It had been two years since he had joined Fahrenheit, now considered the most successful boy band in Taiwan. He couldn't believe the amazing events of the past two years that brought him to the stage at the moment. After the photographers were finished, he was led backstage where he was safe from the screaming fans and annoying flashing cameras.
Immediately, Jiro collapsed onto the couch and let out a loud yawn. "I am exhausted. When are we going back to the hotel?"
"You'll be going back to the hotel in half an hour to pack up. We'll be leaving for our next promotional stop tonight," Their manager said.
"Yay, thirty minutes. That's longer than yesterday's five minutes," Calvin said sarcastically as he leaned into the chair. Being a celebrity wasn't all glamour. Celebrities often worked weird hours and hardly got any sleep at all.
Arron laid down on one of the couches and sighed.
"Where's our next stop?" Chun inquired as he dug through the mini-fridge for something to ease his hunger.
Calvin glanced at their tour schedule and widdened his eyes in surprise as he read the next stop. "Tian Lun."
-
He couldn't believe that he was going back to his hometown after a year of being away, recording Fahrenheit's album and promoting. His last visit to Tian Lun hadn't ended too well, and he had dreaded the next time that he would be coming back. He sat in the back seat of the car, waiting for the two hour ride to Tian Lun to end.
He put the earbuds in and pressed play.
~~~~
"One, two, three, smile!" Arron lazily lifted the left corner of his mouth as the camera flashed in his eyes.
"Arron!" She whined in a cute voice. He grinned at her. Sometimes, he just loved to irritate her to see that adorable annoyed look on her face. "You're supposed to smile. You look like someone forced you to take this picture!"
"Someone did force me to take this picture, Hebe" Arron pointed out. Hebe rolled her eyes and lifted the camera back up.
"Take two! Smile!"
Arron this time, wrapped his arms tighter around Hebe's waist, causing her to slightly choke. The camera went off and captured the moment.
"Arron! I don't like taking pictures with you!" Hebe complained as she checked the outcome of the shot. There was a funny look on Hebe's face because of Arron's random squeeze. Arron, however, had a wide grin on his face. "Okay, can we take a nice picture now? I have to send my grandmother a copy."
"Sure, sure" Arron agreed. Hebe lifted the camera up once again.
"Smile!"
Arron leaned his head onto her shoulder, and as an instinct, Hebe leaned her head against his. The camera flashed.
"Perfect," Hebe commended as she turned the camera off. "You know, you and I are a pretty photogenic couple. I'll print you out some copies for when you leave. I don't want you to forget me, Arron."
Arron chuckled. "Like I would forget my Bebe" He gave her a soft kiss on the neck.
"But Arron," Her tone turned serious. "You're leaving for who knows how long. I don't know when I'll hear from you again."
Arron hushed her. "I'll call you everytime I can. I'll text you whenever I can."
"Promise?" She held up her pinky.
Arron smiled and reached into his pocket. Revealing the silver promise ring to her, he slid it onto her ring finger. "Promise."
-
He stayed faithful to his promise. Whenever he could get his hands on his phone, he texted her. Whenever he could find some time alone, he called her. However, four months after his departure, he found his schedule getting fuller and fuller. Soon, he found that all the spare time he had was to either sleep or eat.
Guilt developed within him every single night when he dragged his feet to his bed and fell to sleep. His mind would be screaming at him to call Hebe, but his body would eventually take over and he'd fall into a deep sleep. He longed to hear her voice.
He finally understood why his bandmates were all single.
After Fahrenheit's debut, the impossible happened when Arron's schedule actually got busier. He didn't even have time to get more than a few hours of rest. But all his exhaustion was cast aside as soon as he got onstage and performed. As soon as he stepped off, he would sleep...completely forgetting to call Hebe.
He remembered one night when he couldn't sleep. He sat up in his bed all night long, staring at the photos that he and Hebe took before he left. And he would cry with the cover of the dark night. He called her that night. She was awake too.
Months later, he found himself returning to his hometown for a concert. He was overly excited when he found himself back in the arms of his girlfriend.
One simple moment, one short kiss. That was all he got after months of separation from her. He lived in constant fear of someone learning about Hebe's position as his girlfriend. He heard about all those crazed fangirls and stories of how brutal they could be. He feared that something horrible would happen to Hebe. As soon as he got to Tian Lun, he met up with her and kissed her. However, they were torn apart because of the upcoming paparazzi.
Arron was walking down the street, the cameras following behind him and Fahrenheit. He kept his phone handy at his side. Hebe was walking on the other side of the street, coming in sync with their steps. No one cared about the girl over there, and he was unbelievably thankful for that.
They arrived at the stadium and the cameras left them alone. Finally, as soon as Hebe got into the room, he crushed her in a tight hug, apologizing for the whole paparazzi thing. She smiled and shook her head.
