He lay there motionlessly, staring at the sky; people around him forming a circle around him whispering to each other looking quite horrified.
His body hurt. His muscles ached, and he felt pain coming from his stomach. Tempted to see what the cause of the pain was, he tried to get up. But right when he moved his body, a striking pain made him go numb.
The pain was almost unbearable… off in the surroundings he faintly heard the sound of sirens. As his vision blurred, he saw the eyes of the people staring at him in shock. He wondered why they would just stare at him and not help him up. Before he knew it, his vision went black and he felt like he was flying.

“Happy 9th birthday Raymond!” His mother smiled brightly while holding a birthday cake in front of him, “Now blow the candles out and make a wish.”
He smiled at his mother, “You’re the best mom!”
She laughed a sparkle in her eyes.
He blew the candles out soon afterwards and closed his eyes to make his wish.
‘I wish dad would come back.’
*Flash*
“How could you do this to me? First you take off with another woman and now you’re coming back to fight for Raymond?”
He was secretly spying on his mom’s conversation with his dad. Raymond was now 12 years old and was quite the nosy kid. Besides, he really missed his dad. But he knew that this wasn’t the time.
“Raymond is my son! I can provide a better life for him. You?” His dad snickered, “You barely make enough money to pay the rent! How can I leave my son with you?”
“I can’t believe I even married you.” Tears flowed down his mom’s face; Raymond’s heard dropped at the sight of it, “You will never take Raymond! Maybe over my dead body!”
Raymond couldn’t stand it anymore; whoever made his mom cry was to be automatically added to his hate list. No one had the right to make his mom cry, even his dad!
The two adults immediately noticed Raymond and his dad ran over to him immediately.
“Raymond! Did you miss daddy? I’m back!”
Expecting a hug from his son, he raised his arms out. He was shocked when Raymond ran over to his mom and hugged her instead.
“Go away, dad.”
*Flash*
“So I heard you had a crush on the new girl.” Bosco winked.
Raymond was now in University; trying to achieve his Bachelors Degree.
“No I don’t!” Raymond blushed, “Who did you hear that from?”
“Ron.” Bosco laughed, “You know Ron, major gossip. Sometimes I wonder if he’s secretly a woman, no offense to them of course.”
‘Damn Ron.’ He silently cursed.
Taking Raymond’s silence as an answer, he began to laugh even harder, “I knew it! I knew it! Who would’ve known that you actually like a girl? I’ve known you since middle school and you never mentioned liking a girl. Sometimes I even wondered if you…” Bosco winked.
Raymond’s face immediately scrunched up, “Bosco, go to hell.”
“So… is it true?”
“I just think she’s pretty, that’s all.” From afar, he spotted her and couldn’t keep his eyes off of her.
“If you say so.” Bosco smirked as he too admired the sight of the pretty girl.
*Flash*
It was Raymond’s last year before he graduated, and he had one last thing to do to make his life even better.
He saw her from afar and he immediately ran over to her.
“Charmaine!” He called out to her.
She turned around and smiled at him upon his entry, “Hey Ray, what’s up? Ready to graduate in just 6 months?”
“Well actually, I’m not.” He stared at her; she was beautiful.
She stared at him oddly, “Really? I thought you were. What’s wrong?”
“I don’t know how to say this actually…” He was getting nervous, it was do or die.
The look on his face worried her, “Ray, you know you can tell me anything.”
“If… you know, there was one day where… let’s say I tell you that I like you, what would… you uh… say?” His heart was racing and he couldn’t breathe properly.
He continued to stare at her, waiting for her to say something. But she seemed to be in shock and wasn’t recovering from it.
Slowly but surely, her face began to go red and she looked away nervously.
“Well… I…” She stuttered, not knowing what to say, “I…”
He laughed at her, thinking about how cute she looked at the moment.
“Charm.” He sobered up and took a hold of her shoulders, making her stare at him, “What would you say?”
Too shy to say anything, she could only nod.
Raymond immediately hugged her and was so happy, he ended up jumping on the spot, bring her with him.
“Charmaine Sheh, you’re officially my girlfriend.” He whispered in her ears before breaking their hug.
He leaned in close, their lips only inches apart.
“And you’re officially my boyfriend.” He heard her whisper.
And that was all he needed to hear, he closed the gap between them and kissed her; holding her tightly in his arms.
*Flash*
It was graduation and to be honest, Raymond was going to miss the place he called home for 4 years. But of course, he was going to miss his girlfriend the most.
“What are you thinking about?” Charmaine asked as she came up beside him; handing him a drink.
“Just about life.” He stared down at her and pecked her cheek, “I’m going to miss you.”
She laughed, “You’re only going to be in the States for 2 months with your mother and your step-father, don’t make it sound like you’re never coming back.”
“But 2 months is a very long time.” He whined, putting his drink on the table before wrapping his arms around her waist, “Won’t you miss me too?”
She placed her drink beside his and laughed, “To be honest…” She placed her arms around his neck, “I will.”
He smiled at her, “Promise you won’t leave me?”
“Well, if someone like Jung Yunho came along and asked me to marry him, I would have to say yes.” She teased, “Then he would tell me he loved me in Korean, and we would live happily ever after.” She laughed.
He pouted, “No fair. You’d rather pick a celebrity over me.”
“Yes.”
“Well, I’m sure he’s not a better kisser than I am.”
“I don’t know, why don’t we go find him and ask him to kiss me?”
“He wouldn’t dare.”
She smirked, “We will never know unless we go find him.”
“Hah! You’re my girlfriend forever and ever!”
He bent down and kissed her on the lips, pulling her closer to him.
*Flash*
“I missed you so damn much, Charm.” He had just gotten out of the arrivals area and rushed out to hug her.
“I missed you too, Ray.” She held onto him, missing his scent.
“Next time I go to the States, you are so coming with me.” He said, pecking her cheek.
“If you pay, sure.” She laughed as he leaned forward and kissed her.
*Flash*
“I think she’s pregnant.”
Raymond was now 25, and confused.
“Serious?” Bosco asked, sitting next to Raymond.
“Yeah, she has been throwing up regularly and has been eating many different things.”
Now it was time for Bosco to be confused, “Shouldn’t you be happy? I mean, you’ve always wanted to start a family with Charmaine.”
“Well, you see, I kind of wanted to start a family with her after my career gets steadier.”
Bosco laughed, “Your fault. Use protection next time.”
Raymond’s face reddened, “It was an accident; we were both drunk.”
“Ah, so that explains it. Why else would she want to sleep with you?” Bosco joked, his mouth curved upwards.
“HEY!”
*Flash*
“Raymond, I’m not pregnant.” Charmaine laughed at him.
He blinked, “Wha? But… I thought you were? You were throwing up… and… didn’t have much of an appetite.”
She shrugged, “I thought I was too, but I went to the doctors and she confirmed that I wasn’t pregnant.”
“Oh.” He felt sad.
“What’s wrong Ray? I mean, not that I’m saying I don’t want a child with you or anything, but shouldn’t you be relieved I’m not? You’ve always said that you wanted your career to be steadier and all.” She looked at him, holding his hands.
“I guess…”
She pecked his cheek, “C’mon, cheer up Ray. It’s not like today’s the end of the world or anything.”
“So you’re saying that we will be having children in the future?” He smiled mischievously.
She leaned in closer to him and whispered seductively, “Yes.”
Raymond gulped and looked at her, a hint of a smirk on his face, “Well, why don’t we try now?”
He immediately crushed his lips onto hers and led her to their bedroom.
*Flash*
Raymond was now 26, and was ready to propose to the love of his life.
“Are you sure bud? Marriage isn’t as awesome as it sounds.” Bosco asked.
“I’ve never been surer in my life.”
Bosco pat his shoulder, “I know you can do it. Good luck and when she accepts I’ll be your best man.”
Raymond glared at him jokingly, “Who said I wanted you to be our best man?”
“Oh c’mon! I’ve known you since middle school for godsakes! Also, if it wasn’t for me introducing you to her, you think she’ll be your girlfriend?”
“I was kidding.” Raymond turned to him, “Thanks for everything Bosco.”
“Hey! What are friends for?” Bosco laughed.
*Flash*
He didn’t know what happened. One moment he was walking to Charmaine’s workplace to propose, the next, a gunshot was heard and a sudden pain attacked him.
Frantic screams were heard everywhere as people gathered around him screaming at each other to call for the ambulance.
His thoughts immediately went to Charmaine, she was probably waiting for him outside her office to go to lunch with him.
“Charmaine.” He muttered to himself.
*End of Flashes*
Raymond’s eyes immediately opened, this time his surroundings were different. He was now in a white place, which he recognized to be the hospital.
“RAY! You’re awake!” The voice. The voice that belonged to the love of his life.
“I was so worried.” Tears raced down her eyes as she held his hands tightly, “I thought you were leaving me for good.”
His heart dropped at the sight of her crying, “Char…” He said through the breathing tube, “I would never leave you. I love you.”

