Beautiful Lies

Chapter 5

„Good Morning, I'm Nishikido Ryo. Lets work well together“ Ryo said smiling enthusiastically at his Coworker. It was a girl with long, black hair that was pulled back in a ponytail. Two strains of hair lighlty falling into her face, sometimes hiding parts of her face. She didn't smile at him or said anything. She just looked at him for a while with a uninterested expression on her face and continued sorting out old products, ignoring him rudely.
Ryo's smile faded a bit, but came back into place moments later.
She reminded him of himself, when he first came to Hokkaido. Trusting No one, not trying to get to know anyone... He was really glad that he had met Yuta and Yui who had changed him slowly.
„So...whats your name?“ he asked after silently working next to her, while he was thinking.
She didn't respond again and just continued working.
„You don't like talking?“ he asked, even though it was obvious.
Again silence.
„There was a time i didn't like it either.“ he continued and checked her face for a reaction. Nothing.
„Nishikido!“ their chef called him and he went to him. „Clean the storage room, please.“
Ryo just bowed slightly and went past him. „And don't get close to her“ he said quietly, so that only Ryo could hear it.
„What are you talking about?“ he asked with his brow furrowed.
„That's Ishihara Satomi. You just moved to Nagoya, so you wouldn't know...She is a killer. She stabbed her own father with a kitchenknife when she was 17. All the time she kept saying she hadn't done it, but no one blieved her. Who would have? People had seen her commiting the crime. So its better not to come close to her. She's dangerous. I just let her work here since she's the cousin of a friend.“ the store owner rambled on and Ryos eyes widened when he heard that. In his eyes, she didn't really seem like someone who could kill. He didn't want to leave a bad impression on his first day by talking back to him rudely, so he answered. „I'll be careful“

Erika was checking on her patients when her best friend at work came to her to share the newest gossip.
„Have you heard?“ (Mizukawa) Asami, nurse in their department, asked. „Theres a new doctor in the cardiac department. I saw him a while ago. He's so good looking. I know youre not interested, since you have Shota-san, but he's really good looking. You should see him. Like those actors on TV.“ She was literately floating.
„You're right, i'm not really interested.“ Erika replied with a small smile and went out of the room.
„Youre such a spoilsport“ Asami whined, following her stubbornly.
„So he is your next target?“ Erika asked. „Or is it just admiration for his looks?“
„Dont make it sound like i play with the men“ Asami said puting and Erika had to laugh.
„People said he is really nice, so i have to admit i'am interested in him. But I'll know when i've talked to him“ she said smiling brightly at Erika. „Going to approach him then?“ Erika asked but didnt get a response. Asami had turned her head back to the hallway and had stopped abruptly.
„Asami, whats wrong?“ Erika asked and followed her gaze. She was looking at a handsome guy in a white uniform.
„Ahh...The new doctor?“ Erika said smiling at Asami who just nodded.
„He's coming our way“ Asami said surprised, as they saw him looking at them with a friendly expression.
„What's he doing in our department?“ Asami asked herself nervously.
„Calm down! Youre acting like a Highschool kid“ Erika scolded and Asami went silent.
„Good Morning“ the young doctor said when he reached them.
„My name is Hiraoka Yuta. I'm a new doctor in the cardiac department. I came to introduce myself to you. Toda Erika-san right? I'm a friend of Ryo, i think he told you about me? So i thought i should introduce myself after learning that you work here“ he said in his gentle voice and flashed her and especially Asami a beautiful smile.
Erika could see Asami turning bright red next to her while she introduced herself. She just shook her head with a big smile. When it came to men Asami really acted like a child. Turning red, being nervous and everything else included. Erika had never been that way. It had always been easy for her to talk with boys, especially since his two best childhoodfriends were boys.
They talked about their work for a few minutes and then Yuta got a call. He was needed in his department. They told each other goodbye and went back to their work.

