Chapter 49

The Big Day

*The Church, 11:30am*

Bosco walked outside to get some fresh air and saw Raymond looking for something, “What are you doing?”

Raymond didn’t answer Bosco but kept searching, Bosco tapped him on the shoulder, “What are you looking for?”

“What?” Raymond leaned closer to Bosco, “What did you say?”

“What are you looking for? Bosco repeated.

“I dropped my hearing aid somewhere,” Raymond kept searching in panic, “I can’t find it and the wedding is starting in half an hour.”

Bosco got down on his hands and knees and looked around. Fifteen minutes had passed and they still hadn’t found Raymond’s hearing aid. Bosco stood up and stopped Raymond from searching, “Ray, retrace your steps until you realised you dropped it.”

Raymond thought about it, “I got out of the car, went to take the photo then I greeted the guests then I went to the bathroom and washed my face. I remember I took my hearing aid out and…” Raymond had suddenly remembered where his hearing aid was his put his hand in his pocket, “put it in my pocket.”

Bosco’s face turned from worried to angry within a spilt second, “You made me get on my knees looking for you hearing aid and you had it in your pocket. Your lucky you’re getting married today otherwise I would of given you a beating.”

Raymond put his hearing aid back in his ear, “I think we better go back inside.”

Raymond ran inside with Bosco to the alter. Ron and Moses were already inside waiting, Raymond stood next to Ron. Both the guys began to sweat with nerves, “I think I’m going to faint,” Ron told Raymond.

“Don’t worry, it’s all good,” Raymond said trying to calm himself down, he felt as if time was passing by extra slow as they waited for the brides to walk it, he kept glancing at his watch which looked as if the time hadn’t moved, “Why aren’t they playing the music yet?”

Charmaine and Bernice were outside waiting for their cue to walk in, “Why hasn’t the song been played yet?” Charmaine kept asking.

“Yeh, they know we’re getting married today right?” Bernice asked quite nervously.

Jessica and Linda who accompanied them sighed, “Ladies, calm down it’s not time yet. Take a deep breath,” Jessica advised.

Charmaine and Bernice took deep breaths as Jessica advised. The wedding music began to play, “Ready?” Jessica asked.

Charmaine and Bernice took a few more deep breaths and nodded. The church doors opened, Jessica and Linda walked in first carrying a bouquet of flowers leading the way. The guest stood up as both brides walked down the aisle. Raymond and Ron watched as Charmaine and Bernice walked down the aisle, the nerves in them calmed down all that is inside them is happiness.

Raymond and Ron stepped forward as the brides reached the alter. Raymond took Charmaine’s hands; he couldn’t stop smiling, “Have I told you how beautiful you look?”

Charmaine smiled shyly, she linked onto Raymond’s arm and faced the front. Bernice linked onto Ron’s arm; sweet smiles were all over their faces as the priest began his words.

“We are gathered here today on this joist occasion to celebrate the bond between these two couples,” the priest turned to Ron and Bernice first, “Do you Ron take Bernice as your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to take care of her in sickness and in health for eternity?”

Ron and Bernice faced each other, “I do.”

The priest continued, “Do you Bernice take Ron as your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to take care of her in sickness and in health for eternity?”

“I do.”

“You may exchanges rings.”

Moses and Linda handed the rings to Ron and Bernice, Ron placed the ring on Bernice’s finger. Bernice then placed her ring on Ron’s finger. The priest now turned to Raymond and Charmaine, “Do you Raymond take Charmaine as your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to take care of her in sickness and in health for eternity?”

Raymond turned and faced Charmaine, he held her hand, “I do.”

“Do you Charmaine take Raymond as your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to take care of her in sickness and in health for eternity?”

Charmaine looked in Raymond’s sparkling eyes, “I do.”

“You may exchange rings.”

Jessica handed Charmaine the ring. Bosco put his hand in his pocket to get the ring for Raymond but it wasn’t there. He searched in his other pocket, “It’s not there,” he whispered to himself.

Raymond turned and gave an impatient look to Bosco, everyone had their eyes on Bosco, he kept searching his pockets. He began sweating with fear and nerves, how can he lose the ring. Jessica looked over at him, “What’s wrong?” she whispered.

Bosco shook his head; he remembered clearly he put the ring in his pants pocket.

“Where is the ring?” Raymond whispered.

Bosco could feel himself about to cry; he suddenly remembered that it must have dropped outside when he was searching for Raymond’s hearing aid. “I’ll be back,” he sprinted outside and saw the ring case lying on the grass; he grabbed the ring and sprinted back inside. He handed Raymond the ring with a cheesy smile on his face.

Raymond glared at Bosco and took the ring off him, he turned back facing Charmaine. His glare turned instantly back to smiles as he placed the ring on Charmaine’s finger. She then placed her ring on his finger.

