Chapter 32

“How are you feeling?” Yui asked Yamapi quietly, after Yuta had left them room, saying he needed to discuss something important with Erika and Ryo.
Both, Yui and Yamapi, knew that he just wanted to give them time to talk in private and especially Yui was thankful for it.
“I'm alright, don't worry.” he said gently, trying not to make her feel worse than she already did.
“I'm sorry. Really, It's -” she stared but Yamapi shook his head and interrupted her.
“It's not your fault. The only one who's at fault is him, Haruma. So don't worry. I'm alright, I only have to stay a bit longer in the hospital. Extra free time for me.” he said and tried to make her laugh with the last comment.
He succeeded, even if her smile was a teary smile.

Yui was about to say something again, when the door was knocked at.
Both of them turned around to see who entered and where first surprised when they saw two men in suits.
They apologized for the intrusion and introduced themselves as police officers from the district, where the stabbing had taken place.
“If it's alright with you, we would like to ask you some questions.” one of the two officers said to Yamapi and the latter nodded warily.

They asked him about the day in detail. About his history with Haruma, his reasons and the conversation they had before he was stabbed.
After an affirmative nod from Yui he also explained about Haruma's hitting of his girlfriend and with that the reason why he was attacked of all people.
They copied a lot of things he said to their notebooks and thanked him when he had nothing else to say.
“Thanks, If you remember something else, something that could be of importance, please contact us here.” the second man said and handed him his card. “We hope you'll get better soon, take care.”
They moved towards the door and had already opened it, when Yui stopped them.

“What will happen to him? The...offender?” she asked in an unsure voice.
Surprised the officers turned around and looked at her.
They hesitated a while, before telling her Haruma's possible future
“He'll probably go to jail or a psychiatry. It depends on the trial.” the older officer said.
Yui just nodded and the officers left for good.
She was glad that she didn't have to be afraid anymore, but she still felt upset about Haruma going to jail or something like that.
She didn't want him to end up like that, just because of meeting her.
“I'll go out for a while...getting fresh air” she said and turned around without looking at him.
Yamapi grabbed her wrist lightly, before it was out of reach, without really knowing what he was doing.
She turned around and looked at him questioningly.
“You are not blaming yourself for Harumas punishment, are you?” he asked after a while of silence.
Yui bit her lip slightly, before she shook her head with a soft but fake smile on her face.
Yamapi let go of her wrist and leaned back on his bed. He wouldn't be able to persuade Yui that nothing of this was really her fault. So he decided to just let it go.
A while Yui looked at him puzzled. He was definitely acting weird, but she couldn't point her finger on what was wrong with him.
She smiled slightly, still in thoughts and winked before she left the room.

At the small place with trees and flowers in front of the hospital Ryo leaned against a tree.
Erika was standing in front of him and looked at him with a look of pity mixed with worry.
He kept wringing his hands, as if he was nervous, but for Erika it was a sign that he was thinking furiously.
And she knew very well what he was thinking about.

After they had left the hospital room Yuta had told them about Yui's problems and why Haruma had attacked Yamapi.
The first thing Ryo had wanted to do was beat the hell out of Haruma.
He couldn't believe that anybody would hurt Yui, who was that cheerful and gentle.
Especially since Haruma didn't seem like that type of person at all.
He had heard a lot about DV guys, but he never thought that one of his friends would have to deal with one of them,.
Erika had managed to calm him down and to prevent him from barging into Yamapi's room, she led him outside.

Now he was standing there and lost in thought, without saying a word or looking at her. He was staring blankly at a hospital window.
“Ryo...I know it's not easy for you, but everything is solved now. Isn't that a good thing? Yui and Yamapi are alright now and Haruma was caught by the police. Everything is fine.” she said gently and laid her hand on his shoulder.
He ignored her fully and kept staring.
She wasn't even sure if he had heard her at all.
She didn't try a second time, since she was sure he would talk to her when he felt like it, when he was ready.
The silence continued for a few minutes, then he talked.

“I should have noticed something.” he mumbled, more to himself than to Erika. “I should have noticed her fear or her injuries. She's...She's helpess without Yuta and me. Why didn't she tell us, we would have solved it for her.” he said, getting more and more desperate with every word.
Erika hugged him gently and she noticed that he was trembling slightly.
She didn't know if it was out of anger or something else, but she rubbed his bag slightly to sooth him.
“She probably didn't dare to tell you. She feared you would harm Haruma or that it would be too much excitement.
She probably doesn't like to depend that much on you and wanted to change it. But luckily Yamapi found out and he was able to help. You really don't need to beat yourself up about those things. It's over. When Yamapi's out of hospital everything is back to normal.”

Ryo didn't answer, but pulled her closer to him.
