Chapter 2

Demon in My Past

A/N: Thank you for all the people who reviewed! It was more than I thought I would get! I’m glad you like it so far. This chapter is mostly going to focus on Yoochun and Changmin and part of their past together. Also, for the person who asked where Yunho was, he appears in this chapter! Hopefully this chapter helps answer some questions, though I get the feeling that it might raise more xP This chapter is also kinda like a filler, if you will. I’m not completely happy with it, but I hope you like it. It’s also a bit longer. I hope you like it!

Yoochun stared at the scene in front of him and sighed sadly. Changmin was so frustrated lately with everything that was happening. He really wished he could help him more, could use his gifts for him without question.

That would be against everything he had worked so hard for though.

It tore at him, hurt him deeply, to see Changmin so frustrated, scared (though he would never admit it), so hurt by his inability to do, to finish (or to start, depending on how you looked at it) what HE had worked, was still working, so hard for. Changmin knew though, that Yoochun would tell him, would give him everything he needed, wanted, in a heartbeat, if he could. He didn’t hold it against him that he couldn’t, which only made Yoochun feel worse. But Changmin would never forgive him if he went back on his vows, if he went against everything he stood for and had worked hard to achieve, because Changmin knew what it meant to him.

And that made Yoochun love him more, made the hurt not as prominent in him. And he knew that Changmin loved him just as much. Not as a lover though, just as his own feelings were not those of a lover. They were brothers, in almost every sense of the word, except by birth. Changmin had taken him in, given him a home, a shelter, food, a family, more than he could have ever hoped to have.

He had always been an outcast, despised by his birth family, by the small town he had lived in when he was a kid. Every day he had to deal with the ridicule, the scorn, the insults, the beatings. Everyone was scared of him, hated him, because of his parentage, something he couldn’t control, just like his gifts.

Because he wasn’t fully human.

His birth mother had claimed to have been seduced, controlled by the demon that had impregnated her and left her with Yoochun, a baby she had never wanted and never loved. Yoochun was just glad that she had never terminated the pregnancy, something she would constantly say to him that she regretted. She had hoped, maybe, that he would be normal, be human, when he was born. She was disappointed however, a few weeks after he was born and he had started showing signs of his demon parentage.

He had finally had the strength to run away when he was twelve years old. He had run into the forest neighboring the town and wandered for days. He had finally collapsed on the fifth day from hunger, fatigue and dehydration. He had been drifting in and out of consciousness when Changmin had found him.

He had recognized what Changmin was, despite his weakened state, realized that in front of him stood a demon. He had looked up at him, wondering if he would kill him. For surely, this demon would despise him as much as the town people. He was half human and half demon, a mix between the breeds and hated by both for he didn’t truly belong in either world.

Changmin had surprised him though. Instead of killing him he had held his hand out to him, and made him a deal.

‘Come with me and live. I will give you shelter and food, and I will help you train your gifts. In return you will work for me, use your gifts for me as you can and be my brother. If you refuse I will kill you now, and I promise it will be swift. Choose.’

Yoochun mentally chuckled at the memory. Changmin had been as blunt as ever then, had appeared so imposing to his muddled mind. Regardless though, he had accepted, something he never regrets. It hadn’t been the offer of shelter or food, or training that had made him choose to live; it had been the offer of brotherhood, of a family. All he had wanted at that time was acceptance and a family that loved him. Changmin had not offered that, not directly, but even then Yoochun could sense the underlying meaning in his words, had sensed in Changmin the same thing he wanted.

A family, to be loved by someone. So Yoochun had taken his hand, feeling the relief in the grip that grasped his hand tightly before he had blacked out, the hunger, fatigue, and dehydration finally getting the best of his body. He had woken up in a medical tent, Changmin sleeping by his side, still holding his hand. At that moment he had gotten a glimpse of their future, the bond that would grow between them, the love and feeling of family, and he had cried, waking Changmin up. He had asked what was wrong, and even though you couldn’t hear it in his voice Yoochun had felt the concern, and he had cried harder, making Changmin gather him in his arms to try to comfort him. And at that moment Yoochun had vowed to never leave Changmin or betray him, to use his gifts for him and him alone as best as he could.

