“Leila?” Bosco exclaimed.
“Huh…oh yeah…I like this one.” Leila said pointing to a random ring. Her mind was reeling with a million thoughts.
“I thought so too.” Bosco said picking up the ring. It was made of white gold. Instead of a regular band, the ring had a delicate design that raveled up to the diamond in a elegant baroque style.
“I’ll take this one please.” Bosco said handing the ring and his credit card to the sales lady.
“Are you sure about this?” Leila asked Bosco.
Bosco nodded.
“Well…I guess…congratulations then…” Leila said softly.
“I know you would support me.” Bosco said slapping his hand on Leila’s shoulder.
Leila forced a smile and tried to concentrate on what was going on, however, her mind and heart wouldn’t let her.

“When did that happen?” Myolie exclaimed, when Leila told her about Bosco’s proposal. The two sisters were sitting in the park near the hospital.
“It was just out of the blue.” Leila said as she hopped on a swing and pushed herself.
“Ahh, so that’s why you’re so crestfallen.” Myolie noted as she took a seat on the swing next to her sister.
“What are you talking about?” Leila asked casually.
“Admit it, you like Bosco.” Myolie said matter of factly.
“No, I don’t! I’m just his guardian angel…maybe a little over protective, but that’s it.” Leila denied.
Myolie looked at her sister.
“Okay, okay…maybe a teensy bit.” Leila said. “But then don’t say anything…He and Nancy ARE getting married afterall…” Leila said slowly.
Myolie gave her sister a soft smile and patted her on the shoulder. “You’ll need to start planning ahead too. I mean if Bosco and Nancy gets married…it’s going to make your situation more complicated.”
Leila nodded. “I know…for now I’m just going to let it flow…whatever comes will come…”

“Okay, how does this sound?” Bosco asked. He read what he wrote on the slip of paper to Leila.
“I think every girl in the world would melt and say yes without any hesitation.” Leila told him. She reminded herself to be happy for Bosco and Nancy. It was, afterall her job to make sure his life goes well.
“
“Look…she’s coming…I’ll take my leave.” Leila said. Before Bosco could stop her, she ran off.
Bosco took a deep breath and saw Nancy walking towards him.
“Hey!” Nancy greeted Bosco. She walked up to him and gave him a long hug.
“Remember this place?” Bosco asked.
Nancy nodded. “Our first date…time flies doesn’t it?”
Bosco nodded.
“So what were you going to tell me?” Nancy asked Bosco.
“I-” Bosco began.
“Wait, I have something to tell you too.” Nancy told him. She turned and stared into his warm brown eyes. “I talked to Nurse Yin today. I’m switching departments.”
“Why?” Bosco asked. “I thought you were happy with your department.”
“I’m switching to the ER department.” Nancy told him.
“My department?” Bosco exclaimed. Nancy nodded. “Perfect…” Bosco murmured.
“What?” Nancy exclaimed as she looked at Bosco questioningly. Bosco reached into the inner pocket of his jacket and pulled out the velvet box.
“Will you marry me?” Bosco asked. He then recited the lines he wrote earlier to her and held his breath and waited for her to answer.
Nancy stared at the diamond ring in the velvet box and looked up at Bosco. A grin spread on her face as she nodded.
Relief and happiness spread on Bosco’s face as he slipped the ring on her finger. Nancy grinned happily as Bosco lifted her up and swung her around.
From afar, behind the trees stood Leila, watching the whole scene. Smiling sadly, she turned and walked away.
