Chapter 29

Forever

It wasn’t as if I didn’t believe him when he said the words, “I Love You” to me. And I knew that I loved him too. But I couldn’t bring myself to say the same words back. He stared at me as his eyes began to tear up a little. I really wanted to say the same words back, I really did. But I couldn’t. I knew if I did say those words back, I would regret it.

“I understand…” he said as he slowly backed away from me. His eyes told me the story in his heart. They were wet and crystallized and every drop of tear that came out seemed like a piece of diamond that shattered off.

“Ray…” the word came out like a faded whisper. I looked as he faded into the background and a tear strolled down my cheeks as I heard his sobs coming from the spot he had left. It wasn’t my choice anymore to love him or not…

-Flashback-
“Ms. Sheh… I need you to be prepared with what I’m about to say,” the doctor spoke slowly after he examined my results for a long time. It felt like hours to me as he read those results, but in truth it was only about ten minutes time. I nodded my head slowly, expecting for the worst. I knew it wasn’t going to be something good because every time my head had hurt it felt a stab through my brain. “There’s a tumor in your brain, located in the center of all your nerves. We cannot perform any surgeries to remove the tumor since if we do; we’re about 86% sure all your nerves will die out.” I felt a teardrop fall out of my eyes.
-End of Flashback-

I knelt to my knees as the flashback came rolling into my memories. Why did he have to say those words now? Why? I looked up to the sky, the gray and sunless sky, and mumbled, “I love you too Raymond, I do…” I closed my eyes as tears streamed down now, without my control.

“Charm…?” It was a voice that I would remember anywhere. It was a voice that I thought would fade out of my life as soon as he backed away from me. He ran towards me and embraced me now, as neither of us spoke a word. All that could be heard was my sobs against his chest. His warm touch made me believe there was hope, even though deep inside my brain I knew there wasn’t any. This was all I needed to make me believe that I wouldn’t regret my life ending-- his warm breath on my hair along with the soft brush of his lips. My eyes closed and I went to my happy place, a place where me and Ray would be together… forever.