That had been half a century ago, barely a hiccup in the long life of demons and half breeds like him who choose to live as demons. In that time they had grown into what Yoochun had seen that moment in the medical tent. It was something he had learned in his long training, was simply a possible future, one that could have changed at any time. It hadn’t though, something Yoochun had never doubted, because he never doubted Changmin, and this was something he had promised, even if only subtly, and Changmin never went back on his promises. He had given him shelter, food, and training for his gifts. In return he had gotten the brother Changmin had promised, gotten love, a family.

It hadn’t been easy though; he was half human and therefore despised by most demons. He had gotten through it though, and had earned respect for himself and what he could do. He didn’t care for their opinions of him though; he only cared for Changmin, and rejected any requests to work for someone else. He had vowed to use his gifts only for Changmin and he had kept that vow, restricted as it was by the vow’s he took at the completion of his training.

It was those same vows he now wished he wasn’t constricted to, that were hurting him, even though Changmin’s understanding and love diminished it.

Changmin drew him from his memories by slamming his fists down on the table in front of him, throwing the reports he had been looking at away from him in his frustration. Yoochun moved into the room silently, stopping behind Changmin who had his head cradled in his hands. Yoochun slowly drew Changmin’s head back from his hands, tilting it back towards him. Changmin let him, knowing instinctually it was him. He started to massage Changmin’s temples, sending waves of calm to him as he moved to his scalp and down to his shoulders, trying to get rid of all the stress he was feeling. Changmin let him; sighing and relaxing into the massage, letting his head roll a little in his relaxation.

Yoochun’s heart always warmed at the trust Changmin had in him. He knew he was the only one who would be able to get away with seeing Changmin in a vulnerable state, the only one who could touch him like this without permission, the only one who Changmin trusted implicitly with everything, just as it was the same for him with their positions reversed.

Yoochun eventually stopped, just keeping his hands on Changmin’s shoulders and he stepped closer and let Changmin rest his head on his stomach. “What’s wrong?” he questioned quietly. Changmin sighed again, raising a hand to rub at his forehead before tilting his head and looking up at Yoochun who was looking down at him, a little amused grin on his face at the position Changmin was currently in.

Changmin, knowing his thoughts, scowled a little and lightly smacked the hand on his right shoulder, not changing positions though. “It’s just the latest reports I’ve received from some of the scouts. They don’t hold the best of news.” Yoochun nodded, having figured this, and leaned forward to grab one, quickly scanning it and whistling lowly. “All of them hold the same thing?”

Changmin shrugged, nodding. “More or less.” Yoochun grimaced. “Well, we knew something like this was bound to happen Changmin.”

Changmin sighed, nodding. “Yeah, but actually seeing it written in black and white is different.”

Yoochun massaged his shoulders lightly for a moment before taking his hands away and stepping back, making Changmin look at him and causing Yoochun to grin widely. “Well, I’d say that’s enough for today. Come on, I have a surprise for you.” Changmin looked at him blankly before that morphed into an amused look. Normally he wouldn’t have stopped yet, but he was curious, so he stood up, making Yoochun’s grin widen (something Changmin didn’t think possible) and he rushed forward to grab Changmin’s hand before he proceeded to drag him out and through the house (which was more like a mansion) and out the front door and to one of the car’s they owned.

Yoochun proceeded to open the door and push him into the passenger seat before buckling him in, much to Changmin’s amusement, before slamming the door shut and rushing to the driver’s side and climbing in, closing the door and buckling himself in as well. He quickly started up the car and shot off down the driveway, the gates at the end opening for them then closing behind them automatically.

Changmin would have asked where they were going but he knew Yoochun wouldn’t answer and just look at him with that mysterious grin of his. So, resigning himself to a long drive, he settled back and slowly drifted off. Yoochun looked over at him, a soft smile on his face as Changmin dozed off. ‘He needs to relax more.’

