Chapter 4

Mindful Reminisce

I woke up much later to find a moist towel resting on my forehead.
I peered at the clock that softly glowed 6:58pm in the darkness of my lonely room.
A massive headache was drilling its way farther into my head.
I was lost in a mind-whirring thought when my brother knocked on the door.
You can easily tell that it was him because his knocks always followed some sort of beat.

"Sis! Time to eat dinner!" yelled Changmin.

"In a bit" I called back, still within the warmness of my sheets.

I stretched my arms down to my leg and scratched at what seemed to be a healing wound.
Surprisingly, a cloth had intertwined itself on my leg.
Feeling a bit frightened as I don't remember what the heck happened, I tried my best and swam into my memory.
Flashbacks of where I went today flooded my mind like a tsunami in the tropics.

With sudden realization, I jolted out of bed, causing the moist towel to fly across the room and land on the opposite side of my window with a splat.
I gasped for air as images of the handsome stranger smacked my vision one after another.
I frantically threw my bed sheets off my legs, grabbed my coat and dashed to the window.
I scanned the outside surrounding like a hawk searching for a mouse.
To my disappointment, I found no signs of the handsome stranger anywhere.

I sighed and plopped back onto the bed and closed my eyes.
I reached over to the wound on my leg and caressed the sash that bound to it.
Curiously, a smile appeared across my face and a fuzzy feeling lit up in my heart.

I got up late for school again. And like usual, I ran like crazy.
I even chose to go the same path as I did yesterday just to maybe bump into the stranger again.
In the end, I made it on time to school with just a few minutes to spare.

So I didn't accidentally meet up with the stranger, so what?
I heaved a sigh and slouched into my seat.
I glanced over at Eunhye who stuck her nose in between her books, like she was desperately studying for something.
Just then, the Mr. Jung came in through the door, and as usual, the girls awed and glued their eyes into his presence.
Today, Mr. Jung sported a golden Rolex watch that clung to his wrist that beamed under the light.
I heard a scoff coming out from Junsu as he played with the soccer ball beneath his desk.

"Books closed. Test time!" yelled Mr. Jung, followed by a chorus of groans.

I clenched my teeth in annoyance and mentally slapped myself for not remembering about the test.
Yesterday night, I was too busy thinking about Hero that I totally forgot to study.
I sighed once more, exhaled, and decided to wing it.

"Here goes nothing" I whispered to myself.

A finger snapped in front me as I turned around to see an annoyed Eunhye staring.

"Were you even listening to me, Cass?" she asked.

"Yeah, yeah, I am" I said.

The truth is, I really wasn't interested in what she was saying.
My thoughts kept steering itself towards the missing Hero that I secretly yearned for and more recently, the test that I probably failed.
My shoulders drooped in disappointment and I made a childish pout.

"So..?" asked Eunhye.

"So what?" I asked back.

"See! You're not even listening to me!" Eunhye whined.

"I'm sorry, Eun. I was just thinking about something." I reassured.

"Like what? Not like you have a boyfriend or something like that!" she said.

My face turned a scarlet red when the words 'boyfriend' echoed my mind.
I let out a slight giggle and I suddenly became victim to Eunhye's questions.
Surely enough, she bombarded me with countless questions, asking from high to low.
I gave in and told her about the guy whom I bumped into the other day and he even became my life saver.
I even told her that he somehow resembled the description of the murderer from the newspaper that she showed me from the day before.

I watched Eunhye's eyes widen as she listened intently on how I described his looks.

"He seems ... well, hot." Eunhye said. "But I doubt he looks half as decent as Yunho" she added, and chuckled.

I spanked her behind playfully as I watched her run away from me.

"Hey! get back here, you loser! take it like a man!" I hollered.

"At least I'm not a daydreamer!" she yelled back.

I choked back gasps of laughter as I chased Eunhye.
She was too fast, I couldn't keep up.
I finally let her go and we walked our separate ways home, my mind still thinking about the handsome stranger.. or Hero.
