that. Telling them what he wanted them to hear and without listening to any comments they were dismissed. But today they were too happy to be annoyed by it. An Exhibtion and a job that wasn't only temporal. Furthermore they would participate in a competition.
When they had left the room and closed the door behind them they grinned at each other like crazy and hugged out of happiness.
Masami blushed a little, when he put his arms around her, but she quickly got used to it and enjoyed his warm body pressed against hers.
“I can't believe it.” she whispered happily and Yamapi rubbed her back.
“Happy news?” they heard a voice from behind.
When they turned around they saw Hiroki.
Quickly Masami got into distance from Yamapi, but Hiroki smiled knowingly.
“You don't have to hide it from me, it's obvious after all.”
The two of them smiled sheepishly at him, somewhat sorry for keeping it from him.
“So, what did he tell you?” Hiroki asked and Yamapi noticed that he was a bit anxious.
Before he could say anything Masami told him everything with a wide smile on her face.
Yamapi could see his smile falter a little, before he got it back into place, maybe a bit weaker.
„I see, Good for you isn't it?“
He tried pretending to be happy for them, but he failed miserably.
Masami and Yamapi both knew why he reacted that way. He was the only one who hasn't gotten and own job yet.
„I'm sure you'll get a job soon as well.“ Masami said, trying to encourage him.
But it backfired.
„I don't need your pity! You act all high and mighty just because you've got a few more jobs than me.“ he snapped at her.
„It's not pity. We try to encourage you. We can all see that you start getting frustrated and we just intend to help you.“ Yamapi retorted calmly.
„I'm not-“ Hiroki started aggressively before realization hit him and he continued whispering. „-frustrated...maybe i am.”
He looked down at the ground and brushed a hand through his hair.
“Sorry Masami. I normally don't loose my calm so easily, sorry for snapping at you.“
Masami just smiled at him slightly in return. She was happy that he noticed they didn't feel superior towards him.
After a longer silence Hiroki spoke again.
„I've started wondering if photography is really the right thing for me...I mean i love it, but that's not enough, is it?“
Yamapi sighed when he heard his friend saying that.
„Boss wouldn't have chosen you if you didn't have the talent, so don't worry about it. Keep working hard and a client will notice you.“
He said encouragingly and Hiroki smiled and nodded in response.
He knew Yamapi and Masami didn't intend to make him jealous or thought highly of themselves. He had acted that way because he was angry at himself, for not taking photos that were good enough. If he did clients would choose him as well. He felt bad for snapping at them, but he was glad that they didn't take offense.
They left the studio together.
Masami lived in a different direction than them, so they said goodbye at the front door.
Hiroki waved her goodbye while Yamapi kissed her on the cheek slighlty, making her smile brightly.
When they turned around to go home, Yamapi suddenly felt like being watched.
He turned around quickly and scanned the street, but there was no one to be seen.
Was it only his imagination?