Looking back to the road he pressed down on the gas, making the car go faster. They still had a long way to go.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He shifted his position a little on the rooftop across from his target. He had watched him all day, from the moment he had gotten up and gone to school, through his classes, ‘till now when he was walking home. The boy was currently stopped inside a convenience store, getting what he didn’t care. He shifted again as the boy left the store, two plastic bags hanging from his left hand and walking back in the direction of the apartment where the boy lived.

He quickly sprang to the next rooftop as the boy got farther down the street, keeping pace with him and making sure to keep him in his sights at all time. The boy stopped and looked around, as if feeling his eyes on him. The thought made him chuckle. Even if he did, he’d never be able to find him. The boy started walking again, this time a bit faster. His apartment was close, just another block away. The boy quickly fished his keys out as he got closer, opening the door to the building when he arrived and moving out of his line of sight, for the moment.

This was easily fixed.

He quickly jumped down from the building he was on, hitting the ground lightly before moving across the street quickly and into an alleyway and scaling a neighboring building to the one his target lived in before settling on the roof, having the perfect view into the boy’s apartment.

He settled down, watching as the boy entered the apartment and locked the door behind him before taking off his shoes and dropping his school bag by the door, moving into the kitchen to unload the things in the two plastic bags before moving into the living room and collapsing on the couch in his living room.

Jung Yunho, vampire and mercenary for hire sighed. ‘This is going to be a long, boring night.’

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu sighed as he collapsed on his couch, tired. Jaejoong had, indeed, whined all day. He had finally given up at lunch, much to Junsu’s relief. He had apologized and had asked if Junsu remembered anything else, which he hadn’t. They had talked a bit more on the subject, trying to come up with theories, but came up with nothing useful. Well, Junsu had come up with something, but he hadn’t told it to Jaejoong because of how ridiculous it sounded.

‘Maybe…maybe that man in my dreams…maybe he has something to do with the reason I stopped dreaming. Maybe he took away my dreams…but then why would he suddenly give them back now? Aish! This is ridiculous. That would mean he wasn’t human…’ Junsu bit his lip at that thought before running a hand through his hair. That was ridiculous.

‘There is no way…of course that man was human…what else could he possibly be?’

No matter how much he tried to get rid of the thought it stuck in his head, stubbornly. ‘Stop thinking like that Junsu! You gave up such silly notions years ago! This is why you live in a separate city from your family!’

When Junsu had been younger he had been so sure that things such as demons and vampires and werewolves and faeries had existed. He couldn’t remember why, he was just convinced in the supernatural. It had had his family concerned for his mentality. They had hoped it would disappear as he got older, but it hadn’t. So they had sent him to various shrinks to try to get rid of such notions. His parent’s were very strict in their beliefs, they didn’t believe in the supernatural, found it all silly and called it nonsense.

When it hadn’t worked they sent him away to another school, a better therapist. That had hurt him, deeply. He loved his parents, but they had sent him away. They had enrolled him in his current school, gotten him an apartment and paid for it, and sent him a monthly allowance for food and other amenities.

That had been the straw that broke the camel’s back, so to speak. He had worked with the therapists, blocked all thoughts of the supernatural out of his head and went on with a normal life. He went back home every holiday and summer, and though he was ‘cured’ they left him there.

He had been fine for the past four years. He didn’t read or watch anything that had anything supernatural in it. He took up his parent’s belief that it was all nonsense and stopped all thoughts about it.

Yet all it took was one dream to bring that all back. He shuddered and leaned forward, cradling his head in his hands. He shook, raising his head up before getting up and walking to the bathroom and splashing cold water on his face. He gripped the edge of the sink and glanced up at his reflection, seeing a pale and drawn face looking back at him. He shuddered again, looking away from his reflection before moving into the bedroom and turning on the laptop he had. It wasn’t the latest model, he mostly got it so he could type up assignments, but it got the job done.

He sat down in front of it and brought up the internet, intent on doing some research. He didn’t know if something supernatural had in fact done all of this, took his dreams and invaded them.

He was going to find out though, and if it was possible, what he could possibly want with him.
