Chapter 13

[Your POV]
Tomorrow is Junghoon's birthday and here I am, cooped up in my room on a lovely Saturday afternoon. Seated in front of my laptop, I have tried, unsuccessfully, to find the perfect magician for Junghoon's party. He likes magicians and ever since Changmin discovered that piece of information, he bought a silly cape and a top hat, dress up as a magician and do magic tricks to make Junghoon laugh.

To be honest, Changmin isn't very good in doing magic tricks. He always mess us everything but despite that, Junghoon will clap his hands and bounce up and down on his seat, shouting for an encore.

I scan the laptop screen while stifling a yawn. I've been surfing the net since I first woke up this morning and so far, I've found nothing. I log into a search engine and type in the words 'Professional Magician'. I close my eyes for a moment and wait for the page to load. When I open them again, I'm utterly surprised at how many results are found. I click on the first one and immediately, a website flashes across the screen.

Amateur. No way. I want the best for Junghoon. I want a professional. I SPECIFICALLY typed the word 'PROFESSIONAL'.

Frustrated, I grab my phone and dial Changmin's number. After a few rings, he picks up and before he can say anything, I interrupt him.

"Max, thank God you answered. Shut up and listen. Come over to my house now and help me prepare for Junghoon's party tomorrow."

"I THOUGHT YOU ALREADY FINISHED THAT A WEEK AGO !" He thunders. I roll my eyes at my phone but says nothing to defend myself. True, the only thing that I was supposed to do was to manage the entertainment while Changmin manages everything else ... But hey, I have a life. I was too busy.

"Calm down. I'm nearly done. I just need you to help me find the perfect magician," I restrain myself from shouting back sarcastic remarks, since he's the only one who can help me now. "Be here by 5 minutes."

"Wait !" He shouts, just before I hang up. "What's Junghoon doing ?"

I heave an exasperated sigh. "Playing in the garden." I look out of my window, which overlooks the garden, and smile. Junghoon is on the swing, his feet swinging in the air as his personal maid happily pushes him up.

"Cool. Alright then, I'll be there in a few minutes."

I nod and flip my phone shut. I place my elbows up on the table and prop my chin on my hands. Staring at Junghoon but not really paying attention, I divert my thoughts to the past month me and Changmin had been pretending to date. I thought that his plan was going to be a disaster but so far, nothing bad had happened. Both our fathers are working with each other well and no fights had been ensued further. Nobody talked about the fight that happened a month ago.

Everyone is happy.

But what about me ? Am I happy to be a part of this lie ?

Surprisingly, I don't mind. Changmin has proven himself to be a prefect boyfriend. We had our ups and downs but otherwise, we're fine.

So what now ?

Junghoon, downstairs, gets up from the swing and starts running around the garden, screaming something inaudible. His maid laughs and proceeds to chase him around the garden. So far, his parents are not revealing themselves and secretly, I'd prefer they don't.

Junghoon treats me like I'm his real mother and I treat him like he's my real son. Besides, his real mother abandoned him. She has absolutely no right to claim that Junghoon is hers.

Somewhere in the house, I hear the front doorbell ring. I glance at Junghoon one last time before scrambling down the stairs. Changmin is already at the foot of the long spiral staircase, his arms folded across his chest as he leans on the wooden railing. I stop a few stairs above him and cough to get his attention. Once he looks up, I rush forward, grab his hand and start pulling him up to my room.

"Here," I push him down to the seat in front of my laptop. "Find a magician."

He stares at me for a full minute. "THAT'S your job, not mine !" Hearing Junghoon's screams from the garden, he cranes his neck and look out of the window. I pull him back down and tell him to focus on what's important.

Again, he whines but fortunately, he averts his gaze to the screen. His hand flies on the keyboard as he begins to type something. Then, after a few second, he turns around and smiles at me, a triumphant look on his face.

"There. Found one."

I read the page and gape at him. "You're fast," I compliment before grabbing my phone and dialling the number stated at the advertisement.

Having an efficient boyfriend can have its advantages sometimes.

[Changmin's POV]
"You know," _____ says, between mouthfuls of pizza. We are now eating lunch in her room, after telling her maid not to cook any. Junghoon is seated on my lap, nibbling on cookies that were brought up by his personal maid. "You're very efficient. What are you ? Like, a computer nerd ?"

I glare at her and continue on with my pizza. She giggles before brushing the cookie crumbs away from Junghoon's mouth.

I look down at Junghoon. "Do you know what tomorrow is ?"

He smiles up at me. "It's my birthday ! I'll be 9 !"

I nod at him before reaching out to take my 3rd piece of pizza.

Downstairs, "_______ ?"

______ jumps up on the sound of her parents' voice. "WE'RE HERE !"

I take a cookie and begin feeding Junghoon with it as Mr and Mrs Park comes into the bedroom. Upon seeing me there, instinctively, they smile. I greet them politely and they walk over to ______'s bed. Both of them sits on it and watches.

I then begin to feel self-conscious, as both adults continue observing us. Finally, Mr Park talks.

"You two have been together for almost a month now ... Don't you think that it's time to take this relationship to a new level ?"

My head jerks up and ______'s head does the same.

"A new level ?" _____ echoes, looking as bewildered as I am.

Mr Park nods. "Yes. As in, engagement. You two, as I have noticed, are very close and you both seem very serious about each other. You even adopted a son !" He gestures at Junghoon, who is happily eating cookies and has absolutely no idea what is happening. I can't believe he's bringing an 8 year old into this. "So. What do you think ?"

I open my mouth to say something but decides against it, in case I say something uncivilised. ______ talks first.

"Appa, we're only 17 ..."

"Plus, we're not THAT serious about each other," I agree. Both of her parents flash me a glare each. I clear my throat loudly and add that I was only joking and I'm very serious about their daughter because I love her very much.

"But really. A marriage sounds good. The Park and the Shim family, united. What could be better ?" Mr Park says gleefully.

I know what's better.

Dying.
