Chapter 19

Tearing Up

Nic arrive at the hospital and now in the elevator going up to meet his Gill. He was nervous not knowing what to say in front of her and how to react. When the sound of the elevator interrupted his thoughts, Nic then slowly walk out of the elevator and down the long aisles of the hospital into Gill’s room. Some nurses walk by and smiled at Nic and he just looks straight ahead to the door he has to enter. After what felt like ages, Nic stood in front of Gill’s door. He hesitated to go inside or stay outside. Nic reached out to turn the door knob to enter, but once he touches the door knob he quickly let go. Nic is still too nervous to go inside and meet her right now. He stood their not knowing to go in when the door knob turned and the door opened and their stood, Joey, Gill’s sister.

“Nic, what are you doing standing out there? Come in, Gill is awake.” Joey said and dragged Nic inside. Nic now stood by Gill’s side and staring at her deep brown eyes full of sadness. Nic wanted to reach out and hug her right away, but something inside of him is not letting. After a long period of time of staring Joey interrupted the awkwardness, “I think I should be going, you two need to talk. See you later Gill! Bye Nic!” Joey quickly walks out leaving the two staring again.

“So…how you feeling?” Nic asked while scratching the back of his head.

Gill looked at him for a while and answer, “I’m doing fine.”

Nic not knowing what to say stay quiet, leaving them having another awkward silence. Time passes by and the two still stay quiet when all of a sudden Gill broke down and cried. Nic started to panic and ran to her side and hug her.

“Gill, why are you crying? I’m right here.” Nic said trying to comfort Gill from crying. Gill didn’t say anything and continue to cry her hearts out. The two stood in the same position for half an hour when Gill said, “Nic, just go, you deserve someone better than me. I’m not a virgin anymore and I have HIV already.”