Ryo's shift was almost over and all his attempts on getting Satomi to speak to him failed. After cleaning the storage room he had went back to her and continued blabbering about all the things that came to his mind. Nothing had worked. He was getting a little desperate and stayed silent for a while. Satomi looked at him almost relieved. „Nothing more to say?“ she mocked him in a cold voice and went to the counter. There she threw her apron on the chair and walked out of the store.
„Strange girl“ he thought to himself, but the fact, that she spoke, was a progress in his eyes.
He was helping his last customer when the door opened and Yui came in.
„You know what? I've got a job! And don't worry, its no maid cafe, cabaret or something like that. It's a small cafe in a narrow alley. Ever heard of Copa Room? That's the name.“ Yui said excitedly.
„That's great, your first job, huh?“ Ryo said smiling.
„Yes! And I'm really anxious about it. What if I break cups? What if I'am late? What if the customers hate me?“ she said looking at him with a shocked expression that made him burst out laughing.
„Your worried about those things? Calm down, Yui. Nothing will go wrong. You'll do just fine.“
„I hope so. I start next week so i have enough time to practice carrying cups and plates,“ she said now again with her usual confidence.
„Youre so strange“ Ryo teased and Yui stuck out her tounge. „And childish“ he added, but she didn't pay attention to him. A guy had just entered the Konbini and was walking towards them. Yui had her eyes glued to his handsome face.
„Excuse me? Could you show me where the batteries are?“ he asked Ryo politely and the latter nodded.
„I'll show you“ Yui said eagerly and went on to guide him. Ryo stood there and looked after her.
With raised eyebrows he saw her doing her best at getting the boy interested in her. They seemed to be about the same age and he had to admit, they looked kind of cute together. But he was glad that Yuta didn't see this. He was in love with her for about 4 years now and she didn't pay any attention to him at all. Ryo often felt bad for him, since he was too shy to admit his true feelings. Around other girls he acted like a real playboy, but when he really likes a girl, he's unbelievable shy.

Since it was almost time for lunch, Yuta abandoned his work and went to the canteen. All the way to the food counter he could feel the stares of the female colleagues and he quite enjoyed it. It had been the same in college. Everywhere he went the girls would stare at him. Just one girl didn't pay attention to him, although she was the one he wished to be noticed by the most. He gave up a while ago, but he couldn't forget her so easily. He stood there deep in thoughts when someone tapped his shoulder. He turned around, expecting to see one of his admirerer, but surprisingly it was Erika.
„Oh, hi“ he said and she smiled warmly at him. „Let's sit there together okay?“ she suggested and Yuta agreed easily, since he didn't know a lot of people here.
„How's your first day been?“ she asked him in a friendly way and sat down at a table.
„It's really great here. I have nice colleagues and i love working in my department. I went around all day to get to know the patients and did some paperwork. Tomorow the real work will start. So today everything was quite relaxing.“ he said enthusiastically and sat down opposite her.
„Relaxing? I'm jeaulous. I don't know that word anymore“ she said while laughing a bit.
„I think i`ll forget about it soon enough“ he said and chuckled.
They continued talking about their work for a bit, but after a while she seemd to decide it was time to ask the question, she had wanted to ask the whole time.
„I know its really unfair to ask you, but ... do you know why Ryo disappeared so suddenly?“ she asked with slight discomfort in her face.
„I think i do, even though he never talked about it openly, but I wont tell you since i think its his task. Just wait until he is ready to tell you.“ he said and Erika ndded with an understanding but disappointed look.
„I know ... then ... can you tell me in what kind of relationship Yui and he are in?“ she asked trying her bost not to seem too interested and he smiled knowingly.
„Don't worry, they see each other as siblings. No romantic feelings involved.“
„Its not like that...Its just that...You see i have a boyfriends so i didn't ask for that purpose.“ she said a bit hastily. She sucked at hiding her feelings.
„Why don't you come to our flat after work? I'm sure Ryo will be glad to see you.“ Yuta said.
He really wanted Ryo to reconcile with his old friends, even if he had to force ryo to cooperate.
„Is it okay? Without asking him?“ she asked uncertainly and Yuta just nodded.
He emptied his glass of water and stood up. „I have to go back now. Lets meet at the entrance after work. We can go back together then.“ he said smiling and waved her goodbye.
Erika just nodded smiling. She was really happy to see Ryo again so soon.

The next chapter. I hope you like it. I've already completed Chapter 6, so i just have to check it again and then i'll post it.