“I announce these two couples husband and wife, you may now kiss your bride,” the priest announced.

Ron and Raymond both kissed their brides as everyone cheered loudly. Both couples walked out of the church into the grass area, “Brides have to throw their bouquets,” Linda shouted out.

Charmaine and Bernice walked out the front with many other females following behind them. Charmaine and Bernice at the same time threw their bouquets in the air. All the women were scrambling around trying to catch the bouquet. Linda was luckily enough to catch Bernice’s bouquet, Myolie who was just standing around not really interested in the whole process caught the other bouquet unintentionally.

“This is destiny, it’s a sign that Bosco and I will get married,” she thought inside her head.

Kenny who was still in the parked van outside of the church rang Ada in the office, “They’re officially married.”

Ada was very pleased that their marriage had gone smoothly, “Let the fun begin then.”

*Riverside Hotel, 6:03pm*

Jessica, Bosco, Linda and Moses changed out of their formal outfits into more casual yet formal wear for the reception. Raymond and Ron were also inside the dressing room changing into a different suit while Charmaine and Bernice were changing out of the wedding dresses into a formal gown.

Guest began arriving at the reception; the two maids of honours and best men greeted them at the door. Myolie walked through the door and Jessica went straight up to her and gave her a hug, “I saw you at the wedding but didn’t have time to talk. You caught the bouquet, congratulations. Hope you find someone soon.”

Myolie smiled, “I will.”

All the guest arrived and were seated waiting for the two newlyweds to appear. Raymond and Ron finished changing and waited outside for their new wives.

“We’re married,” Ron said to Raymond.

“I know. How weird is that.”

Ron looked at Raymond funny, “How is that weird?”

“Weird as in awesome,” Raymond explained to Ron.

The doors opened and Charmaine and Bernice were changed into their formal gowns. Raymond lifted up his elbow, “Mrs Lam. Shall we?”

Charmaine linked onto his arm and walked to the main reception area. Ron and Bernice followed behind. As they entered everyone stood up clapped their hands cheering the two married couples. The two couples stood up on stage to make a little speech.

Raymond stepped up with Charmaine. He spoke into the microphone, “Friends and family, thank you all for joining me today on the greatest occasion anyone could ask for. I could not explain the happiness I am feeling at the moment marrying Charmaine,” Raymond held onto Charmaine’s hand. “As many of you may know that Charmaine and I didn’t start off on the best note, in fact I really disliked her. I thought she really needed some anger management and didn’t know why she hated me so much. I don’t think anyone knew this but I actually moved into the apartment I live in now because I wanted to annoy her.”

Everyone in the crowed began to laugh, Raymond continued his speech, “I remember that one day I was sick and she took care of me, even though she complained the whole time. From that day onwards I couldn’t stop thinking about her. I actually would like to thank the elevator in our building, it was there where our relationship really blossomed,” Raymond turned around and faced Charmaine, “I just want to say that I will always love you no matter what.”

Charmaine smiled then began her speech, “Well… thank you for attending our wedding. I actually really hated Raymond when I first met him, I thought he was arrogant, rude, annoying and for the first three times I met him he split either water of coffee all over me. Then he moved across from us and was constantly in my face all the time. I was on a case and I used Raymond as a shield so my cover, so some odd reason he kissed me, ever since that kiss I couldn’t stop thinking about him. Then we were stuck in the elevator together which made me see him differently. It was from then on I realised how much I actually like this guy and I always will love this guy until the end of time.”

Everyone clapped at their speeches. Ron and Bernice stepped up, Ron began his speech, “Unlike them two we actually didn’t hate each other. I remembered that I was reading a book about soil near the pool area in our apartment when I saw Bernice rushing next to the pool. She slipped and fell in; automatically I jumped in and saved her. That’s how we…”

Before Ron could finish his speech the room had suddenly darkened. No one had a clue as to what was going on. The guests were all whispering amongst themselves. Bosco, Linda and Kenneth ran up on stage.

“What’s going on?” Charmaine asked.

“I don’t know I think its just a power failure,” Bosco said looked around the room to see if anything suspicious was happening.

“Bosco and Kenneth can you guys just have a look around to see if there’s anything wrong?”

“Yes madam,” Bosco and Kenneth went straight away.

Forty-five minutes passed and there was still no power, it was beginning to heat up inside. Bosco and Kenneth came back, “We checked the whole building, the staff are checking the reason for the power failure.”

Bernice wasn’t too happy about this, “Why today of all times?”

Ron sat Bernice down, “Don’t worry.”

Another ten minutes passed and finally the lights were back on, Bernice jumped up from her seat and the reception was back to normal. Charmaine stood on the stage knowing something was wrong was it a coincident or is there something more to it. Raymond could see that she was worried, he walked up to her, “Hey, its our wedding not allowed to think about work.”

Charmaine smiled and nodded her head, “Ok.”
