“Hello, thank you for calling Sunrise Inn. May I help you?” The receptionist spoke when she got the phone.
“Um… hi, I'm looking at a newspaper, and it says you guys are hiring some people. So I wanted to ask if that job is still open?” Gillian asked and was hoping for the answer she willing to hear.
“Yes, we are still hiring people. What is your name? And when can come in for an interview?” The receptionist quickly asked Gillian as she readied the paperwork that was needed for the interview.
Gillian broke out from her trance and immediately said, "Yes, my name is Gillian Chung and I can be there tomorrow, if that is alright?" Gillian asked as the receptionist wrote down Gillian's information.
“Yes, and thank you for calling. Have a nice day.” The receptionist hung up, as did Gillian.
On the next day, Gillian dressed herself in her best clothing and prepared herself for her interview. As she open the door to leave, she saw Cecilia walking home drunk. Gillian walked away shaking her head and thinking about how pathetic Cecilia was sometimes. Always out late and following Nic around. She'll probably get pregnant someday without knowing who the father is. “Shame on her if she gets pregnant and the daddy runs away, she'll be a lonely mother with a kid who doesn't have a dad. That's is so fucking stupid. Cecilia, Cecilia, you will end up like that if you keep follow that gangster.” Gillian thought to herself. Later, she arrived on time to her interview and flew through the process. Gillian got accepted for the job and she was really happy.
The next day went by quickly after all the hard studying Gillian had gone through. It was time to turn off the lights, close the books, and have a little shuteye for the night. The night went by swiftly because Gillian was having a good night rest and dreamless sleep, but after 8 hours, it was time to wake up and get ready for her first day of work. Gillian wore her regular clothes to work because she knew that you would have to wear the maid clothing while working. She came to work, filled out the forms and was finally working, and shown to the rooms she had to clean. Her very first room of the day was super messy. It took Gillian forever to clean it, but she got through all the mess and finished. As she walked down to the laundry room, she heard the other staff members talking.
“Hey, you know what? In room 314, there is this really cute guy. Man! He is defiantly hot.” One lady said and she sighed, looking up at the ceiling, thinking about the guest in 314.
“I know, and he is so flirty too. I heard that he has flirted with most of the girls in this hotel. He has been here for a week, I didn't haven't even had the chance to see him.” Another lady said and smiled, thinking about how cute he must be.
Gillian heard them talking, and she just smirked at it. Later, she looked at her list to check which room she had to clean.
“314? Oh, the 314 dude.” Gillian slowly pushed the cart to the room. The room was so dirty; it was dirtier than the last room. Clothes were everywhere and food and drinks were on the floor. “Damn, he so fucking dirty.” Gillian spoke out loud and started cleaning. She was exhausted by the time she was finished, because she had to do his laundry, clean up his mess, vacuum the floor, change his bed sheets, and make sure everything was back in order. Gillian quickly left after cleaning the last of it, getting ready to move on to the next room. While she was walking she heard a man flirting with some other girls. Gillian ignored it and walked away. “You girls are so stupid to fall for that, some people are fooled way to easily.” Gillian spoke under her breath while she passed them.
“What did you say?” The man heard Gillian mumble and turned around. He never realized the person he was talking to was Gillian. “Gillian? You work here?” He asked in a surprise.
“Oh, it's you, the jerk. What the hell are you doing here? Renting a room?” Gillian asked and rolled her eyes. “Oh yeah, this is the hotel, why bother to asked you why you are here. That's why the hotel was invented, for you fools to come here and do some stupid shit, you know, better than to do at your own homes.” Gillian sighed and left, not waiting for him to explain. Edison quickly walked up to her.
“I work here. Are you happy to see me?” Edison smiled as he exclaimed, waiting for Gillian to say something.
“You work here? Wait, you even work?” Gillian asked in a surprise and sarcastic voice. “I thought you only raced and ate. All you do is go around and flirt.”
“Nah, my dad forced me to work. But then, look on the bright side; I can be close to you now. I dun lose anything, and I can work next to a beautiful lady like you.” Edison exclaimed.
“Oh save it, your flirting won't work on me. It only works on those idiot girls.” Gillian whispered.
“Hey, let me help you.” Edison suggested. As he tried to take Gillian's cart to help her lighten her load. Gillian quickly rejected. “No thank you waiter boy. You better get back to your work before you find yourself in search of a new job.”