"No big deal," were her exact words.
~~~~
"No big deal," Hebe smiled at him and shook her head. "Anyways, I can't wait for your concert tonight. I've got front row seats, right?"
"Of course," he gave her a sweet kiss. However, at that moment, Jiro opened the door. Immediately, he looked apologetic.
"Sorry, but we've got rehearsal, Arron..." Jiro said, giving a sympathetic look to Arron and Hebe.
Hebe backed away from him and gave him an encouraging smile. "Go, knock them dead, Arron...for me." He nodded and gave her a peck goodbye. Then he followed Jiro out the door. And he pretended not to see that tear slip down her cheek as he shut the door.
Rehearsal seemed to drag on and on. Arron was anxiously waiting for the end of it so he could go backstage and be with his girlfriend. However, once rehearsal was over, they had an interview to do. It was probably hours later when he reentered the room where he left Hebe.
She was laying sound asleep on the sofa, a magazine resting open on the table. He sighed and walked over to her side. He glanced at the magazine.
"Fahrenheit~Close and Personal"
He rose an eyebrow, why was she reading an interview? He scanned through the page, when suddenly something popped out at him.
"Arron Yan : I'm happily single. I'm dating nobody."
He frowned as he looked at his girlfriend.
She was exceptionally tolerant.
-
"Arron, you seem so deep in thought...it's almost painful" Chun commented. Arron jumped in surprise.
"Oh, sorry. I'm just thinking" Arron answered.
"You're thinking about the summer tour a year ago, aren't you?"
Arron didn't have to answer. Since Fahrenheit formed, he had grown incredibly close to all his groupmates. They practically understood each other like brothers. They spoke to each other about almost everything, from girls to music.
~~~~~
Summer rolled along as well Fahrenheit's summer tour. He was overly excited because Hebe had recieved permission to join them on the tour. That meant more and more time that he would be able to spend with his love. But it also meant more risk.
Arron told himself never to allow Hebe to be exposed as his girlfriend.
Whenever they were outside or in the view of the public, Arron made extra sure that Hebe was as far from him as he could allow. He made sure that no camera person ever cut a single shot of her. Her name was forbidden among the group.
-
"Hebe?" Arron opened the door to his private dressing room and looked inside. As he expected, she was sitting down on the couch, staring at the floor with her arms crossed. He sighed and shut the door. He knew that look all too well. "Hebe's mad at Arron, eh?" He walked over and took a seat next to her.
"It's nothing, Arron."
He sighed and scooted closer to her. He remembered just a few hours before. A fan approached them while they were moving from the hotel to the stadium.
"Who's this?" The fan asked, pointing to Hebe.
"A-"
"Nobody important," Arron cut off Jiro quickly and signed the paper quickly to send the girl off.
Arron sighed as he turned back to his girlfriend. "I'm sorry about that, I didn't want the girl to get any ideas."
"I couldn't even just be a friend to you?" Hebe finally broke out, throwing herself onto the back of the couch. "Apparently, I'm nobody important."
"I'm sorry, Hebe. I don't want you exposed to the public," Arron explained. "I'm really sorry."
"It's not just that, but Arron, I haven't spent any time with you. I thought the point of this was so we could still see each other."
"Then how about tonight? I'll take you out on a date. Okay?"
Hebe smiled and nodded. "Okay."
"Good," He leaned over and gave her a sweet kiss.
-
"Arron, we're here" Jiro shook his shoulders gently, awaking Arron from his reminscence. Arron rubbed his eyes and followed his band members out of the van. The fresh air kissed his face sweetly and gave him a feeling of comfort. He looked around at the town, soaking in the familar scenery. As he began to walk closer towards it, he felt all his high school memories rushing back to him. The bittersweet memories played one by one in his head as he passed by so many locations of his childhood.
"Arron," A flash suddenly brought him back from his reflection time. He looked up to see Jiro reaching down. He put a comforting arm on Arron and pulled him up onto the stage. "We have a press conference," He whispered to Arron. Arron nodded and followed Jiro to the podium. He took the microphone being offered to him.
"Okay, Fahrenheit will now be taking questions."
He smiled and scanned through the crowds. He saw screaming fans, photographers and regular calmer fans among the crowd.
"Arron, how do you feel being back in your hometown?"
He raised the microphone to his lips and spoke. "It feels nice to be back home. Even though I've had fun travelling, there's nothing like the feeling of returning home."
The journalist seemed satisfied with his answer and quickly moved onto the next question. After a round of questions, the press conference was called to an end...but not before Fahrenheit sang them out.
The introduction for "Ji Mo Bao Zou" began. He remembered the first time he heard the song. He remembered frowning, because of the painful memories it brought back. Then he smiled, because it made him think of Hebe.
