Lei and San Cai's Christmas/Part2

~STILL CHRISTMAS TEN O CLOCK~

San Cai: “It’s still early, do you want to explore the woods.”

Lei shook his head: “It’s scary in there.”

San Cai laughed: “You’re a grown man and you’re still scared.”

Lei scowled: “Hey! Fine I’ll go, since you are.”

San Cai grabbed him hand: “Hurry up.”

San Cai and Lei instead of going into the woods found a broken, dirty house with a small candlelight glowing.

“Does anyone live in there?” she asked

Lei: “I don’t know, but let’s not go disturb them.”

They suddenly heard a wail, sounded like a baby’s cry.

“Come on, maybe someone needs help.” She said

Lei and her rushed over to the house, the latch was broken so they just went in.

“Oh gosh.” San Cai exclaimed as she held onto Lei seeing the sight before her.

Four kids dressed in rags with dirt on their faces sat on a chair, a little baby about one sat on his sister’s lap staring curiously at the newcomer, he had stopped crying for a second.

Lei: “Uh, hi.”

Boy 1: “Who are you guys?!”

Boy2: “You better not hurt us! Stay away!”

The two young girls about seven or six stared nervously at Lei and San Cai.

The baby started crying again.

Girl1: “Oh god, I think he is hungry again.”

Girl2: “What are we going to do? There is no more food left.”

Boy 1: “First we have to get rid of these people.”

San Cai: “Please, we mean no harm.”

Boy 2: “Why did you come here then?”

Lei: “It was an accident.”

San Cai walked slowly over to the baby: “Can I try holding him?”

The girls backed away nervously, the boys blocked their sister protectively.

“She doesn’t look mean, unlike other rich people.” The youngest girl squeaked

Boy 2: “Mom told us not to talk to strangers.”

“They don’t look like bad people.” The oldest girl replied

“I’m not a bad person, I don’t want to hurt you guys. Look, if the baby is hungry, would you mind coming over to our house? We have plenty of food there.” She offered softly

Boy 2: “You want to kidnap us?”

“She just wants to help! Stop insulting her!” Lei suddenly shouted, everyone stared at him

Lei took San Cai’s hand: “Come on, if they don’t need our help, let’s go.”

San Cai took one last glance at them before leaving.

“Wait!” the eldest girl shouted

They turned around.

“Please help us, my baby brother is hungry.” The youngest said

The boys looked ashamed of their behavior, their head were bent down sadly.

San Cai smiled and took the baby in her arms: “Come with us, I promise we wont hurt you.”

Lei offered his hand and the youngest girl took it timidly. The rest followed behind.

“What if mommy gets home?” the youngest boy asked

“She wont, at least not this early.” The oldest one answered.

~SAN CAI AND LEI’S PLACE~

As the children entered their house, they gasped and looked around delightfully. They rushed over to the blazing fire to warm themselves.

San Cai heated up some milk in a glass and asked: “I don’t have a bottle, will he know how to drink from a mug?”

Girl 1: “Yea, we don’t own bottles, too expensive.”

San Cai handed the baby a mug of hot milk and he gulped it down hungrily like he hasn’t eaten for days.

The kids stood in a row politely.

San Cai and Lei looked curiously at them.

“Hi, my name is Kitty.” the eldest girl introduced her self

“My name is Holly.” The youngest said

“Uh, I’m Brandon.” The eldest boy said

Youngest boy: “I’m Matt, and that is our brother Andy.”

San Cai smiled happily: “I’m San Cai.”

Lei just sat there and San Cai laughed and introduced him: “His name is Lei.”

San Cai’s POV: I may have been poor but these kids…my heart broke seeing them at first. I need to help them, I want to.

San Cai saw the kids eyeing the cookies: “Help yourselves.” She said cheerfully

Matt, Brandon, and Holly ran over delightfully but Kitty stayed back.

Lei: “What’s wrong, Kitty?”

Kitty looked at them shyly: “Mommy said we need to have manners.”

San Cai waved at Lei: “He doesn’t have manner why do you need them? Go enjoy yourself, look, your sister and brothers are having fun.”

Kitty smiled gratefully: “Thanks, you are really nice people.”

San Cai poured drinks out for the kids while Lei made some calls on his phone.

Holly: “I never tasted anything this good.”

Brandon smirked: “Stupid, that’s because we are so poor.”

Matt: “This is the best day of my life!”

Kitty: “Yea, these people are like angels that were sent to help us.”

The kids were still stuffing their faces with cookies and polished off the plate in a few minutes.

They still looked starved but remembered their manners.

Brandon: “Uh, thank you for your food, we have to go now.”

Kitty carried her brother in her arms: “Thank s again.”

They regretfully put on their tattered shoes with holes on, taking another glance at the warm cabin with colorful lights and a fire.

“Where do you think you are going?” Lei asked

Holly: “Home.”

Lei blocked the door: “Not when my wife is still preparing food for you.”

San Cai blushed when Lei called her his “wife”, he grinned at her and she looked away, her face flushing.

Matt: “It’s ok, we are full.”

“Then I’ll have to trash these.” San Cai pretended to take the turkey, ham and baloney sandwiches away with the hot coca.

“No, NO!” the boys cried and dove for the food, munching away quickly forgetting their manners.

This time the girls, handed Lei the baby and rushed over too.

San Cai laughed and went over to Lei: “Eat slowly!”

“How does it feel?” she asked him

Lei looked at her: “What?”

“To hold a baby.” She smiled

Lei blushed: “Weird, he feels so soft and giggly.”

San Cai laughed out loud: “Giggly?!”

Lei handed her the baby: “I’ll get used to it though.”

San Cai looked questioningly at him: “What do you mean?”

Lei grinned naughtily and stroked her back: “When we have our own…”

San Cai turned red instantly: “There are kids here, behave yourself!”

“You didn’t really mean to leave them before right?” she asked

Lei: “Of course not, I did it so they’d fall for it.”

San Cai smiled: “You really have a way with kids.”

Lei: “You know, this is the first time I felt so content helping people, I never knew it’d make me feel so happy…”

San Cai nodded, she got a little teary: “Yea, I know. I feel so sorry for them, they are so young and they…they…have a hard life. But they have each other…”

Lei squeezed her shoulder: “Don’t worry, if we play good guys, we might as well do it all the way.”

Lei: “Let’s take them back to their house later.”

San Cai nodded: “Ok.”

When the kids were done eating, they were already friends with Lei and San Cai. They boys had apologized for being so rude but she didn’t blame them because they were only trying to protect their family.

Walking across to their house, which was not far from Lei and San Cai’s cabin, the kids cried with delight when they saw their house. Or their new house…