“Eh? You care for me now, huh? You love my good looks don't deny it! I know, a lot of girls like my style too.” Edison exclaimed and tried to model himself to Gillian, to show how cute he was. “Psshhh, puh-ly, you making yourself look like a fool again waiter boy. For me, it's better for you not to talk about how cute and nice you may be. Do you realize when you talk like that, it makes people hate you more with each word. Please, look at yourself before you boast.” Gillian mocked as she turned and walked away, not giving Edison a chance for a rebuttal.
The next day, Gillian went to work, and as she entered the locker room, she heard some ladies talking about their new boss coming in today.
“Hey, have you heard the rumors? They said we are getting a new boss. And he is in our hotel right now.” One lady said as she opened her locker.
“Yeah, I heard that he's young, and attractive too. I wonder if he's mean. I also heard that he's the son of our current boss. I wonder if that is true?” Another lady exclaimed in curiosity.
“Yeah, and if he's the son of boss, I don't think he would be that hard or mean. Since he's young, I think he'll come here just for fun. You know young adults today, so irresponsible.” The manager spoke as she heard others gossip about the new boss.
“You think so too Miss Kwok?” The first lady asked. Miss Kwok was the new manager of the clean up crew. She's pretty, young, and also very talented. She doesn't idolize others, because she thinks that they all suck. She believes in what she can do, and she always tries to get what she wants, whatever the cost. She never depends on men to help her out, so she is always working hard, and doing the best she can. Even though Miss Kwok doesn't seem to care about the people in there, she knows a lot about her coworkers and staff. She knows who has talent and who has talent of the mouth. Gillian really likes her personality, and thinks of her as a model.
“Yeah, these youngsters don't know what is real life is. Always using their parents money, and spending it whenever and on whatever they like. They never realized how hard some people work for money to live off of. But, don't worry, he's just some spoiled boy coming around here to find some interest and change in his life. Once he doesn't like this place anymore, he'll leave. So now get back to your work and stop chit-chatting.” Miss Kwok explained and headed out of the locker room. Gillian heard what she had said but she ignored it, as if she didn't. Later Gillian went through her lists and left to do her jobs and her first room was the messy 314.
“314 again? That stupid dude, I bet his room is dirty like shit.” Gillian thought to herself. As she walked in the room, she saw Edison was looking around.
“Why are you here waiter boy. I thought you are supposed to be down at the restaurant. You better get out of here before that 314 boy comes back. He might blame you for stealing his stuff.” Gillian exclaimed and looked up to Edison, waiting for him to leave so she can do her job properly. "What are you looking at fool? You deaf or something, I asked you to leave already and you are just staring at me like I'm crazy or something."
“314 boy” Edison asked and started laughing out loud. Gillian didn't understand why he was laughing, she just though he had finally lost it, and gone completely mad.
“You tripping? Why are you laughing like you are crazy. Got damn, just get your ass out and let me do my damn job. You're blocking the traffic you know?” Gillian asked and waited impatiently for him to leave. Finally Edison left and went into the restaurant for his lunch. Later, when he got back, he saw that Gillian was getting ready to leave. Edison started following her, and he tried to open up conversation.
“So when did you start working here? Do you like this place? Why aren't you at school? Are you hungry?” Edison asked without stopping. Gillian just kept walking away and tried her best to ignore him. “Are you listening to me?” Edison asked, trying to get Gillian to respond to him, in anyway possible, even if it meant her yelling at him.
“No, I'm not listening to you. And will you shut up. Go and do your job!” Gillian yelled while Edison walked behind her. As they moved down the halls the manager of the pool start walking up to them. “Mr. Chen, I been looking for you. Where have you been?” He asked Edison and later turned to Gillian and said. “Why don't you go and do your job. Why must you be nosy and listen to our conversation.”
“First of all, I am trying to do my job, but it just so happens that he is holding my cart, so I can't go. And second of all, I don't want to listen to your conversation; you started it while I was here. So you better think before you talk.” Gillian mocked with her ever-present attitude, not knowing just whom she was talking to. Gillian didn't know that the man was the manager of the pool. Gillian walk away, without looking back, making him pretty mad.
“I'm gonna fire you.” He tried to yell, but he couldn't because Edison was blocking his mouth.
“Shut your food hole, before I fire you.” Edison said in a very calm and serious tone, giving the man a deadly glare.
“Why not? She's just some maid here, and there's tons of them working anyway, why can't I fire her?” He asked disappointedly.
“Because I said so. And remember she's mine, so you better not touch her, or else, you'll be in hell.” Edison glared once more and left.