"The scenery here is called 'once loved'
Once existed your caress and gentleness" He sang his first parts and lowered the microphone to allow his friends to take over. His eyes, for the first time, scanned over the very back.
He could've fell over in shock.
In the very back, her face seemed to stand out in all the others. Her face expressed heartbrokened. He had the urge to run offstage and embrace her warmly.
Jiro nudged him, signalling that his part was coming up. He sang himself in and out, not removing his eyes from Hebe.
He saw a tear slide down her cheek.
The action seemed familar.
~~~~~
"Hebe, order anything that you want. Tonight is your night," Arron grinned like a fool as he and Hebe sat in the very back of the dim-litted diner. She smiled and glanced at the menu.
"You didn't have to do this," She repeated herself, but he shook his head.
"Believe me, I did."
They ordered, and they chatted. Arron didn't realize how much he missed just sitting down and talking to her until the moment at hand. Arron and Hebe were an adorable couple, there was no doubt about that.
After they finished eating, Arron paid the check and they set out for the walk back to the hotel. However, they should've called for a ride.
As soon as they made it down the street, their misfortune led them right in front of the paparazzi.
"Oh, crap" Arron hissed as he distanced himself from Hebe. "Hebe, walk the other way."
"But Arron-"
"Go!" Hebe sighed and turned around and began to walk down the street quickly. Arron stopped the photographers.
"Who was that? Your girlfriend?"
"Heck no. I would never date her."
He glanced behind him and noticed Hebe was still within earshort. She was standing by the lamppost just a few yards down the street. He saw a single glistening tear slide down her cheek before she broke out in a run down the street.
-
He felt a tear beginning to form in the corner of his own eye as he remembered the horrid night. Jiro nudged him again, keeping him from breaking down into tears. The cameras caught everything.
Hebe's eyes lifted from the ground and their eyes locked.
'I'm still in love with you,' they both screamed.
However, an arm extended out and wrapped around Hebe's shoulders. A handsome man, about a few years older then himself, pulled Hebe closely and gave her a soft kiss on the forehead. Then Hebe looked away from Arron and turned around. With that guy's arm wrapped around her, she slowly walked away from him.
"...You never left..." He sang the last notes for the song before he added in his glory notes. With that, the song ended and Arron wasted no time, leaving the stage.
~~~~
"I can't do this anymore! I can't!" Hebe sobbed wildly as she threw her clothes into her bag.
"What do you mean?" Arron said as he removed the clothes from her bag. Tears were already cascading down his cheeks. "You're not leaving me. Hebe," Hebe threw more clothes into the bag, but Arron kept removing them.
"Arron, you're a celebrity. I'm not. You'll never be able to have a normal life. I love you so much, but I can't take this anymore!" She screamed at him. "All the papparazzi. We can't be seen together...there's so many rules! I've put up with them, but last night you just blew it. I can't stay with you anymore!"
"Hebe, no-" Arron grabbed her and pulled her to him in a hug. "You have to stay with me. You can't leave me."
She struggled and tried to push him away. "Stop, stop. You're just making this too hard. Arron, stop!" She broke away from him. "Just let me go," She fell to her knees in uncontrollable sobs. "I can't do this, I can't. Please, let me go."
-
He could kick, he could curse but nothing was going to change the fact that the relationship between him and Hebe wasn't going to work out. He was in love with her, and he knew that she still loved him. However, the pain of the distance, the risk of the papparazzi and the consequences of his life's choices told him that there was no way that they could be together.
The image of that man wrapping his arm around her and giving her that kiss on the forehead...it stuck with him. He couldn't blame her for moving, he could only blame himself.
He was forced to choose between his lifetime dream of being a musician, and his wonderful love Hebe.
"I miss her terribly," He mumbled to himself as he picked up the photo from within the drawer. It was the photo of him and Hebe, before he became famous. He stood up and placed the picture into his back pocket. Then he grabbed the bag of luggage that rested on his bed and left the room. As soon as he got outside and got into the Fahrenheit van, Jiro turned to him.
"Are you okay?"
Arron glanced at his phone and played with the chain. Attached to the chain was a silver promise ring. He sighed and answered Jiro."
"Yeah. Loneliness comes with the fame."
-
"How do you cope when
The one you love is with somebody else
And there's nothing you can do about it
How do you deal with
The fact that you had a chance
But you chose to turn away for your career
I gotta take it through it's heartbreaking
It's something that I had to do
But nobody said that it would hurt so bad
So how do I live
How do I deal without you?"
A/N - Yeah, so that's it. It's supposed to be a sad oneshot, telling people that not everything ends oh-so-happily. What did you think? Was it really completely horrible? Are you mad because I couldn't make Arron and Hebe get back together?
