Chapter 9

It was about one o'clock and Yamapi was walking around the city dead bored. It was his lunch break, and since he had already eaten at his worklpace, didn't know what to do know. He walked around aimlessly, until a Konbini came to his attention.
„Isn't that the Konbini Ryo works at?“ he asked himself with an unconvinced voice. But he recognized it after looking at it more closely.
He decided to go in to see if Ryo worked today and if he had time to talk. Even now Yamapi was convinced, that Ryo was still hiding something from them and he was determined to find out, what it was. He thought the best method was to directly talk to him about it, but if that failed, he would have to look for other ways to find out the truth.
Thinking about those things, he went in and was greeted by the shopkeeper. Absentminded he muttered a greeting as well, looking around for a sign of Ryo.
He couldn't see him anywhere.
He walked trough the store until he suddenly heard quiet voices. He went closer and immediately recognized Ryo's voice.
„Where did you hear that?“ he asked his coworker, whom he recognized as Ishihara Satomi.
„I overheard the boss talking about it.“ she said shortly and through the shelves he saw her looking at him with a expressionless face. They both stayed silent for a while and Yamapi wondered what they were talking about.
„So, its true? It can get worse?“ she asked after a while in an more interested and concerned voice.
Yamapi couldn't believe, that she showed concern for someone.
„It can...“ Yamapi observed his best friend carefully and he saw, that he was again not telling the whole truth.
Satomi didn't answer immediately. She continued looking at him with an almost worried expression.
Did Ryo really manage to get trough to her? And that in such a short amount of time? They had just worked together for about two weeks.
„You're hiding something aren't you?“ Satomi said slowly and spoke the words Yamapi thought a while ago.
„What do you mean?“ Ryo answered on alert.
„A while ago you said it could get worse, but your face told me your hiding something.“ she answered.
„How could you tell by seeing my face if i'm hiding something or not? We don't know each other that well“ Ryo said in a harsh voice.
Satomis eyes got small. „You dont have to talk to me like that!“ Yamapi could see she was about to walk away, but something prevented her from doing so.
„Give me that attitude all you want, i still think youre hiding something and you're just saying these things to distract. So what is it?“ she asked in a harsher tone as well.
Ryo didn't answer for a while, but Yamapi saw that he was determined not to tell her anything.
„Sorry, but i won't tell you“ he said and a thoughtful moment later he added. „Unless you tell me what really happened with your father“ He emphasized the word really here and Satomi looked shocked at him.
„Why don't you just go to the shopkeeper or someone else in town? They'll all gladly tell you.“ Satomi said scornfully.
Ryo shook his head. „The shopkeeper told me about it, but i dont believe it was really like that. You dont seem like that kind of person“
Yamapi could see guilt appearing on her face for a second, but then it disappeared as quickly as it came.
Ryo just looked at her for a while, before turning around and returning to the counter. Satomi stood there, looking at the floor and apparently thinking about the things Ryo had said.

It was evening know and Yui and Erika had decided to meet without the boys for once to get to know each other better. Erika was standing in front of the cafe, they where supposed to meet at and waited for her. She looked left and right, but couldn't spot her in the crowd. Sighing slighlty she leaned against the wall with her back.
„Did i make you wait for long?“ she heard Yui's cheerful voice right on her left about a minute later. She jumped a bit in surprise and looked at her, laughing about her jumpiness.
„No, it's alright. I just got here myself a few minutes ago...Shall we go in then?“ Erika asked her then and Yui nodded enthusiastically.
They walked together into the cafe and looked for a place to sit. Soon they spotted a table at a window. They sat down, ordered two drinks and started talking casually about their work, Yui's hometown and things like that. But then the conversation slowly lead to Ryo.
„You call him Nii-chan, sometimes, don't you?“ Erika asked with a small smile on her face, remembering the first time she had see her calling him that.
Yui answered smiling brightly. „Yes, we've known each other for eight years now and we saw each other almost every day. I somehow ended up seeing him as a brother rather than a man.“ she giggled abit about her last sentence.
„How did you get to know him?“ Erika asked interested.
„My father is his doctor in Hokkaido. He told me that there is a boy who is a bit older than me who has a disease. He told me to go to him and cheer him up a bit. I went, but after a while i didn't do it for my father anymore. I just liked his company and loved to make him smile. Since his smiling face is so much better than his sad one. And now we are like brother and sister.“ Yui said.
„I see...I'm sorry for asking you all that...I'm just curious. Even though he behaves almost like he did when we were in Highschool...It feels like i don't know him at all anymore. Its irritating.“
Yui smiled emphatically at her.
„You will get to know him again, the more time you spend with him. Its only natural to change in 8 years. So don't worry. It will definetely get better.“
Erika smiled at her as well. Erika actually felt a bit jealous towards Yui, since she knew him so much better than her now, but she had to admit, it was quite easy to talk to her about things like that.
Erika had thought she couldn't talk about more serious stuff with her, since she always seemed childish. But today she recognized that she also had a more mature side on her.
„How are things going with Haruma?“ Erika asked then in order to break the silence and immediately Yui turned back into her cheerful, childish self.
„As you know, i went on a date with him yesterday. And it went really well. He is so kind and loving. Its easy to talk with him and get along with him. He really seems perfect. I'm still looking for a bad point in him.“
„Maybe your just so in love with him that you don't notice his weaknesses“ Erika offered and smiled again.
Yui just ignored her statement comepletely and Erika smiled again. She felt bad for Yuta, but she thought it was no use to dwell on a unrequited love. It just hurts. If Yui really doesn't feel anything for him, he should try to forget her and get a new girl. Erika was glad, that at least Yui had the opportunity to get a loving boyfriend.