*1 year later*
The pair stood together, listening to the priest talk. Friends and family were watching them with tears in their eyes. The pair had gone through so much and it was such a happy sight to see them finally tie the knot.
“Do you, Raymond Lam, take Charmaine Sheh to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
Raymond turned to Charmaine, his eyes getting teary, “I do.”
“Do you, Charmaine Sheh, take Raymond Lam to be your lawfully wedded husband?”
She smiled brightly at him, “I do.”
They exchanged their rings with the crowd woo-ing as the pair kissed.

*Several years later*
Raymond was now 34, and a father of two beautiful children.
“So daddy was hurt by bad guys while he was on his way to mommy.”
His little girl looked up at him, “Why? Daddy so nice!”
Raymond smiled at his little princess, “It’s because the bad guys were in a fight and daddy just happened to be in the middle of it.”
“Oh.”
“But why you daddy?” His little son asked, as his eyes were focused on his little racecar toy.
“Daddy doesn’t know why, but it’s okay. Daddy’s still here isn’t he?” Raymond smiled at his two children.
“And while daddy was in the hospital, mommy was so scared she couldn’t sleep properly.” Charmaine walked in, “Lia, Jayden, time for bed.”
The two children bid their farewells to both parents before running to their rooms.
Raymond got up and hugged his wife, “Sorry for scaring you.”
Charmaine laughed, “Not as much as your mom. Your mom immediately booked the next flight to Hong Kong when I told her.”
“Well you know how mom is.” Raymond smiled cheekily.
“I honestly thought I was going to lose you, Ray.” She said seriously, staring into his eyes.
He half smiled as he caressed her face, “What did I tell you Charm? You’re never going to lose me.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
