Chapter 22

The Slap

*Alexander Building, Floor 38 Apartment A, 7:25am*

Raymond glanced at his watch, “Still have five minutes.”

Bosco stumbled out of the bathroom and knocked into Raymond, “Breakfast will be ready soon…” Bosco gave a big loud yawn and headed into the kitchen.

Raymond looked at his watch again, “Two more minutes,” he mumbled to himself.

Raymond put on his coat and walked to the front door, “I’m going Bosco,” he shouted out. He opened the door and at the same time Charmaine had also opened her front door.

“Ron, I’m going to work,” she closed the door behind her and saw Raymond standing in front of his door. “Morning,” she smiled.

Raymond smiled back, “Morning.”

They stood in front of the elevator waiting for it to arrive at their level, Raymond held onto Charmaine’s hand and looked at her, “Sleep well?”

Charmaine shook her head.

“Why not? Is it because you miss me too much?” Raymond joked.

Charmaine laughed, “Yeh right! More like you miss me too much.”

Raymond pulled Charmaine closer to him and put his arm around her shoulder, “I do miss you. By the way about that kiss you were meant to give me yesterday, I still haven’t received it yet.”

“Didn’t Bosco kiss you yet?” Charmaine turned her body so she was facing Raymond.

Raymond had his hands on Charmaine’s shoulder, “He didn’t give me one, so you’re my only hope so my forehead will feel better.”

Charmaine leaned forward and was about to kiss him when she heard the doors to hers and Raymond’s apartment open. She immediately broke her bond with Raymond and slapped him really hard across the face.

“I’m warning you Raymond Lam, if you make me angry one more time your going to get more than a slap,” Charmaine yelled at Raymond.

Raymond had the most confusing look to his face, he had no idea why she did that.

Ron and Bosco who were standing at their apartment doors ran to Charmaine and Raymond.

“What’s going on?” Bosco asked.

“Tell your cousin to stop annoying me,” Charmaine yelled.

“I know you don’t like him but did you really have to slap him?” Ron said stepping in front of Charmaine.

The elevator arrived at the 38th floor, Raymond stepped inside touching the side of his face where Charmaine slapped. Charmaine wanted to follow in but Ron and Bosco pulled her back.

“Maybe you should take the next elevator?” Ron suggested.

“I don’t think that is necessary,” Charmaine walked into the elevator eyeing Raymond.

Bosco and Ron looked at each other and sighed, “Why does she hate him so much?” Bosco asked Ron.

The elevator door closed, “Did I hurt you?” Charmaine held onto Raymond’s arm looking at his face.

Raymond raised an eyebrow, “What was that about?”

“I don’t know… It was an impulse. I just don’t want anyone to know about us at the moment,” Charmaine rubbed Raymond’s cheek gentle to stop the tingling.

“Why not?”

“Because I use to not like you a lot and everyone knew that. Just don’t tell anyone yet, please…” Charmaine gave a sweet and innocent look.

“I don’t know… that slap really hurt,” Raymond said unsurely.

Charmaine leaned forward and kissed Raymond’s cheek softly, “Better?”

Raymond pointed at his forehead, “This hurts too.” Charmaine kissed his forehead, Raymond then pointed to his lips.

“I don’t recall you getting hurt there Raymond Lam,” Charmaine crossed her arms.

“This links straight to the heart where you hurt my feelings.”

Charmaine uncrossed her arms and put them on Raymond’s shoulders, she moved forward and kissed him softly on the lips, “Better now?”

Raymond’s face glowed with joy and hugged her tightly, “much better.”

*Department of Justice, 11:48am*

Jessica sat in her office preparing her conclusion speech for court in the afternoon. Her intercom buzzed.

“Yep?” she said pressing the button.

“Ron wants to see you,” Lulu replied.

“Tell him to come in.”

Ron opened the door and sat down on the chair, “just wanted to ask you if you have to file to case-3584, there are a few points I want to look over.”

Jessica flipped through the pile of files on her table and pulled it out, “here,” handing it over to Ron.

“Thanks,” Ron got up and opened the door about to leave.

“Wait,” Jessica stopped him, “Sit back down I want to ask you something.”

Ron sat back down on the chair forgetting to close the door to her office.

“You and Bosco are good friends right?” Jessica asked.

“Yeh I guess…” Ron answered.

“Do you feel he is being weird these days?”

Ron thought about it, “Nope, why?”

Moses was holding a large pile of papers to give to Jessica, he stops at her door and heard Jessica talking to Ron so being the noisy man he is, he listened in by the door.

“I don’t know, I asked him if he was going out with Myolie once and from then on every time I see him he keeps on explaining to me that he and Myolie are just friends and that he is only nice to her because that’s why friends do,” Jessica continued to say.

“That is weird, but Bosco’s like that,” Ron said.

Moses who was ears dropping by the door, chuckled a little while shaking his head, “she has no clue,” he said to himself and walked back to his office.

It was 5:05pm and Jessica had left her office and walked into the car park seeing Moses leaning on her car with his arms crossed. Jessica didn’t even look at him and opened her car door, “your new hair looks great Moses,” she said while starting her engine.

“I know,” he said touching his hair.

Jessica began to drive off with Moses still leaning on her car. He stumbled a little, “Wait!” he shouted running after her car.

Jessica stopped her car, “Yep?”

Moses was a little out of breath, “I heard you talking to Ron today about Bosco…”

“And…?” Jessica asked.

“And he likes you.”

Jessica’s eyes bludged wide open, “he what?”

Moses stood up right, “yep, he likes you.”

“Are you sure? How can you tell?” Jessica stuttered.

Moses looked at his reflection from Jessica’s car, “Come on… its so obvious. Why would someone constantly tell someone else that there is nothing going on between him and a another female if he didn’t like you.”

Jessica paused and thought about it for a while, “what? He could be just making conversation.”

Moses sighed, “I heard from Ron that he goes to your house and cooks for you guys quite often. Why would some random guy go and cook for someone all the time if they didn’t like that person?”

Jessica paused again trying to find another reason, “I thought he was trying to pursue Bernice, but it turned out he wasn’t.”

“Yet he still cooks for you and the only female left in the house is you…” Moses pointed at her.

Jessica was too overwhelmed by all this information she just received, “But he’s just a kid…”
